This is my first stay at the Kiva so I can’t question the veracity of some of the previous reviews, but as of April 2019 the interior of this hotel is amazing!  My room had recently been updated and looked and smelled fresh and clean. Each room looks out over a large modern indoor atrium, which during my stay was virtually empty. Possibly the bad weather had grounded a lot of travelers, but I was still surprised to see so few guests.  The young woman who checked me in was very helpful and friendly and filled me in on a little of the history of the Kiva and it’s ongoing comeback.  This place is much more than I expected considering the budget price!

Try it, you’ll like it!

We stayed here one night on or way to Christmas. Yes it’s under construction but was great value. Exterior nearly complete lobby too. It is beautiful inside. The kitchen is almost finished so the breakfast will soon be hot choices. Amy at front desk was wonderful. Anything we needed. She even offered us a light to walk dogs at night. Bed was comfortable room was big with microwave and refrigerator. Room remodel is next. Give them a chance. We will stay again

Nice stay

The bed was super comfortable and the room was clean. It used to be a very high in hotel and has been kept up very well. It's not brand new but for the price it is very nice. We stay 6 to 8 days a month at different hotels. I'd stay here again.

Clean and comfortable beds.

One night was $62.00, I did an online reservation, reserved room with king size bed. Recieved phone call that they did not have a king available, auto-downgraded me. Went to check-in, was given a room on second floor, all rooms only accessable from inside, went  to check room, electronic key did not open door, back down stairs, staff reprogramed key, back upstairs, again key did not work, (they keep same key card (generac) assigned for each room), they ended up changing room to a downstairs room. Not impressed nor satisfied, will not stay here again.

Problematic

What on earth was happening at this hotel?? I don’t know if our experience was typical. It seemed as though the computer system saying what rooms were serviced was down or the majority of the housekeeping staff was on strike or both.

I will start by saying that this hotel looks as though it was once very nice. It has dark wood paneling in the courtyard and one of those glass elevators that was very popular in the early 80s. All of the rooms are laid out looking down onto this big open space. (Maybe there was a pool here once?)

We arrived at 4:30 and did not get into our room until 5 PM. People kept leaving and returning needing to change their rooms. When we were finally assigned a room it had not been cleaned and we, too, had to come back to get another room.

Standing in the lobby I had lots of time to reflect on the sign telling guests not to put trash outside the guest room. In all caps it said, “We are not here to clean up after you.” Not to be pedantic, but I think cleaning up after guests actually is part of what hotel staff is there to do.

The woman on the desk kept running off to handle something. On one of her absences a woman went into a room where they sell snacks and took armfuls of ramen. The host said, “I didn’t know you were here.” And then told the woman she was not supposed to be staying at the hotel any more. The woman said she hadn’t eaten in three days and then left the snacks and left the hotel.

The room itself was a decent budget room with some worn furniture. The tv was nice. I don’t know if the usually put soap and shampoo in the bathroom but there wasn’t any for us. There were two thin stained towels.

Shortly after we got into our room there was a knock on the door. A man was standing there with a plunger. “You called about the toilet?” “Not us.” Then the fire alarm started going off intermittently.

At night I was startled by a large roach the size of a small mouse in the bathroom.

People started talking loudly in the courtyard at 5 AM waking us up. In the morning around check out time we heard shouting. As we left people were standing on the balconies around the courtyard shouting to each other over whatever happened. Someone threw a hat down as we passed. 

As we were pulling out of the parking lot a police car pulled up to the door.
Not recommended.

Mattress was infested with bed bugs.  Management did refund my $ after I told them I was not staying there, however acted like they knew about the situation and it wasn't a big deal. Always get into the habit of checking your mattresses prior to settling in. You'd be suprised how many places are infested.
