I had to drive to Barrow in furness to pick up some items but decided to stay in winderemere overnight instead of driving home , we chose the Archway based on very favourable reviews , we booked online and we were kept well informed regarding checking in and out times plus tips on local places to visit and to eat , which I thought was very nice , on arrival we were greeted by Anita who made us feel so very welcome , we were shown to our room and everything was explained to us regarding the utilities , we were also given two slices of lemon drizzle to go with our cuppas which we thought was very nice indeed . Our room was very clean and the modern shower was hot and powerful , the bed was very comfortable too . Our hosts were super friendly to us and were very attentive while we had a fantastic breakfast the following morning , nothing was too much trouble and I cannot recommend The Archway guest house any more highly , the location is very central to the middle of the town and we were not disturbed by any traffic noise at all , we have stayed in quite a few b&b and hotels in Winderemere and the Archway is up there with the best and we really are looking forward to staying here in the very near future .... *****

Anita and Denis are incredible hosts. We had a lovely time in the house which was equipped well and the rooms were cozy yet modern. The breakfast every morning was delicious. The recommendations the hosts made for places to visit were perfect  as well. They were both always on hand to make suggestions or we loved our conversations with them.

Incredible hosts with a cozy house

We had a lovely stay, Denis and Anita are very accommodating. The guesthouse is a fabulous place to explore from and the lemon cake on arrival was a brilliant touch. The superior room is a great size and home made cookies were provided. An exceptional breakfast is included, we will definitely return!

Great stay

My wife and I spent 3 weeks in England and Scotland in October 2023 and stayed at a variety of places. Some were not great, but The Archway Guesthouse stands out as one that we will remember fondly. Anita was a wonderful welcoming host and the location was perfect. The room was spacious with one of the most comfortable beds I've ever slept in. The bathroom was huge with a wonderful rain type shower head. So much nicer than most European hotels or B&B's. My wife and I are not big breakfast eaters, but there was more than enough choice to satisfy us. 

The central part of Windermere is literally a 2 minute walk from the house. We were able to find parking on College Road right in front of the house and it wasn't the type of street where you have to worry about paying for parking or having your car towed. Anita recommended a couple of great restaurants, one of which was Hooked. This was one of the most pleasant dining experiences I'd ever had when considering the food, personable service and small restaurant atmosphere. And I've dined out at some very nice places in many parts of the world. 

Anita recommended a nice little hike just a few minutes away that took us through some beautiful woods up to a great view of the area. One day we took a cab up to Ambleside (there are also busses that run there frequently for lower cost) and wandered around that area, then took a boat ride back to Browness-on-Windermere where we had a short walk back to the cottage. 

Truly wonderful experience that left us with pleasant memories. A highlight of our 3-week trip, even though we were only there for a couple of days. 

A highlight of our trip to the UK

A wonderful stay - a superbly located traditional B&B. Pre-arrival we had some requests as we were attending a wedding that day and Anita was very accommodating. The room was clean and comfortable and the breakfast cooked by Denis was super tasty. Anita has wonderful tales to tell and they both made us feel at home and very welcome. We'll be recommending The Archway to anyone wanting to stay in the area.

A wonderful stay

We couldn't fault any aspect of our stay at The Archway Guesthouse.  The hosts Anita and Dennis were so welcoming and so friendly. 
The room was clean, and spacious and the bed so comfortable. 
Breakfast was yummy and we will definitely be going back. 
Location is ideal for local shops,pubs,restaurants and bars and Bowness is about a 20 minute walk away.
Highly recommended and we will be returning!

Absolutely fantastic place to stay. 

An absolutely fabulous stay in Windermere with stunning scenery. Our hosts, Anita and Denis were delightful and went out of their way to provide for my wife’s gluten intolerance. The breakfast is outstanding and I would recommend the Caribbean breakfast for anyone willing to try something a little spicier. Anita was also very helpful and made good suggestions for things to see and do in the area. Our room had a fantastic view and was very comfortable. There’s an extensive library of guidebooks to peruse and many board games available if you want to relax inside. Our hosts also very kindly let us bring back takeaway to eat in the dining room. We would not hesitate to stay there again on our next visit to the Lake District.

Fantastic experience

A great Guesthouse, very welcoming. 10/10 breakfast and a nice clean room. The hosts make one feel very at ease and well looked after. Good location and amble parking. A very nice lemon drizzle cake as-well. 

Fantastic

As soon as you walk through the door, you feel welcomed. “Would you like some lemon drizzle cake?” was one of the best greetings I have ever received. Very welcome after a 7 hour trip from Essex. Alongside the great hospitality, they are fully geared up with walk and trip recommendations. The bookshelves are lined with handy guides. The bed is spacious and super comfortable. Lots of lovely places to eat locally. Anita & Denis love what they do, and you feel it.

A very welcoming guesthouse

We loved everything about our 4 night stay in the Archway Guesthouse.  The hosts, Denis and Anita, made us feel really welcome and they were a joy to stay with. The location is ideal, being very close to the shops and restaurants and the rail and bus stations, yet located in a quiet neighbourhood. The room we stayed in (the Windermere) had a very light and spacious bedroom and bathroom, with comfortable beds, tasteful decor and fantastic views over the mountains. The breakfasts were brilliant, everything we tried (including the Caribbean) was top notch. All in all, a fantastic guest house offering great value for money and we can’t recommend it highly enough.
