This is not a 4 star hotel.  At best it is 3 star and in need of some maintenance.  The doors are thin and noise from other rooms disturbs you when trying to sleep. There are no hooks in the bathroom to place towels and only a tiny shelf for toiletries.  Our bathroom was small and the toilet was in a thin alcove which would be difficult for larger guests to use. The hot tap was loose and broken and the plug had no chain which made it hard to empty the sink.  When we asked for these to be repaired, we were ignored. Another room our family occupied smelt of sewage in the bathroom. Again when we asked for this to be dealt with, we were ignored.  The road outside can be noisy when the windows are open at night.  Most frustrating, we were a party of five adults and booked through Booking.com, expecting to be charged for 5 guests.  This hotel  charges per room with no concession for single occupancy.  Breakfast is included in the price but again, there us no reduction if only one guest is staying.  This is completely unfair.  Overall, we expected more and were extremely disappointed with the stay

Not good enough for a 4 star hotel

Myself and the wife went here for the Easter weekend, staff were friendly and helpful. Rooms were clean/warm and comfortable with everything in there to make our stay a pleasant experience. Breakfast was also good with a varied choice, food was excellent. A big thank you to all the staff who made our break a pleasant experience.

Pleasant, friendly,welcoming bed and breakfast

Me and the wife had one night here, just to get away from the kids,Lovely guesthouse, very peaceful, 10 minute walk down to the shops.
Room was lovely and clean.
full English breakfast was brilliant.
Staff very friendly and polite.
 Good parking.



Peacefully and clean

I know reviews are subjective but this is based pretty much on fact. 
the breakfast was good, not a huge selection but it was fine and staff pleasant enough.
- Reception was very unwelcoming, it was old and messy.
- The room was awful. The bed and sheets were excellent but:
- The toilet seat was broken.
- You had to flush the toilet 2-3 times due to the short flush it gave.
- The tap for the sink did not work properly.
- The pressure in the shower was almost non-existent and the it was barely warm.
- The room was not clean, a lot of dust on the floor and the chair had lost all it's cushioning. 

It was only a short visit so we did not have the time to complain but we were not impressed.  

My take on the hotel is that is says it is 5 stars, which is definitely is not. They seem to have taken over the hotel next door as it has merged into one, this hotel was 3 stars. As we were in the old hotel it seems we may have had a 3 star room, if this is the case then that is very naughty. I have attached photos of the signs as they have not yet replaced the old hotel one.

Based on our experience we will not stay there again and we would not recommend it, sorry.

Disappointing rooms, bathrooms especially non-functioning.

We were very pleased with our 3 night stay at the Woodlands. Jesus the manager checked us in quickly. He gave us lots of advice on where to eat. We had room 2 which was downstairs it was nice and quiet. The bed was really comfy and we had 3 good night's sleep. Breakfast was excellent and served quickly all the staff were pleasant and helpful. The hotel was very clean with a lounge and bar. It was very convenient to go into Bowness or Windermere. There were lots of good restaurants and bars and being near Christmas there was a lovely atmosphere everywhere.  It made my husband's birthday very special and we had gone weather. Hope to return again next March and will be pleased to stay at Woodlands. Thank you Jesus and serving staff Janet and Robert Turtle 

A Gem With Charm 

Well situated almost between Windermere and Bowness.
The room served a purpose but as others say it's a little tied and dated. We were worried about being kept awake by road noise but the traffic calmed down later and it didn't bother us.
Some sockets on the wall opposite the bed would have been good for using the iron and the fan.
Glasses taken up to our room of an evening were still there at the end of our trip!
Bathroom was very small though served it's purpose, shower head fell off when trying to wash my hair with it.
All the staff were very pleasant, whenever we pressed the bell at reception or bar someone turned up straight away. we had to leave early the day we went home, a man let us out and said the kitchen could make us bacon sandwiches to take away, we said no to that but he went and got a couple of bananas and croissants. 

Good location

Really enjoyed our short stay on our way back to Wales from Scotland. We booked a suite (Room 17) Spacious, very  Clean with a  Comfy Bed. Plenty of towels, toiletries, refreshments including biscuits. A nice touch were the chocolates on the bed. Thank you.
Breakfast was excellent, with a good choice, served by Liam who was very efficient & friendly. The dining room was pristine & elegant.
Bonus we had a private patio & parking space.

Smart Boutique Hotel

The building and furniture was a little sad and tired. The staff and food was fantastic! Nothing was too much trouble for the staff and the breakfast was very good, served hot and quickly. There is a very good choice of breakfasts, hot, cold or a combination of both.
Parking off road. The room and hotel was clean and comfortable. Our next visit to Windemere, we will definitely be staying at The Woodlands. 

Clean, Comfortable and Good Value

Not suitable for individuals with mobility issues due to location, no lift (3 floors) no ramps. 
Guest house 25 mins walk away from the centre of Bowness, uphill, but walkable if your fit! 
Room 15 on the top floor nice, but very old and tired. Bathroom was very small and cramped.
 Its a very warm room also, but we had the option to use a fan which was in the wardrobe. 
Hairdryer and towels in the room. 
Staff very attentive, room cleaned after the first night. breakfast menu very good (smoked salmon, eggs as you like them and full English, cereals toast, jams, tea coffee etc.)
Bar shuts at 10.30pm, however didn't use this due to their being lots of bars in Bowness.
I wouldn't class it as a luxury guest house, more cosy due to the room being old and tired. 
I would return if we had a better room for the same price. 
Enjoyable stay one the less. 


Enjoyable stay but could do with an upgrade.

It was a really pleasant stay. Place is out of the way and it’s really cosy. Comfy beds, cute rooms and nice service. Room and bathroom were both clean. The only thing I was missing were lack of shower gel/soap/shampoo in the bathroom which should be basic in hotel room in xxi century. Breakfast was tasty and there was a good Choice. Parking is not big but we managed to find a space.
