Stayed here with my small dog on the way north.  The place was very clean, the bed really comfortable, coffee in the room great, and the grounds were very pleasant and whimsical.  Staff were friendly and very helpful, outstanding.  I loved the wide open space and both the sunrise and sunset.

Wonderful stopover!

Employee explained at onset that WIFI very spotty. Booked us in room 31 which was, according to her, the closet to the modem and our best chance of getting any service. Room was clean and bed comfy but gnats and bugs invaded bathroom at night. Appreciated the comment card left by management which I duly noted, suggesting some spraying be done. No ice machine but again staff retrieved some from office. Lots of updates would help but like other small businesses in this town, suspect owners doing their best to just get by. Quiet surroundings and price reasonable for facility.

Clean, Minimalistic but Friendly

Scrupulously clean and well-maintained. Comfortable bed. Staff gave me an excellent dinner recommendation (Antonio's). 5 minute drive to downtown. You might want to ask for a room away from the highway. 

My room was short on power receptacles for today's typical traveler. A pod on the nightstand with a couple of AC and USB ports would be welcome.

Simple, clean, very good value

Clean and quiet. 
This 4/5 review is with the understanding that this is a mom and pop motel that is dated  but clean and quiet are more important to me than new and modern.
It is on the out skirts of town which helps keep it quiet. Fridge and microwave in the room.
Nice grounds. Lovely view of the mountains and a few swings to sit in and enjoy your cup of coffee (in a real coffee cup with Keurig coffee) in the morning.

Downsides
We got there at 9:30pm.  Too late for regular check in. There was an envelop on the lobby door with our information on it. Had our room number and our receipt. Both stated room 35. So we went to room 35 and the key didnt work. The key said room 32. So I cautiously open room 32 hoping no one was in there. It was empty (not the correct type of room, we had asked for a 2 queen and our receipt was for a 2 queen and 32 was a king)
We decided it would be ok and stayed the night in room 32. At midnight when someone else pulled up I was a little nervous if there was any chance they also had room 32 but no one attempted to come in our room.  In the morning when I let the front desk person know about the mix up I got a shrug and told we were charged the same price so no big deal.

Overall I would stay here again, still seems like the best option in this town. 
Price was reasonable.

Clean and quiet

We run a rural resort in the high desert in central NV.  We know the effort it takes to build and keep a place like this. Beautiful grounds. Water feature. Yard grill and seating areas. Clean parking lot. 
  And the room? Well, yes, it is dated. But it's supposed to be.  Want stainless and glass and bronze? Go to Vegas. Want functional, well maintained and rustic? This is it. Doors fit. Windows work. Climate control works. Bed works. Bathroom spotless, and since I'm the cleaner at our place, 
that's something most rooms don't measure up to (we have over 200 consecutive 5 stars for clean).Old-school well-executed. Thanks for not tossing hardware and fixtures because city folk bitch about em.

Rustic, rural, very well done

We loved loved loved staying at the Rim Rock.  We grew up on a ranch in the San Joaquin Valley.  One of our favorite memories is sitting outside, listening to the silence, absorbing the open skies.  The Rim Rock gives you this same experience.  It's not fancy, but then a fancy hotel in Alturas just wouldn't make sense.  It isn't about new or fancy.  It is about fitting the place.  The Rim Rock simply fits Alturas and this part of California.

Like living on your own ranch

10 stars for cleanliness - the property is perfect for walking your dog or sitting and listening to the birds -  it is nice to have such a dog friendly place to stay - the staff is always courteous - we have stayed here many times and were pleased every time - it is reasonably prices for what they offer -

Clean and Quiet

A rare find. A very clean, well appointed room with Kerrigan coffee maker, full size ironing board, quiet heat unit, cable TV, comfortable bed with recliner. Nice heater in bathroom. I will stay here again for sure.

Rim Rock Excellence

I realize there are not a lot of options for lodging in Alturas, but I was surprised by the high ratings for RimRock Motel.The room was clean but VERY dated.  The mattress was horrible and I woke with an extremely sore back.  The bedding was old.  The bathroom water flow was awful - they need newer fixtures.  The heating AC unit was fitful.  I would not recommend this motel.

Not so good

A clean, friendly place close to everything in Alturas.  Right on 395 just north of town.  I would stay there again.  Apparently I can't leave a review unless it's 200 characters so I'll do some filler stuff here.  While in Alturas take a couple of hours and visit the Modoc Wildlife Refuge.  Lot's of migrating waterfowl here.  The self guided drive is very nice with the opportunity for a short hike.
