We stayed for one night as we were attending a funeral in Bath last Friday and we wanted a relaxed start to the day.
We arrived around 4pm on Thursday. Martin met us at the door and check-in was smooth and straightforward. We had a stressful journey on the motorways down to Bath and were feeling a bit burned out by the time we arrived.
Waterhouse exudes a feeling of calmness and peace and we knew we had come to the perfect place for us.
Martin was in charge of dinner and asked what time we would like to eat. Dinner starts at 6pm and we decided to go for that so that we could have a relaxed evening and an early night. We had homemade lasagne with salad and little round  rolls of garlic bread with garlic chopped and lightly cooked on top. We had some wine with that and then retired to the library with drinks and coffee and were so relaxed that we sat chatting for ages. We had the library to ourselves and it was so cosy and blissful. We could not have been happier.
Our room was lovely, big with a huge bed, two armchairs , a desk, excellent range of wardrobes and drawers, bedside tables etc. There, also was a fridge with fresh milk and bottled water . The tray with a good choice of teas , coffee, hot chocolate and a jar of mini-marshmallows plus nicely wrapped good quality cookies was welcome and Martin assured us that if we ran out of anything to just ask. There were chocolates on the pillows too. Inside the wardrobes there was a safe, iron and ironing board, hairdryer, small heater and a tall fan was by the window. The temperature was beautifully warm throughout.  The bathroom had a good walk in shower cubicle and full size bath. Breakfast was excellent with proper thick cut butchers' bacon, and any combination of full english  or omelettes or those poached eggs on muffins with smoked salmon or ham with hollandaise sauce whose name I have forgotten. Also cereals, fruit , yoghourt and continental to start with. Sorry I can't remember the name of the really nice man that ran things in the morning but he was incredibly helpful, he showed us the gardens  and explained the new planting plan. He printed maps for our route to the church for the funeral and to the reception and he actually carried our bags to the car and put them in. You could not find better service anywhere. We will certainly return.

So peaceful, instantly relaxing and very attentive service.

We booked for 2 nights stay as a small break away. Unfortunately it was cut short as we were called away, which I was very sad about. The building looked stunning as we entered into the car park. From the moment we walked in the atmosphere was calm and serene. Martin was very attentive throughout and showed us to our room. The little complemetary chocolates, water and wine was a nice surprise. We stayed in a standard double room. Both room and bathroom spacious, and clean. Big plus was the west facing view, despite a large bank in front of the window the sun was streaming in.
Breakfast was delicious. 
The few negatives was that one of the pillowcases was torn, and due to a window not closing properly we had to listen to the whistling when the wind picked up at night. 
The grounds and the conservatory at the back looked a bit sad, but could be because we stayed in winter and out of season. 
Would definitely stay again as it was very peaceful.

Quiet and peaceful

Martin was great host. Check in was seamless.  The Hotel was lovely and clean everything you needed was provided for.  The breakfast was superb lots of choice. 

We would recommend this as a great place to stay outside the hustle and bustle of Bath.

Great place to stay

We booked 2 nights here as a special treat. We were so disappointed.  The room was small, cheaply appointed and paint was flaking off in places. The TV did not work and there were no instructions. The breakfast was also poor quality. For example coffee came out in a cup luke warm served from a percolator. At these prices we would expect a decent quality coffee served in a cafetiere. In truth we would have been just as well off in a low budget chain and saved the extra cost.

Very disappointing

It must be a long time since this hotel has been  visited by an inspector..it is certainly not 5 star...more like 2.
It's very dated and scruffy.inside and out. Our bedroom was clean but had paint peeling ,damp patch,dirty windows ,no milk,no TV remote control,old pillowcases...as I said not 5 * by any standards....most disappointing was the breakfast, I didn't have cooked ,I never do in hotels ,preferring fruit and cold buffet. This was disgraceful...a few pieces of very old fruit , cheap yogurt ,strawberry only! Soggy pastries a few boxes of cereal ....this is the worst breakfast bar I have ever seen...again not 5 star.,..this hotel charged £250 for the one night ,grossly over priced....I would not recommend this hotel ..how on earth it has 5 stars is beyond me ?.

Definitely not 5 star  and grossly overpriced.

We decided to stop over en route to Devon. It is in the most beautiful setting but the actual house is very tired, paint was actually flaking off the walls. Bed linen was very poor quality, tv didn’t work and nor did one of the bedside lamps. Incredibly poor value for money given it was £160 for room only.

We had a great stay for four nights in this lovely hotel.  Only 10 minutes drive from Bath centre (or, for the energetic, a four mile walk into town via Monkton Combe and Two Tunnels).  We were made very welcome and the staff were incredibly helpful.  The website says English is spoken, but to that can be added Spanish when Martin is around ("he's from Barcelona").  We had dinner each evening in the conservatory which looks out onto the garden and has a gorgeous view across the valley to Monkton Combe.  The one snag is the long driveway access from the main road which might necessitate reversing to a passing place. Rooms were spacious and bathroom clean and well stocked (it was a bit tricky getting the shower to the right temperature). Walks along the stream require good walking shoes in muddy weather but were rewarded by the sight of dippers.  Also kingfishers and otters we were told.

Great stay in peaceful countryside near Bath

This was a break for a birthday celebration and we were so fortunate to find this hidden jewel near Bath. The setting is tranquil; an old country home in beautiful surroundings. There is a footpath to take you over a little bridge to the village for a meander. 
However what made our stay so good was the staff. Martin on reception and his team were so friendly, attentive and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble. Ian, the manager, clearly led his team by example and we felt extremely looked after.
I would definitely recommend this boutique hotel if you like the peace of the countryside while only being a few miles outside Bath itself.

A fantastic stay

Beautifully situated guest house with the feeling you’re in the middle of the country but only 10 mins away from central Bath. Martin and the team made us feel very welcome from start to finish and were very attentive throughout. 

It’s not perfect, but great value for money, especially when comparing to the completion. We stayed 2 nights and had breakfast and drinks (chose to have dinner in town) and the service was great. We’d have no hesitation in staying here again.

The service and staff were great but the room wasn't clean there were stain in the toilet and the bathroom floor was dirty ,
I think the property needs a bit care ,it's very dated
