Had a lovely 3 night stay. Great shower and comfortable bed in a nice cosy room.We were asked to contact the owner if we had any issues but we didn't have any. Good location to walk either way to Bowness or Windermere for shops and eateries.

Great Find

Booked a double room which sadly didn't match the overall look and feel of Hilton House. The room on first sight looked impressive especially as the bed was a four poster.
On closer inspection after being in the room a while after arrival, it was in need of a deep clean. Dusty complimentary chocolates, mildew on the back of the curtains which matched the damp musky smell of the room. Cobwebs in corners and dust/dirt on skirting and corners of the wardrobe. Cloudy mirrors in the bathroom and the main room, not cleaned with a clean cloth.
The mattress cover had holes on each side edge, looked as though it had been burned through with an iron. Can't believe this was deemed as acceptable. The room was cold and felt damp, smelled musky and was over looked by the owners house as well as another guest room from their French doors.  When those guests sat on the patio, they directly faced our bedroom window!!! Understandably it didn't feel private.
Windermere was great, lovely weather and very pleasant people. The owner not overly friendly, an ambivalent attitude towards us, seemed to have formed a negative opinion even though he was meeting us for the first time. I thought he was rude when upon seeing my husbands car said, "Oh you've gone up in the world." Spoke volumes! Certainly didn't get the impression we were welcome or would be welcomed back, not that we plan on staying there again, I'm sure to the owners relief.

Not what was expected!

Hilton house is located in a fantastic place, right between Windermere & Bowness. The room was lovely and clean, bed was amazingly comfortable and the owner very friendly when checking in and through out our stay. Bathroom has everything you need and shower pressure was amazing. We had our own doors that lead out to a little terrace so coming back too late wasn’t an issue for us. Definitely 5 star place, nice and quiet and just what you need for a break away in the lakes!

Brilliant relaxing stay

This hotel was booked for a 3 night stay to enjoy Windermere and the surrounding area. At the time of booking, few hotels had availability and those that did were much more expensive. I wondered why this was priced at £80 per night and took the risk, despite feeling that there must be a reason.
We only stayed 2 nights of the 3 - we were sorely tempted to check out after the first night. 
The double room was extremely small and the bathroom even more so. Cobwebs and dust were prevalent. The character that the room offers had been destroyed by an awful paint job. Everything shoddily painted in the same grayish emulsion - walls, ceilings, skirting, coving, doors....everything.
A dreadful dank, musty smell greeted us which didn't leave during our stay and was even worse on the bathroom towels.
These really did stink and despite leaving them in the wet shower on morning one and two, the same towels were left by housekeeping throughout. We actually bought two bath towels to avoid using the hotel towels.
The mattress was terribly uncomfortable and offered 2 nights awful sleep.
In summary, the old saying of you get what you pay for rang true. In fact I'd have to say that even at a nightly £80 rate, Hilton House is overpriced. 
A brief effort to explain on checking out early, was met with little concern nor surprise by the owner.
The two upsides of the hotel are it's location which is excellent for walking to both Windermere and Bowness and the free on site parking at the rear.


Largely disappointing...

We’re just back from a beautiful mini break in Windermere. We booked the king suite at Hilton House and it did not disappoint. Martin was brilliant from arrival and was really attentive checking in to ensure we were having a lovely time. The room was beautifully clean, and well kept. We were in perfect walking distance between Windermere (less than 10 mins) and Bowness-On-Windermere (15 mins). Would highly recommend! 

Beautiful guest house in a perfect location 

Stayed here for 4 nights. Saw the owner on arrival (when we paid balance due) but no contact after that. The room contained was big and had a 4 poster bed (the one pictured on the website). However the room was disappointing in several ways. The standard of cleaning leaves a lot to be desired as there were cobwebs in most corners and skirting boards had not be cleaned. The ensuite flooring was clearly not professionally fitted, the shower head was almost impossible to move on the rail and water pressure was variable.The glass shelf, above the basin, was not secure and slopped, hence making it useless. The two antique chairs, in the bedroom, were clearly just for show as both were uncomfortable to sit on. 
If you are arriving after dark, take a torch as the outside lights were never switched on. This could be a really good guest house if some money was spent updating and maintaining it

Nice but needs updating

I was a little concerned after reading the reviews but we found the hotel to be fine. The size of the room was fine, bed comfortable, nice deco, lovely quiet room. The water pressure in the shower was not very powerful but not an issue really. The bathroom door did not shut but again not really an issue. Great location, would stay again.

Lovely 3 night stay

I would not class this hotel a 4 star, room was pretty, but not very clean, bed was terribly squeaky,  lots of dust around, and the biscuits was very small,  bathroom door was a nightmare, and kept sticking, very over priced, no breakfast included.

Windermere break

Made this reservation on booking.com for Hilton House. It was a "pay at property" reservation. Seen an email that they had tried to take the payment for the room a week before our stay this up coming Sunday. After speaking to them and asking what the problem was I had to provide card details and before I had a chance to do this on booking.com they cancelled our booking & re-sold the room! After speaking to the most unhelpful male over the phone who cheerfully told me they have re-sold the room I find their customer service very poor and would not give them any business in future as a frequent lakes visitor!!

Cancelled without me knowing...

A lovely a very clean room, a warm nice welcome, plenty of coffee, tea etc...really comfortable bed, soft towels and a very nice fair trade shampoo (but only one tiny soap for the two of us for the whole stay...yes I'm sure we could have asked for more). Room is quiet small though, the bulb above the shower stopped working the very next day we arrived and the curtains let all the light through (not much if you like a lay in). If you coming back late, get your torch as no light outside. We truly enjoyed our stay, the surrounding and location are just perfect.
