Hotel has character but is v tired. Our room (1) was poor. Looks over the service yard so noise and staff chatting in the early hours and a bright light came on each time which work us up through the flimsy curtain. Staff were all very nice and helpful.

Average hotel………nice staff

We have stayed here a few times, Chirk is a favourite destination for us for a short break. Staff were friendly and helpful. Our room semd to have been recently refurbished in fashionable if unexciting grey decor. The bathroom looked particularly smart with black fittings but the shower didn't actually work well and needs a shelf for toiletries. Also my bedside light had a temperamental switch which meant it was stuck on most of the night. Of course last night was particularly warm  and some kind of aircon or fan would have been useful. Having said that Chirk is a great base for visiting local places of interest and The Hand is a very pleasant place to stay. I am sure we will be back

Great place to stay

 The hotel is rather dated and tired but  the main complaint was the road noise and sunlight from 5am .. I realise it's a very old building and probably not possible to replace the windows but there's not really an excuse for not having a blackout blind and noise reducing curtains..the fundamental function of a hotel room is to provide a decent night's sleep this place failed miserably .. I did bring this up at reception but was dismissed with " I'll take that on board," with neither a solution or apology...on further reflection it's always a tad suspicious when you hand your keys in and are not asked if everything was ok ..and having now had the hindsight of reading many reviews that go back years I now realise that this problem has been ongoing with no attempt to remedy it ...it's a shame as the hotel and staff have some good points which are totally spoiled by what I've outlined above ...

Hotel spoiled by lack of sleep

We recently stayed here we found the car parking around the back easy check in lovely room mind your head on the doors though as has kept some of its old features clean and comfortable nice people food is nice there nice little area nice little park over the road and the castle is just up from it

Nice old hotel

Was asked to book somewhere for lunch to meet up with friends travelling down from Manchester . Having been to The Hand the previous week for lunch I again booked without hesitation.  The service,  food, value for money, decor, cleanliness and atmosphere is just excellent .  You won't beat it .

Disappointing.  The hotel decor is  tired, carpets threadbare and holes in chair coverings.  There are functional issues too.  The cold tap on the bath could not be turned off, they tried hard but had to resort to a local plumber.  Bar tender was cheery and he was on duty the next day to serve breakfast.  Making allowances for the fact that this is a coaching inn dating from 1610, some thought is needed to upgrading appearances in the bedrooms.  Some safety issues too.  The last electrical safety check was carried out on November 2016.

Faded grandeur 

Room was OK, breakfast was excellent. Needs updating and a bit pricey considering breakfast was extra,we asked javel to put the heating on but it never happened very cold draughty windows. But staff were very pleasant but a bit miserable

OK for a short stay

Went to the hand for a private function. We pre ordered our meal from a preset choice. The food was delicious. I can only comment on my meal but everyone on my table enjoyed their food too. No complaints. I had Garlic mushrooms starter, salmon main and cheesecake. Generous sized portions and well presented. Vegetables were served separately.  Staff were welcoming and attentive. I would highly recommend The Hand for a private function.

Delicious food

We called in for a meal and sat outside in the garden. All our meals were lovely, really well cooked and presented. There are different areas to sit in , especially in the shade , however all tables covered by large umbrellas which were most welcome.. we had a leisurely few hours sat eating and chatting and didn’t feel rushed to leave. Excellent service from the staff, really friendly . Desserts were lovely . All in all we enjoyed everything about it and looking forward to going again .

Food

One night stay whilst touring Wales. Hotel is old, lots of character but a bit dated in parts. Our room was clean, quiet and everything worked so no complaints. Food was good, both dinner and breakfast, and lots of it! The staff were all very friendly and the service excellent. We enjoyed our stay very much.
