This is a lovely hotel with its own wood where you can spend a couple of hours walking happily. Excellent food at dinner and breakfast. Welcoming staff. Our room was a fair walk from the restaurant so, if you have mobility issues, might be as well to ask for a closer room.



Excellent food, brilliant location

Nice and cosy, friendly staff, food good but overpriced evening meals. Room needed TLC, badly stained lampshade next to bed, bed headboard was badly marked and dirty, shelves in bathroom full of dust and bottom of bath chipped and stained. On paying the bill on leaving nothing identified on what we had had so very hard to check.

Winter break

Vert old and quaint Inn. Comfortable suite, dob bed, bowls and treats provided. Useful Veranda area as well, even though suite is on 1st floor. Staff are truly amazing and the food is top notch (nosh!!!).

I have never left a review for anyone on Trip Advisor before, but I just had to for The Wild Boar. My partner and I stayed here over the weekend for his birthday and our stay here easily took the spot for highlight of the trip. To us it felt as though the Wild Boar had thought of every little detail and touchpoint to make their business special to those that stay here, from the service, the food to the wellies to use in their woodlands, everything was well thought and made our stay feel like a home away from home.

If/when we come back to the Lake District I couldn't imagine staying anywhere else. The food was incredible, breakfast to dinner, the staff are friendly and the surrounding woodland was such a nice addition to start the day with a walk outside. Everything was great, even in the midst of the rainy winter we couldn't fault our stay here. 

First time in the Lake District

We took advantage of the Boxing Day sale and had 2 lovely nights in this fabulous hotel.
Breakfast was included in the offer and was really good with lots of choice.
We had one evening meal and were both impressed by the choice of local produce. Everything was delicious 

2 night break

We were bought an alternative afternoon tea voucher as a present, and decided to use it. We turned up on spec without booking and the pleasant lady behind the bar went to check there were enough scones. 
All was well, and we proceeded to the dining room. The waitress came to take the order was covered in what appeared to be paint. We enquired, and she said she had been doing heavy cleaning. Surely she should have been provided with a change of outfit. 
My wife didn't want the Prosecco on the menu (fixed) and enquired if she could have a still wine instead. She had to go and enquire if this was possible. The explanation was the Prosecco was medium or large, but the still wine would be small. This was OK. 
The food was good, but the service was not good. To be fair to the waitress, she was on her own, and the lady behind the bar was helping as best as she could, but it appeared to be penny pinching by the management. It has put us off returning. 
For what is £35 a pop, this was not good. 

Good food, not good staffing 

My wife and I came on a special offer by the hotel for Bed and Breakfast but we also bought our evening meal.
From the moment we entered the hotel it oozed luxury.
Friendly receptionist.
Pre-dinner drinks - a wide selection and not overly priced.
We had main and dessert courses which were out of this world. Cooked to perfection and well presented. Waiting on staff was helpful and polite.
Breakfast, well I've never had the like. What a selection. The main part was cooked to order and delivered to the table piping hot. Help yourself to cereals, croissants, bread and juices. 
Bedroom - clean and everything we needed.

As the title says - the epitome of luxury 

The Epitome of Luxury 

Pleasant stay, I booked through a company I use and got things included such as a welcome drink etc. room was nice loved the fire and it was comfy and clean. The private woods were nice and we loved seeing the wild deer however the tree house steps were rotten, as were other features they had built in the woods it is winter so maybe they are doing the repairs in summer. We had breakfast in bed included and it was amazing the pastries were the best we have had. They let us check in when the room was ready which was another nice touch. The guy whose delivered the breakfast was friendly.  Hotel decor is nice and very pretty loved the open fires beautiful and warm. 
On a negative we had afternoon tea and for £70 a couple I would say it was nice but over priced …. The alternative afternoon tea is a great idea but the portions were small and not enough savoury I would have thought more meat from the smoke house over fish. The white bait is too strong and it’s the biggest portion you get, the chipolates were lovely but you don’t get many. I would price this more at 25pp or 30 max in honesty. The room was nice but the bathroom was small and as usual a dog friendly room seems to be less superior everywhere we stay even though we upgraded the room. Overall I liked the room though and loved the side door to take the dog out. So overall I was happy enough, I had to ask for my welcome drink and stuff and it would have been nice to have been offered. I also got charged for the dog on check out which I had paid for included in my package so that was a pain and the £1 tree donation charge shouldn’t automatically go on it should be opt in not out. I would stay here again if it was on offer or cheaper but for the one night it is expensive considering what we got. 

Lovely woods and clean hotel 

We have stayed several times and always enjoyed it but had a few issues this time. There needs to be better maintenance in the rooms as there were minor problems such as wardrobe doors not shutting and a broken extractor fan in the bathroom. Our friends had a broken toilet seat and we heard other people complaining about theirs too. 
Most of the staff are lovely but a young waitress completely ignored me when I had been waiting at the unstaffed bar for10 minutes and she walked behind the counter. 
The breakfasts are lovely but one of our party had some issues with her evening meal both nights. She was promised a refund but when checking out nothing had been noted and we had to explain what happened to the lovely receptionist who then had to redo the bill. Although we booked a table for 4 in the restaurant on two occasions we were told a table had only been allocated for 2 , meaning we had to go back into the bar to enable a table to be set. Little things but they leave an impression of poor communication systems.

Lovely setting and grounds

This was our second time here using a Travelzoo voucher offer, great value with breakfast included and a bottle of Prosecco waiting in the room on arrival. 
The room was spacious and warm, bathroom had quality toiletries, toasty towel rail and a bath. 
The bar area is fantastic with a couple of old roaring fires. 
We ate in the restaurant, a very good meal and good service. 
So much choice at breakfast, pastries, home made white choc and cranberry granola, lots of fruit, all this before the cooked breakfast where again there are some unusual dishes offered alongside the traditional English (I tried the cheese rarebit with a duck egg). 
As we were staying here, it’s possible to use the pool at the spa of the sister hotel, the Low Wood Bay near Windermere, after 5.30pm, this was a nice extra treat. 
All the staff at the Wild Boar were very helpful and cheery. 
Hope to return again next year.
