I have stayed at the Antelope with my family before because- especially during the pandemic- it made for a perfect contact-free retreat. This trip I was by myself and I felt comfortable being there. I LOVE that I can park my car right by the front door of my room. The room was clean with a cute fridge and microwave, and the bed was comfy. 

Yes, it is a little rustic but if you prefer authentic historical charm and want to support a local small business, check out the Antelope!

Tiny bed! Toilet was pushed against the wall! 😕 I had to sit sideways! Tiny opening to the shower stall, and by th way, did I mention the PRICKLES!! HAD TO WEAR SHOES TO VISIT THE BATHROOM! 😡

Absolute rip off! 

The host was quite accommodating to a late arrival. I’ve never stayed in a roadside motel before, and while I was leery, I could tell the owner has gone through great links to make it a desirable stay. While the bathroom was nothing special, the air conditioning was on point, and I slept like a rock in bed.

Great value for a short stay.

Online reviews made this place sound cute, clean, and quirky.  Unfortunately, in reality, it was dingy, overpriced, and regrettable. 

Pros:  Hot water and somewhat comfortable bed. 

Cons:    No services or staff after 9pm or before 9am - terrible hours for a traveler. The room smelled of a dirty mop/sour water bucket or maybe mold.  Gross, I didn't want to walk on the floor without shoes.  Burnt out light bulbs, bad TV reception with malfunctioning remote, north facing door doesn't seal letting in cold outside air, and a careless welcome from staff who told me to hurry up if I needed anything since they were locking up and going home for the night.

Overpriced, inadequate, and dirty

This is a refurbished 50's motel. . Very comfortable bed, new heating and air system and very clean. It made me smile when I saw the new appliances with retro design. The shower was pretty good. Loved it!

Super cute!

I'm a fan of unique retro places to stay, but last night was  out of the Twilight Zone. Antelope Lodge was way below what we expected from reviews and photos, but ok, we sucked it up. That is, until the guy next door had some kind of breakdown and started yelling and crying and hitting the wall for quite a while. Not going to confront anyone in that state, so went to see manager. She moved us to an overflow room that was even worse: no hot water, temp was either arctic or unliveable Sahara, no hair dryer, cracks in floor, exposed industrial lighting,etc, etc. The manager was lovely but this was No-tell Motel Hell.  I would have given zero stars if I could.

Do not stay here

I chose Antelope Lodge based on Trip Adviser and a magazine article. We have stayed in many retro motor lodges and have enjoyed every one of them until now. We were totally unprepared for the mess that has been made of Unit 2 (Courtyard Queen) the most expensive unit.  It does open on the central courtyard but so do most of the other 15 or so units. The place desperately needs paint and baseboard repairs. One lamp was out so we replaced the bulb and discovered the wiring was taped together. Whoever combined this into one unit placed the toilet so close to the door and wall, it was almost unusable, not to mention the mold in the shower and the skimpy towels. Many people staying in Alpine are going to the back country and leave fairly early yet no one was around to open up the ice machines until 9:00. Best to give this one a miss.

Antelope Lodge has lots of problems

Let me start by saying I love staying in retro motels and I'm not really very picky. I don't expect modern amenities or for everything to be perfect, but this place is a dump. A room for 2 was over $100 but not worth half that. Other rooms may be different but #17 was awful! Now, I have seen stained concrete floors but not one that was just a concrete floor with stains on it. It looked like they just tore the carpet out and never cleaned the floor. I wondered why the clothes hanging rod was in the room instead of the closet ... until I opened the closet. Some of the crummiest carpentry I have ever seen. The industrial light fixture, the broken window repaired with silicone, the bent blinds. All in all, the Antelope was a real disappointment. For what they charge the owner could afford to keep this place up but, as it is, it's just a run down dump. 

Be forewarned, not chic, just shabby

We wanted a place that would offer us an “experience”! We didn't want the usual, sterile hotel.  We found it here! We met the nicest people while sitting on our porch, or around the fire in the center of the courtyard. 
The room was comfortable and provided everything we needed.  The linens on the queen bed were so soft!!

Fun & Funky

My wife had never been to Alpine and we wanted a quiet and quick getaway and the Antelope Lodge was the perfect choice.  Check-in was smooth and easy even after we requested a different room type (no fault of the hotel). Even with "social distancing" it felt warm and inviting.
The room was a total 50s throwback in the best possible way. Old school pink tiled bathroom and new retro style fridge and microwave. The beds were new and comfortable and the living room couch felt like we were at home. 
One of the best things was that our cottage had a great little covered front porch with 50s style chairs that overlooks a common courtyard with grills and fire pits. 
The owner came over as we sat and chatted for an hour or so which was a highlight of the trip, he was absolutely wonderful and open to talk about what we thought he could do to make his property even better. 
I wish I had asked for the names of everyone who we encountered at the Antelope Lodge so that I could give them the thanks that they deserve but I failed to do unfortunately.
