We were a group of cousins with two dogs. The house was ideally situated for restaurants and pubs and walks. The owner was very helpful and responsive to any queries. We all thought it needed new sofas and please get rid of the animal heads !! The bar was great fun with 3 fridges and supplied with cocktail shakers etc.
 The kitchen was new and well stocked.
Overall I would recommend a stay here. Thank you

Well situated house!

Stayed over for two nights between December 22-23. 
What I love about this hotel = Car park, the friendly and helpful staff, its location.
The breakfast is also good (esp. coffee and the fire egg) 
The room is beautifully decorated and we had 1 extra bed with an amazing view!

car park - great location - super friendly staff

Amazing place accommodates everyone including the dogs. We left our chargers and they happily posted them With no request for postage. We are repeat customers the breakfast is 5star. If you haven’t been yet. Make sure you get booked in. But not end of October. That’s when we go. Lol. Staff amazing x

Excellent place to stay

We visit here every year and are just back from another great stay. 

We stayed as a family, the room is very clean, the breakfasts are lovely and the location ideal for exploring the area. 

Andrew and his team do a great job. Shame they couldn’t do anything about all the rain! 

We look forward to returning here again very soon.

Great stay

We stayed here for 3 nights in a family room (room 5). The reviews beforehand looked very good and we were excited for our first stay in Bowness.

The only positive I can think of is the location. It’s very close to shops, bars and restaurants. All within easy walking distance and a good selection to choose from. The shower also had a plentiful supply of hot water so another plus point.

Prior to arrival we received an email saying we could not get access to the hotel or room prior to 3pm due to covid cleaning protocols. I had no issue with this and was glad to hear they were taking extra measures. Upon entering the room however it was clear that the room was far from clean. The room had a 4 poster bed but the wooden framework was covered in dust and the bolts in the frame were exposed. Behind the chest of drawers we found a large amount of dust, cobwebs and a pair of someone else’s socks! We also found a mans t-shirt down the side of the single bed in the room obviously left there by a previous guest. It seems obvious that the room had not been cleaned properly in some time.

The rest of the hotel is very dated and in need of an upgrade. We found the beds to be uncomfortable especially the single bed and to be honest the stay was a real dampener on our trip. We hadn’t expected the Ritzs but there is no excuse for the level of uncleanliness we found. Staff at breakfast seemed friendly enough but were so busy and we were never once asked how our stay was or if everything was okay.

Disappointing unclean rooms

The hotel is well placed in Bowness with just a short walk to the centre where the bars and restaurants are located. There is also free parking tocthe front and rear but nuts tight, as you'd expect for a location like this. Staff are excellent and willing to help out anyway they can. Our room was fairly clean but we slept poorly. Mattress felt solid and I ached when I woke up, but it's not lumpy. This is probably just personal preference. Bar is pleasant with a good selection of bottles beers and wine. Cooked breakfast was fairly small but still very nice, with a decent sausage too! Also a good selection of cereal, fruits and juices. 

Nice hotel for a short stay

This was our second visit to The Lonsdale Hotel having stayed here last September too.
The hotel is ideally situated, close by to the local shops, bars, restaurants and of course the beautiful Lake Windermere.
My husband and I are just back and we loved everything about this little gem.
The staff were attentive and our room was nice, room 9’s view over the lake is outstanding.
The little bar was open this time and it was a very pleasant place to sit and have a glass of wine or three.
Breakfast was very tasty and well presented .
We had a very pleasant break at the Lonsdale and would highly recommend it.

Lovely place to stay.

Have just had a 2 night stay here. We had been looking for a twin room and this was the only place we could find at short notice. We had room 7 which comprised of a four poster double and 2 single beds. 
The hotel itself is perfectly situated for Bowness and offers free parking at the rear. We could even park early before check in which was great.
Our room faced onto the main road. I like to sleep with the window open so yes, there was traffic noise but I expected that.
We were checked in by Andrew who was very welcoming.
The en-suite bathroom was lovely, very clean with a lovely shower.
The bedroom itself was disappointing. 
The 4 poster bed was very dark and completely overpowered the room. Added to that the brown panel patterned wall paper and dark furniture just made the room even darker. The ceiling light was above the bed roof so gave no benefit to the room at all. 
There's also a large water damp patch on the ceiling.
The TV in the room needs retuning as there were no bbc channels on its freeview. 
Unfortunately the room just felt a bit dark and dusty... for example the space between the single bed and bedside drawers, the box ontop of the wardrobe, the back of the TV..... all very dusty.
I'm sure the room would have felt different if it hadn't had 2 single beds either side of the 4 poster, but that wouldn't have improved the lighting. It was so dark in there.
Breakfast was a nice cooked breakfast but quality of the toast and coffee was pretty disappointing.
Didn't like all the dried flowers hanging every where as they gather dust. ( that's my personal taste I understand some people like it) 

All in all the room wasn't the highlight of our stay.

On a separate note it might be a benefit for future guests to be advised to pre book at the local restaurants for evening meals as its pretty much impossible to just walk in and get a table.

Dark room

This is the perfect place to stay when visiting the Lake District. It’s a great location, on-site parking, attentive staff who made us feel so welcome & it is also dog friendly. The rooms are well appointed & they have excellent measures put in place to comply with covid guidelines. We felt very safe staying here & would definitely recommend this hotel & will return. Thank you for a great stay!

Fantastic!

This is the second visit with my dog. The location is excellent. The rooms are clean and beautiful. Andrew and his team are so welcoming. Breakfast is lovely and freshly cooked to order. I just wished we'd stayed longer.
