Needed a room nearby as I couldn’t get home  and this came up - really lovely friendly pub , great food and service.  Fab room and great location to walk around town. ! Better than expected !!! I wouldn’t hesitate to stay again if in the area - all the food and local beers were excellent.

Better than expected

Exactly what you'd want in a pub with rooms. Great atmosphere in the pub; right in the middle of the city centre, yet with very comfy and quiet bedrooms. Great staff too, with a twenty second check-in. Great job to everyone involved.

A great place to stay in Winchester

Would not stay again. Massively overpriced. Overnight stay for birthday celebrations, website looks really good but not the reality. Not clean. Dirty marks on walls, shower was not clean. Overall experience was not enjoyable. The bar staff were lovely and welcoming, with the exception of the Manager. Did not enjoy my stay and will never go back. 

Big disappointment

Visited the Westgate on a rainy weekend in Winchester, however the rain didn't stop us from having a fabulous stay!! 
The rooms are comfortable and clean and Ben and his team extremely welcoming!
Had a wonderful lunch on the Saturday afternoon and since the weather was wet we decided to stay in the bar and spend a cosy afternoon playing cards and enjoying the bar selection!! It was a lovely atmosphere with other families doing the same and felt very cosy.
Ben and his team were extremely helpful and friendly and made sure we had everything we needed. 
Breakfast was delicious too, a good start to the day before heading out to explore the city! 
Would definitely stay again when visiting Winchester! Thanks Ben and his team for a great stay!! 

Fabulous stay!

Me and my partner had a great time. We only stayed for one night, but we really enjoyed our stay! The room was very clean and the bed was so comfortable. That evening we ate down in the pub and the food was brilliant. Staff were very friendly and helpful too. Great location and all round a great place to stay, especially good for looking at the lovely historical buildings! Will definitely return.

Great, affordable stay!

We booked this hotel fairly last minute and got a good deal. It was 100% worth it. The room was more spacious than we expected with a comfortable bed and modern bathroom. We know winchester well so parking wasnt a problem for us and we decided to not have dinner or breakfast at the hotel as the location means its within walking distance of many restaurants and cafes. The staff were friendly and we didnt have any problems with the room. Its an old building which feels quite uneven underfoot but this didnt bother us and doesnt have modern things like air conditioning. The UK was having a bit of a heatwave when we stayed but the room had a wall mounted fan near the bed which helped. We would stay here again without a doubt. 

Fabulous small hotel in a great location. 

Website looked really good. Experience, however, not good at all. Booking was easy. We were running a little late due to traffic so called ahead to book dinner. We were told this wouldn't be a problem. Parking is a bit of a nuisance, but having parked, checked in, we were told the kitchen had already closed. No food might have been a blessing if breakfast was anything to go by. Probably the worst cooked breakfast I've ever had in a hotel. It was poorly cooked. I didnt realise you could actually ruin toast! This view seems to have been shared by other clients judging by the almost full plates of food that had been left behind. The hotel and rooms were very tired and desperately in need of refurbishment. The hallways and stairways looked like they hadn't seen a vacuum cleaner in weeks. Overall a very poor experience and I would not recommend this place for either food or overnight stay. Sorry.

Hugely Disappointing 

Excellent central location, walking distance to all of Winchester’s attractions. The room and bed were super comfortable. The staff was great, looking after everything I needed. The pub is super cozy, a great spot to rest, read a book and have a drink. Overall a great base for a visit to Winchester. I’ll definitely return. 

Charming, comfortable and cozy Inn

Started badly on arrival when rudely told I could not get any breakfast before 8.30 - I just wanted coffee and apple juice as I had to be away at 7.45. Yes it’s an old building but no excuse for broken blinds, broken toilet chain, broken sink chain - it’s just scruffy

Wont stay here again

We had our wedding at the westgate and it was incredible! We had exclusive use of the pub which meant that we had total run of the pub and could lay it out how we wanted. 

Ben and his team were amazing throughout the whole planning process and I couldn’t thank them more. They were there for any queries I had and were never too busy to chat on the phone or even in person for any concerns I had or advice I needed. 

The staff stayed late the night before our wedding so that we could set up the pub how we wanted. They were so hands on and it meant I could have a relaxed morning with my bridesmaids. 

The wedding itself was flawless. Everything was done, Ben knew what was going on better than I did and any last minute changes were not a problem. 

The food! Oh my goodness. The food was amazing and everyone could not stop talking about it! We had some vet specific dietary needs which the chef accommodated to without any fuss. 

The bar staff were incredible and kept up with a very busy bar and shuffled around the pub without stepping on my very long train on my dress!

The rooms were lovely and breakfast was the perfect remedy in the morning. 

There is not one thing I would have changed!
