They were not serving food as they were very short staffed, so there was no food in the hotel or in here, terrible.  The lady serving drinks was lovely tho and very apologetic for there being no food.

Terrible

I have never had to complain about a place before but this needs to be said, i paid £141.60 just for the room for two nights! A wasted car journey up and back on the same day, its safe to say I didn't stay, i went the 200+ miles back to my home upset and distressed as it was a surprise for my partner for her birthday. The first room was small, dirty and the blind was broken and fell on my partner as she tried to close it, stains on the carpet and cracks down the wall, we were in room 1, Deluxe double bedroom? The heating is on a timer but that doesn't matter in room 1 as the radiator is broken anyway, really helps in winter with single glazing windows. It was horrible these people clearly have no pride in there business. So that's the room looked over.. move to the bathroom, dirty brown toilet water my partner had to flush away, only to reveal the poo stains left in the bowl, good thing neither us needed to go! don't know what you'd catch here. shower has black mould and then there are watermarks run down the walls. So feeling like I've let her down i ring up thinking i was on the phone to the manager.. nope. giving this guy a chance cause he sounded nice and calm i told him all the things that were noted here he said that its meant to be check in a 3pm.. (yeah that's a good start, we got up there at 11am, on the email it just said my booking was 16th 00:00 to the 18th 00:00, i couldn't see the 3pm check in time, i feel like its that late so people feel like they cant find somewhere else)  ...but he could move us to room 2, i accepted as i always give second chances but I know why no ones in it. The carpets ripped and stained, cracks in the walls, paint crumbling, freezing, cobwebs, mould in shower, broken lock on the bathroom door, stains on bathroom blinds, even a bit of mould on the carpet in the corner again broken blind but this one cant fall on anyone as it isn't there just two attachments on the wall where it once was. Also if you have read this and go anyway look in room 2 for a laugh as the radiator has been fixed with blu-tack. Id had enough, i rang again and told them i wanted a refund as i was leaving, I'm not horrible though so i said if i got it back, i wouldn't write a review as this is this guys business and obviously these things are fixable and just need bringing to attention so he can fix them but i wasn't staying. He told me its cheap for the area and point blank refused to give me a refund and said i have to pay for a cancellation fee. Nice. Hide behind a phone so you don't have to deal with anything and bury your head in the sand is clearly the way to deal with a customer. Angry isn't the word i will be escalating this.

Look somewhere else, no breakfast, Cold, dirty, unfriendly management.

Orrest Cottage is in a really great location, close to the train tation, local convenience stores and town centre. We found the price to be very reasonable for a short midweek break and for what we paid it largely met expectations. Very clean and comfortable, kettle, tea and coffee in the room and was very cozy on a chilly November night. The bathroom is shared with the room next door, it was clean and functional. Space is obviously limited in a building of this age as you would expect but it is laid out well. A handwash perhaps in the bathroom and a shelf to put toiletries on when showering would help but all in all a lovely stay at a reasonably priced, clean, comfortable room. Would recommend and would visit again

Enjoyable stay

Our room was modern and quite nice but I have never stayed in a bed and breakfast which doesn’t provide breakfast - this wasn’t overly clear before we stayed so keep this in mind. As far as I’m concerned they shouldn’t have ‘breakfast’ on the sign as this is inaccurate! It is just a bed. 

The bathroom is shared and is very clean but also very small with no products provided (despite us having read different on reviews). 

On a main road but the noise reduces significantly overnight so we had no trouble sleeping despite being in the closest room to the road. However, we also had to go to the door on several occasions as people were banging on the door asking for a room or for help getting their key (there is no reception). 

We had a small mirror in our room when we arrived but have just returned to find this has been taken (presumably by the host) - not very helpful.

We wouldn’t stay here again.

Bed and Breakfast with no breakfast

Comfortable double bed. Small tv..kettle..drinks. Basic and clean. Nice views over the roof tops. Unfortunatley very small shower room with toilet out on the very small landing. No breakfast. Accessed by key in code locked box at front door. No owner on site. Attic room.

Overnight stay

We have chosen the Orrest Cottage as the starting point for our short tour of the Lake District and Yorshire and have not regretted it! Great location in the centre of Windermere, close to supermarkets, pubs and the path to Orrest Head from which you enjoy a wonderful view of Lake Windermere. David's kindness and hospitality, delicious breakfast and honest price are certainly the strengths. Unique, the balcony room is a little warm and the bathroom is really small. But for one or a few nights we can stay!

Good choice

This little bed & breakfast, literally three rooms, is conveniently located, five minutes from the railway station. The rooms are small but comfortable. The bathroom has a shower and a toilet in the room. You could order breakfast the day before on the menu, and you could choose a full English and its varieties, or sardines on a toast. Plus, the hostess made the musli herself. The hosts liked it very much, the nice young couple. They made the cookies that we put on our bed every day in our doll.

It's cozy, clean and comfortable.

If you get to Windermere by train you can hardly make it more convenient than Orrest Cottage has two steps from the station and also very close to the city centre. Our room was comfortable, clean and cool. The only small downside: you don't have to be too big to go into the shower. Judy will give you good advice for walks around the corner and breakfast is plenty. All this for a very affordable price!
