Cosy inn, nicely decorated and in a very convenient location.  We enjoyed the breakfast and the rooms were well-equipped and comfortable.  I believe there is only one room large enough to comfortably fit a family of four, so it would be worth booking early if that is your preference (we ended up booking two doubles instead as that was already reserved).

An enjoyable stay in downtown Anchorage

The mattress was absolutely superb.  Best we've ever slept on.  The decor was  themed per room, and artistically done.  Staff were all absolutely friendly and helpful.  We missed the breakfast provided, but heard great things later.  Support a small local business and call them for a room!

A quiet, charming, convenient respite during a hectic vacation. Wonderful hostess Lorene, breakfast, and service. Comfortable in every respect.

Lorene was very helpful in coordinating our l a te arrival, directing to our room, end welcoming us with a bottle of wine. The umbrellas provided were perfect.

Cozy hotel 
We had a room downstairs. Not much to complain about that: big enough, you can make your own coffee and tea and a private bathroom. It is a bit oldfashionated but okay. Breakfast was good: nice variation of fruits (something that is nog common in Alaska). And also they had options for glutenfree diets.
Only negative was the person above us walking around in the middle of the night. We believed it was the guy preparing breakfast.

Nice small hotel

Our family of seven booked four rooms for just one night at The Copper Whale Inn and wished we could have stayed longer.  We arrived in Anchorage early in the day but were able to conveniently store our bags on site.  Lorene is a terrific communicator and gave us super clear instructions about how to access the storage room.  We were then able to rent bikes from the Trek Bike Rental store right outside and get a 20% discount as guests of the Copper Whale (riding the coastal trail is a must do activity!).
When our rooms were ready after 3pm, we were able to self check-in: all very convenient and efficient.  The rooms were light and airy as well as beautifully appointed.  The breakfast was perfectly balanced as was the location overlooking the water and just a very short walk to the coastal path and downtown restaurants/shopping.
Lorene was just a text message away for any advice and she always answered immediately - which was very useful when we managed to lock our keys in one room on a Saturday night!  
We thoroughly recommend the Copper Whale for your stay in Anchorage.



A little gem

I will be honest, I was a little apprehensive about our stay at this Inn as we have never stayed at an Inn before, but we are so glad we did! This absolutely adorable place offers different theming in each of it's guest rooms. They have one of the best continental breakfasts I have ever had. The property is very clean and it is in an amazing location that is easy to walk wherever you need to be in the area. 

Loved Our Stay

We loved our stay at the Copper Whale.  It  was spacious, inviting and the staff was very responsive.  This is a true bed and breakfast located in the downtown area.  We were able to walk to the museum , stores and restaurants all within minutes of our room.  Breakfast was great and it was the perfect beginning for our week-long tour of Alaska.  Highly reccomend this gem!

Delightful Bed and Breakfast!

I truly enjoyed my stay at The Copper Whale. Lovely room with a beautiful view, it was quiet and restful. In a great location of Anchorage,  easy to get around. With a return flight cancellation it was no issue whatsoever staying an extra night. Hope the next time I come, there isn't a 4 foot snow dump to contend with!!!. Would absolutely return. Relaxing accommodations, welcoming staff

I must share this because I didn’t think I’d like this place, initially. When I was first told that I’d be in an inn, I pictured a seedy motel. I checked some pics, online, and it turned out that this was a house at some point, which made it much more interesting. I have never stayed in a place that wasn’t a hotel, previously, so this was a first for me. It was an intimate setting, and I had the whole place to myself, due to the airline fiascos as of late, for a period. I had the Pilot’s Lounge, which was a room with a bathroom in it (not sure how other rooms are situated). The location is very good because the inn is located where you can easily be picked up for tours booked, just a quick walk from top eateries, quick walk to the supermarket (down L street south) close to all shopping, or if you want a long walk, you’re at the Cook Inlet so you can walk the Tony Knowles Trail southward. Since the inn is located at the west end of town, there are also not many crowds of humans around, so it’s very quiet- and if any guests get loud, the inn supplies you with earplugs- which won’t be necessary, people know to be respectful. You’ll only hear the others in the Inn when they get loud in the living room area, or front door area, but outside of that, you won’t even hear/notice the other guests. The place is well maintained, and they leave you snacks of all kinds should you get hungry. Should you need anything, or have reservations about the place when you first land (as I did), the General Manager will step in and make sure everything is perfect for you – THANK YOU, LORENE!!! 
During peak times, it will cost you at least $50+ a night less than most of the hotel chains – I’ve stayed in 1 up the street, on a previous trip, during peak season, so I know. That leaves more money to party and do more exciting things with that money. To be honest, you’re not losing anything, in terms of any experience, by not staying in a classic hotel, trust me. That made it perfect for me, a solo traveler, and I met others while there, who expressed the same thing. 
Know, Anchorage can get really cold in Winter, when the weather gets close to 0 degrees Fahrenheit, so you’ll have to ask for a space heater to help the room a bit when that happens, which works just fine, bringing the room to around 80 degrees with it. You won’t notice the cold until it gets below 30 degrees anyway. I will definitely stay in this place the next time I come back to Anchorage. I can see this being a great fit for a family to occupy all the rooms or if you come to Anchorage with a bunch of friends and take over the inn’s rooms.  This really fit my personal style and is now going to be my new template for rooms I take, on personal trips, going forward, where available.

The Copper Whale has a homey feel and the staff was friendly.  Each room is a little different and has a lot of character. The location is good and close to shops and downtown. 

The selection of breakfast items is good and the food was fresh.  

I was happy with my choice to stay here instead of a big hotel.
