We booked a table for party of six with three dogs to see out the old year on the 31st Dec 23. 

 One of our party was dissatisfied with her main course, quite rightly considering. 
The No1 reacted brilliantly to the complaint, taking both the main course and pudding off the final bill. Myself I ordered the cheese board at the end of the meal, a mountain of cheese arrived as a little further compensation, which went down well. We had a visit  from the Chef to the table to apologize for the main course. Followed by another visit from her when kitchen service had finished to feed ham to the dogs! 

Despite that one dish, the rest of us thoroughly enjoyed the meal. Following the complaint the service to deal with it was exceptional. We will return when visiting Wooler again. 

The day before we also called for drinks and were really pleased with the service we received, the staff set an example others in hospitality could learn from.

How to look after customers. 

We have had lunch here twice now, both times really really incredible food. A really satisfying and interesting range of food available for vegetarians which isn’t always the case and the portions are huge. We’ll definitely be back! One of the few places on a Thursday that we could find to eat lunch in Wooler as well. 

Lovely food, great menu

What a loverly place to stay at very warm welcome from all the staff room was very warm neat and tidy also there are dog friendly rooms and dogs are welcome in the bar ! The food was outstanding generous portions and very tasty breakfast was also very tasty with lots of choices thank you Diane sorry I don’t know all the staffs names but thank you for the warm welcome we will come again

Loverly and welcoming !!

We have just eaten a fantastic meal, called in on off chance for a pint, stayed and ate, lovely food and brilliant service. Sitting now, perfectly relaxed and enjoying another pint of Sharps. Thank you No1. 

Meal

Stayed here en route to Lindisfarne whilst walking St Cuthbert's Way. Immaculate room with a nice large bed for resting weary legs. There was a good supply of tea, hot chocolate etc too. The hotel has clearly been recently refurbished, with intriguing exposed stonework.

Dinner was really excellent and we were still so full the next morning that we could only manage muesli and fruit at breakfast time!

Excellent dinner, enjoyable stay

My husband and I stayed at a cottage in Wooler and ate at Hotel 1 on 2 evenings during our stay. The food was fantastic, my husband is a vegetarian and was most impressed with both his meals. I had fish on both occasions which was gorgeous both times. Staff were very friendly, lovely atmosphere. Highly recommend

Fabulous Bar & Restaurant

Got a family room for three wet cyclists with bikes at short notice. The manager, Emily, could not have been more helpful or pleasant.  Large well decorated room. Small but clean washroom. Food in pub was plentiful, tasty and reasonably priced. Breakfast was a good full English.  A real gem.

A Real Gem

Stopped in for a few drinks and a bite to eat, only a limited menu was available (due to staff shortages) but the food and the service were excellent - this fish and chips, and the "dirty fries" being specifically recommended.   The fittings and decoration are lovely and make it a very comfortable place to eat, kick back and chat.

Very pleasant evening

We didn't actually stay in the hotel, just that my daughter spotted a sign on the window that said there was a Carvery. So, we phoned and booked a table for Sunday (26 June 2022). Well, what can I say, it was the best we've ever had. All the food was locally sourced and perfectly cooked. The veggies were perfect - not mushy like most Carvery's have. Roast potatoes, perfect, mashed potato, perfect and the gravy was perfect. Did I say that everything was perfect. The staff were lovely and helpful, even when we ordered a starter (deep fried Brie with Cranberry Chutney) and were half way through the carvery when it arrived - still we could say we had the 'cheese board' instead of desert. I've read some of the reviews and all I can say is we couldn't fault anything. We will definitely be going there again, even if it's just for a day out.

The best Carvery ever!

Travelling alone on a 4 day walking holiday stopped off at the No 1 . Very friendly ladies behind the bar , great evening meal and drinks . Nice busy atmosphere , locals pub . I hope this venue is a success in the future , recommend .
