I think it's ridiculous to spend upwards of $100 or more for place to sleep. That being said I've stayed in some pretty bad rooms. This one is, I'm happy to say very nice inside recently renovated, and very clean. There are no  bugs and filth like some reveiws. Don't let the outside turn you away. I think is a very good value. Staff is nice and I extended my stay an extra night. Makes me sad that people leave petty complaints and bad reviews. It is a simple and cheap motel.

Great!

Basic no-frills motel to spend the night on the way to Big Bend National Park. Spacious clean room, vinyl floor, desk area with convenient power outlets. Amenities included coffee maker, microwave and fridge. Comfortable bed and pillows. Bathroom with missing sink stopper. Shower with good water pressure and plenty of hot water.
Thin walls, you can hear conversations from other rooms - fortunately it quieted down after hours.
Easy parking.
The major negative was the wifi, which was so slow to be essentially unusable.

We reserved a room.  On arrival the attendant said our two small pets would cost extra although this was not mentioned when the reservation was made.  Our pets refused to exit our vehicle when the conditions were revealed.  So we opted not to stay there.  I asked that my credit card be credited  and the man said that my card had not been charged and would not be.  When I got home I checked my card statement and there was a charge for $132.00.   I called the manager and he said he could not refund my money.  He gave me a number to call that no one would ever answer.  Last time at Value Lodge for me.

If you opt not to stay, don't expect a refund from your reservation!

If you're looking for a comfortable room in Alpine at a fairly low price, this hotel certainly provides it. The recently renovated hotel had comfortable beds, a clean bathroom with plenty of room for our toiletries, and the space we needed for all of our gear. We passed a very pleasant evening here, especially after giving up our room in the OYO across the street because it was just so heinous. Value Lodge looked like a palace in comparison. Keep in mind that this is a budget motel, so there are not a lot of amenities—but you're probably heading for Big Bend anyway, so you may not be looking for a fancy place.

If you're a fussy person that likes to spend hundreds per night on lodging stop reading this now. However, if you are a person that needs a room in Alpine without having to sell your children into slavery to afford it, keep reading.
 
The Value Lodge in Alpine, Texas is basic lodging, not a 5-star resort or a chic 'boutique' hotel.  There are no illusions of grandeur at The Value Lodge.  This is the real pookie!

They have AC and heating that works.  They have fridges and microwaves. They have showers and hot water. They have TV's and satellite feed programming... with various Aux inputs for my Roku!.  They have workable WiFi.  They have VERY clean beds and a place to sit down and get something done.  I was pleasantly surprised how clean the linens and mattress were.  I stayed three nights and never saw a bug or any sort of critter inside or out. (I did see the big Saturn and Jupiter conjunction!)

I travel to Alpine a lot and was getting tired of having my posterior perforation dilated by some of the more upscale motels in town.  Ever since the Antelope Lodge changed hands they have gotten too expensive and snooty for my blood.
No doubt, be prepared, this motel is older. I can personally remember staying here for a few days in March of 1986 after having my 'boo-tee' totally kicked while overnight backpacking at Guadalupe Peak. I did see Halley's comet from the highest point in Texas that trip and serious backpacker style points were awarded because it snowed... both nights. My booty was most righteously kicked. Along the way we were forced to eat Brave Sir Robin's minstrel... and there was much rejoicing! Woot!

Not to sound too much like an old geezer, but back in those days this motel had a pool, restaurant on site and ultra cool vintage western latigo furniture in the rooms. (Ah, the good old days!)

These days this motel fills the bill for an 'older guy' that travels to Alpine regularly to handle business, not to drink $15.00 margaritas in the shade, brag about my new Oboz I just got at REI in Austin or to go see those danged aluminum boxes in Marfa. (I wonder if they buried Judd in one of those?  Would be sort of fitting, dontcha think?)

So, if you are picky, and like places that feature hand towels folded into animal shapes and citrus flavored water in the lobby, this ain't your place.  Drive a bit further and stay at the Maverick Inn for twice as much.

But if like me, you just need a place to stay with the aforementioned basic amenities, The Value Lodge is most assuredly your huckleberry!

Things to consider bringing: 
*A single serve pod coffee maker.
*A power strip with a long cord.
*Folding lawn chair
*COVID sanitizing wipes
*Roku or Firestick
*A LED construction light

Furniture looked as though an animal chewed at it, A light with a bulb no lampshade and did not work. The security locks were missing. the tub was so slippery that my husband fell in the shower , broke the toilet tank right next to the tub and the water came out all over him. It was like a cartoon. If it wasn't for his fast action the room would have been flooded. and then they wanted us to pay for the toilet.There is more but all I can say is that I would definitely not stay here ever again.

Everything was old and worn but the  staff at the desk was friendly and the room was clean. I showered in the evening and had very weak pressure and virtually no hot water. Very uncomfortable. Thin walls but felt safe.

You get what you pay for 

Basic no-frills roadside motel.  Affordable option for a stay in Alpine.  Small but clean and comfortable rooms with fridge and microwave. We stayed five nights as a base for touring the Big Bend and Davis Mountain areas.   No in-house breakfast but there's a diner a short walk away where you could buy endless breakfasts with what you save by not staying in the more expensive places.

The room at this motel was definitely lower end but it was clean and had everything we needed including a fridge/microwave.  The owners are very nice but not all that knowledgeable about the area or its attractions.  There is no breakfast but you get what you pay for and we had a good night.

It's not Holiday Inn

It's across the street from the Holiday Inn and costs half the price ($73 vs $150 when I booked), but you get what you pay for. The bed was uncomfortable (though new), the pillows were pancakes (though the sheets were clean), the a/c was loud as hell (though chilly), and the shower was full of mildew.

If you're passing through Alpine, it's fine. If you're staying for a while or otherwise want the amenities of a nicer hotel, stay elsewhere.
