I reserved our room a year in advance for Balloon fest and to check out parts of NM to move to.  There is no TV or wifi so my big sis was at first going through withdraws but I was looking forward to some quite.  Yes, the train does come through but it was hours we were awake no big deal.  The wood fairy always had wood in our Kiva each day which I loved burning each morning.  OMG! the breakfast prepared by Spence in the morning was amazing.  Asta,  the mascot standard poodle was a hoot, we invited him into our room whenever he was around.  I love the Adobe look and HV is centrally located to go to Santa Fe and Albuquerque.    My daughter and I will be coming to NM in the future to meet with realtor for my new home and will be looking forward to staying here and having the experience again and sharing it with my daughter.

Adventure at Hacienda Vargas and New Mexico

First ....I will say I'm not a review type of guy but I felt the need to share...I booked a surprise trip for the Balloon Fest to celebrate our 32nd wedding anniversary...after a little on line research I booked Hacienda Vargas (Felipe Suite) for 3 nights...this being our first Bed and Breakfast experience (we always stay in the normal hotel setting) we did not know what to expect...it could not of been any better ...Spence was not only a excellent host but a great cook... we really enjoyed our homemade Breakfast and our morning chat with Spence...Although I didn't have the pleasure of meeting Cynthia...she set up our anniversary dinner at a local restaurant it was excellent... if you are tired of the same old hotel room with the continental breakfast and want to try something different ...I highly recommend a stay at Hacienda Vargas...Thanks to Spence and Cynthia for making us feel "at home" Rob and Shelly

"What a Nice Surprise"

We had a lovely overnight stay at Hacienda Vargas as we were traveling from Albuquerque to Santa Fe. We were greeted by the owner, Spence, and his dog, Asta, when we arrived. Spence gave us a great recommendation for dinner and made us an amazing breakfast the next morning before we departed. The grounds are beautiful and there is a great deal of history in the property - it has been a stagecoach stop, a general store, a volunteer firefighters’ station and more. Our room, The Peña, had a “truth window” in it so you could see the Adobe structure. A claw foot tub, quilts, a library, fireplaces...it’s the real deal.

Historic Getaway

We absolutely loved our three nights at Hacienda Vargas last week.  Upon arriving, Spence showed us around the place and told us about the history.  We had the Kiva room, which was perfect for our family of three.  It was so refreshingly quiet and such a wonderful place to sit outside in the courtyard with a book.  The breakfasts were outstanding and Spence cooks the best hash browns that I have ever eaten.  We also loved Asta, the standard poodle who greeted us in the mornings.  We would most definitely stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone who is visiting Albuquerque or Santa Fe.

Wonderful Three Nights

Pics are accurate--small, cute, colorful.  Tried checked in at 4, but no one there.  When host arrived smelled heavily of booze.  Spent evening out, came back to room late.  Pulled back sheets to find bed loaded with LOTS of dog hair.  Since the sheets were dark blue and the dog hair was white, there is no way it wasn't noticed.  At first the dog hair creeped me out, but then I realized that if there had been no dog hair I would have never known that the bedding had not been changed.  That REALLY creeped me out.  Shower was pretty sketchy--kind of "crusty."  Could not get the dog hair out of my mind so there was no way I was staying for breakfast.  Oh, yeah, and there is an active train track about 50 feet away.
