I stayed here for a week. Lovely older place. Great porch with bench. I loved sitting outside watching the wind turbines and traffic. Large room, nice grounds, friendly help and owners. Dell, person who checked me in and gave me ideas on things to do, was so kind and helpful. Great area to walk my dog. If I am going through this area again I would stay here.

Fantastic Older Motel

I stayed there August of 1998 (not 2020). I found an old bill, so I'm going down memory lane. It was $33.90 for the night in 1998.
 We arrived around 2am and oops, didn't know that's not the best thing to do - even motel owners have to sleep.
 We got up in morning, walked out on the north side and remember I could've reached out and grabbed some corn. It looks like there are more parking spaces in back now.
 Then off to Wisconsin to see Frank Lloyd Wright architecture and the Dells. We checked into a camp site, saw a horror movie and headed back to a pitch black camp...tried to sleep.
 Next time Marengo, I'll have to stay a bit and find someplace to get coffee.

Throwback

I have stayed at this motel while visiting family in the area several times. The rooms are clean but need to be updated. They only have full-size beds that are very old and need to be replaced badly.  My back is not happy.  I am not sure if I will stay there in the future while visiting the family. I will definitely check to see if updates have been made the next time I’m in town. 

Family event 

I had stayed here on business about ten years ago, and had a very pleasant stay, so I thought this would be a good base for our trip to Amana.

First, the rate was pretty high since they had some sort of reunion occupying nearly all the rooms.  We paid around $75, which is a lot less than Amana, but more than the room was worth.  Second, we got one of the 'basement' rooms at the back of the main building.  I had stayed upstairs before, and these rooms are much worse.

The room was fairly large, and clean-ish, but the carpet needs to be replaced, and the furnishings were old.  Our fridge didn't work, but the owner got a dolly and helped me haul one from another room.  The air conditioner struggled to keep the room dry, but to be fair, the heat index was 113 that day.  The sidewalk outside the rear rooms has disintegrated with age, so we were constantly tracking sand everywhere.  Our bathroom had some nice pink tile, but the floor tile was very worn and needs to be replaced.  They do have a nifty neon sign, but only about half of it was working.

I think if we'd gotten to stay upstairs, or in the separate wing at the back, we would have had a lot nicer room, but at least it was dark and quiet where we were.

Worn and tired

I hesitate to rate this motel as poor, since I had a good night's sleep. I like the location, several miles off I-80 in the cornfields. Ironically, it directly abuts a high speed (55) road and an intersection, so not completely quiet, but not by a freeway. The exterior of the motel makes it immediately evident that not much maintenance has been done in a long time. The interior is similar. This was perhaps built in the 50's. They take dogs for a small $5/pet fee, which is great for me. The wi-fi is barely usable. In my room it hardly reached, but equally importantly it is a very low-speed internet service. Speedtest.net came up with 1.37 MBPS download and 0.27 MBPS upload. Not a speed you can use for work. Everything in my room worked. The carpet and the bed were ancient. Bottom line: It's OK, but based on the internet alone, I'd not return. Too bad because I liked being away from the freeway on my cross-country trip.

Run-down, poorly maintained, acceptable

Whether you are in transit on I-80 or coming to The Amana Colonies for a stay, Sudbury Court is a great place to stay. It's well worth driving a few mile north of I-80 for a quiet and peaceful nights sleep and the beautiful scenery of Amana to walke up to. The rooms are not fancy but are always clean. I've stayed there multiple times over the past decade and have always found the owners/managers very friendly and helpful. This year I found new owners and they are even better. You are treated as returning friends. They went way beyond when I forgot my prescription progressive bifocal glasses in my room. A month later they still had them and took the time to send them to my home and would not take anything as a "Thank You". They deserve your patronage and you will not be disappointed. Tell them "Thank You' again from me.

Hidden Gem

The rooms with king-sized beds are spacious and have a small refrigerator. They are also fairly clean, but need to be updated. The new owners seemed nice. 

We stayed here for five days. The first two days there was no cleaning service. When I asked at the office late afternoon on the second day when they were going to clean my room, the owners said that for longer stays, they only come every third day upon which I said that I would like to have my room cleaned daily. After that they did come daily, but only made the bed and emptied the trash.

I found myself back in Marengo, needing accommodations.
I enjoyed the Sudbury Court Motel so much on my last trip, that I decided to stay again.
They changed ownership while I was there, but it was quick and easy from the guests perspective.
The new owners are very nice. And they will do all they can to make your stay happy, clean, and comfortable.
This has become my "home away from home", and I will definitely stay with them again when my job returns me.
Stay here and enjoy a visit to the nearby Amanas. 

New Owners

I found myself needing emergency accommodations for when I am filling in at the nearby Tanger Outlet Mall.
I was lucky to find this motel, as I didn't want to have to go all the way to Cedar Rapids.
This place is 10 minutes drive from Tanger.
There is a handy convenience store within walking distance.
I slept in the back row. Its nice and quiet.
The owners have been very accommodating to my needs.
The room is very clean, and there is a small fridge in the room. (You have to go to the office to use the microwave).
Its reasonably priced.
The only things I'd change would be to have in room microwaves, and to put bathroom fan on a separate toggle, as its too loud to hear the morning news as I'm getting ready.
Its quaint. And I love the neon sign out front.
