Pros: None — old two star motel. 
Cons:  This is an old ‘motel’. The rooms open to the parking lot and road with a good size crack around the door jam.  It is very noisy and small. The breakfast is a waste and the juice machine is broken. The cost was ridiculously overpriced at over $100 per night. The website and the desk clerk advertised a pool—which has been filled in with cement at least four months ago!  Save your money and stay at the better looking Super 8 next door if you have to stay in Alturas at all.

Bad choice

We stayed in a pet friendly room and it was in desperate need of a remodel. The room smelt like urine and 2 plug-ins didn't even come close to covering it up. The carpet had huge stains and the carpet was completely torn from wall to wall in the front entry. It was sooo dirty, I didn't go barefoot at any time while in my room.  The dead lock on the front door did not work and once we were locked out and needed maintenance to "re-set" the lock.  There were just too many "misses" with this hotel. I do not recommend.

Cannot recommend

I've stayed at this location many times over the past 20 years or more, but was pleased to see a significant upgrade in the rooms since my last visit 3 years ago. The bed and other furnishings were quite comfortable, and the HVAC was uncommonly quiet, a genuine blessing.

The Trailside Inn will remain my first choice for lodging in Alturas.

Surprising recent updates

We spent one night here, based on prior TA reviews.  At best, this motel is mediocre.  The room is dated, and still has a number of Best Western branded items from however long ago they used to be part of that chain.  The AC unit is extremely loud, yet the TV has its volume capped at 50%, making it impossible to hear the TV without turning off the AC.  The beds were lumpy.

However, the worst part was the front desk.  As I arrived, the clerk was carrying on a conversation with some random person.  Neither of them was wearing a mask, despite the COVID19 pandemic.  As soon as the clerk saw me, she raced back behind the counter, still without a mask.  The other person sat in the lobby, still without a mask, the entire time that I was checking in.  

I don't see any reason to return here if they are actively violating state COVID19 orders.

Dated and dull

This is a nice, kept-up motel. The building is older but looks fine and is clean inside and out. Room was clean and everything worked - A/C, refrigerator, microwave, TV. Beds were comfortable. We will stay there again if we're ever in the area in the future.

Nice place to stay w/friendly staff

It's not the Ritz but the room was clean and they were able to accommodate our overnight stay with our two small dogs pretty last minute! The staff during check in and check out were very friendly. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable. If we are ever needing a room in that area again we would definitely consider them first!

or perhaps Best Western threw then out because Trailside no longer met BW standards?  I do not know.  either way, it has gone downhill.  I have stayed there dozens of times over two decades.  my two big complaints are the front desk staff, and the WiFi.  other than that, it would be a solid 3-star, plain but acceptbale.  the room was very clean and the bathroom was excellent in all regards.  bed and linen were good.  when I checked in, the young man on the front desk was incompetednt.  when I cheked out, the woman was surly, unfrienddly, rude and aggressive.  the WiFi is the worst I have had at any US hotel in over 5 years.  I saty at about 30 bestwesterns every year and their WiFi is uniformlu excellent.  Trailside's current wiFi was as slow as dial-up. next time I'll stay at the Best Wesytern in Lakeview OR 45 minutes north.

Trailside has gone way downhill since it dropped out of the Best Western chain.

This convenient motel has had an excellent refresh and our room (215) was newly remodeled with new fixtures. The pool was refreshing and clean. The 2 beds, doubles which might be a bit narrow for 2 people, were comfortable. There's a microwave & fridge, table & chairs, bedside tables with good light and a TV. The included breakfast was very good and besides the waffles and biscuits & gravy included a heat-&-eat breakfast bagel. The staff was very friendly and attentive. You're located in the middle of a downtown that has seen better days, but you can walk all of Main Street and imagine what once was.

Best motel deal in town.

After 6 hours on the road, what a delight it is to see the lights of the Trailside Inn.  It is a small and very clean motel.  The rooms are clean and comfortable, with breakfast in the morning.  Darlene greeted us and knew that we needed a handicap room, on the first floor.  We have stayed here before and are always greeted like old friends.  
If you're looking for a wonderful small town to visit and stay, Alturst and Trailside Inn in the number one place to be.

Best Hotel in Town

Had a problem on the highway & needed a room for two nights, clerk found us a ground floor room at the last minute that fit the bill.  Room was clean & comfortable, breakfast was good, nice variety. For me it was Ham & Egg bagels, yogurt, fruit, etc. enough to get the day going with my coffee. This used to be a Great Western Motel according to the motel listings on the internet, has a very similar feeling even though it's not a member of that chain anymore. Independently well run.
