Check in was done over the phone, once inside the room the furniture was a little tired & dusty, one unit the veneer was almost off the top. the mattress was very springy and of poor quality. the onsuite had hairs in the sink and a little bit of pee on the toilet seat. The TV was old & small and kept picking up interference from the mobile phone signal, which made it annoying to watch. Was it worth £60 for the night, no it wasn't especially after we'd been in a premier inn the night before for only £35 and the difference in quality and cleanliness was worlds apart. Luxury double it was most certainly not. Also couldn't work out the 3 lamps situation.

Started with incorrect directions being given (relating to roadworks in the area) cleanliness was very bad - including faeces in the toilet brush! When I rang the number given for assistance (at 6pm) I was told that no-one was available after 5.30 pm and that I'd need to sort the problem myself (this was not possible)! Equipment (like TV remote) clearly hadn't been cleaned in an age! Dirty linens left overnight in the corridor outside the room so a fire hazard too. Breakfast in the restaurant was gloomy and bland. No-one seemed to care whether things were good or not.

Don't go there!!

This place is located off the a303 ideal stop off point heading towards cornwall.
Will be using this place again for my 
Not the person to give a review but this place deserves it.
From the easy Check-in, evening Meal, Breakfast to warm and cleaned rooms through out the checking-out.

Better then expected

Better than what the other reviews say, we arrived Saturday afternoon when we arrived. There was a phone number, which we called and collected our keys from the restaurant next door..
The hallway had a pleasant smell, as did the  room, which was tidy and clean, and plenty of tea and coffee we did run out of milk. I spoke with the owner, who gave me a pint of milk.
The tv is quite small, but everything else was fine. 
Had lovely, freshly cooked breakfast each morning nothing was too much trouble.

Better than we had read 

Very much a mixed bag.  Check in is done by telephone, when you are told which room is yours, the keys are in the doors. The corridor smells horrible but the room itself was clean and the bed very comfortable.  Breakfast is at the restaurant next door who do an excellent evening meal, but breakfast was truly dismal. We arrived 50 mins before the end of breakfast to be told they were closing in 20 mins (& they did lock the door at 10am to make the point).  We had to ask for coffee.  There were cold sausages, bacon & mushrooms (the buffet heaters were not lit). We were offered freshly cooked scrambled eggs, which were very nice and then when we were eating they came back and asked if we wanted beans. As per my initial comment, not a horrendous stay by any means, but I would definitely not recommend staying there as a solo guest as it is a lone building, on a main road on the outskirts of the local villages and the main entrance is left open for anyone to wander in.

A mixed bag

Gave keys back and went to a premiere Inn. Room smelt damp, black mould in bathroom on shower and blinds. Bed felt dirty and I only sat on it to book somewhere else.  NOT a b&b to me, just a house with 6 rooms next to an Indian restaurant  ( nothing wrong with the restaurant) front door open and keys to your door in the door. 
Had we stayed breakfast would have been in the restaurant.  
Felt like Bates motel

AVOID feels like a cross between Bates Motel and a drug dealers den

I was recommended to this bed and breakfast by my fellow biker mate who had stayed there some years previous, on arrival there was a note on the door with a telephone number we called and were told that the front door was unlocked and the keys were in the the rooms. On entering my room it was cold and smelt of damp, there was no shampoo or shower gel, we called the owner to tell him about the heating etc. and he insisted that the heating was on after calling 3 times he come and got it working at 10pm.
The bed was cold and damp one of the pillows smelt of stale sweat we wanted to cancel and asked  for a refund for the further two night and were informed that there are no refunds. Breakfast was a joke the first morning we had two sausages and when we asked for orange juice the following mornings one sausage was taken away, you could count the beans on the plate the eggs could be anything from a bullet to snotty, its a shame that the accommodation is not as good as the restaurant. I could go on but I think you get the message STAY AWAY from this place       

Never Again 

I had stayed here some years ago and found it was ok, so decided to book direct on the Hawk House B&B website when I needed somewhere to stay in the area. I had to pay upfront and there was no confirmation of receipt of my booking and payment.
When we arrived after a long journey on motorbikes we found that there was no heating in the rooms. It took at least 3 requests before this was remedied.
Breakfast on the first day was ok, although there was no marmalade or orange juice available. The second day and third day the breakfasts were decidedly smaller and the eggs were overcooked each day.
The rooms were not serviced during our 3-day stay, and the B&B was generally a bit run down.
To add insult to injury we discovered later that the price of the rooms if we had booked through Booking.com would have been considerably cheaper.
We understand that the B&B was taken over by new management about a year ago.
On the plus side, the restaurant next door (run by the same people) was extremely good!


Hawk House B&B - give it a miss

Checked in via the restaurant, had a room for 2 nights and couldn't fault our stay.
Great price, lovely room with plenty of coffee and tea.
Room was warm enough, this was ideal to visit local attractions and places like Sherborne and Dorchester.
Zaynes Breakfast was nicely cooked and tasty - with a difference.

Would highly recommend!

Great place to stay

These people swindled me out of £120 for a 2 night booking. I booked for 2 nights and then had to change the first night so tried to cancel 8 days in advance to be told that the full fee would be taken. I then said that I would stay on the second night and gave an arrival time. Upon which th
ey cancelled the booking and kept the money. They said I could be charged a no show fee for not turning up.

I hope others see this and avoid booking this place.
