TL;DR; - Pictures are very deceiving. Not a convenient location to downtown, price is similar to properties downtown but in much worse shape. Do yourself a favor and stay somewhere else.

This place is listed as an inn and I suppose technically it is. However there are rooms that are only a bed and there are sleeping pods, so it is also a bit of a hostel. The reason I mention this is because, even if you book the ‘Superior Room’ the place feels more like a hostel that you paid too much for. During the stay there were people just constantly loitering around the property and in the front desk area. It felt a lot like the whole property was just a community area. Maybe some travelers like that sort of vibe, but I expected a bit more privacy and professionalism.

The reason I booked this in the first place was because Qupqugiaq inn has very good reviews on TripAdvisor, which I usually trust (will be having second thoughts after this). That as well as being locally owned I decided to book this in order to support the local economy even though the location was less convenient to downtown and was not cheaper compared to similar accommodations. For the good part. There was good communication with the staff through text message. I was able to get someone there to give me the key even though it was past their usual hours because my flight landed late. I am sorry to say, that is about all I can say was good about the property.

Now for the bad. Upon entering the property it was obvious that the room had not been cleaned well. Additionally, everywhere you look there was either damage, or very poor quality repair done. The place was very uncomfortable to be in, and I am not a germaphobe or clean freak by any means. Just as a comparison, I have stayed in some rough HoJos (Howard Johnson), Budget Inns, and Best Westerns that were more comfortable and all were a fraction of the price, even factoring location.

The floors were uneven, the trim was peeling from the wall, no vanity space, all of the furniture had some damage, no cable tv, no coffee maker in the room (which is a big deal to some), the door was missing trim, the soap dispenser had missing lid, the shower had mold, the interior door did not even close correctly. All of that I could have overlooked but the worst parts were the Bed (that felt like it had been picked up from a garage sale. One side was so broken down you sank to the bottom and the other you could feel every spring) and the Window ( which was broken at the top and could not be closed so every bit of noise off the highway and people walking around talking rang in as if it was in the room).

I of course paid for the full stay. After the first night I went to the front desk during the posted hours. Then proceeded to wait around because no one was actually at the counter. I thought well I will get some coffee while I wait. However, no coffee was made. Finally, after 30 min or so someone stepped behind the counter. I explained the situation with the window and the bed. The staff person just said ‘okay’ … I said it is not okay, is there anything you can do? They provided no options, so I asked about a refund for the remaining nights (2 more nights @$198 USD each night). However, she said she can cancel the remaining 2 days but cannot issue any refund. So that is it, I either have to continue to be uncomfortable and inconvenienced or take the loss.

I ended up taking the loss and booking at the Highliner last min. If I would have booked this one at the same time it would have been about the same price, right downtown, walking distance from everything, bigger rooms, newly remodeled, modern, and clean. The Highliner was great and will also do a review on it separately

Hotel Price, Hostel Feel, worst of both worlds

Lots of style and arthanging on the wall, definitely a different kind of hotel. It's a really nice experience if you are tired of the same big-chain souless hotels. You may like it or not but you'll be definitely be telling about it to your friends.

Interesting Place out of the ordinary 

Exelent place.Jen was super friendly and helpful proving lots of information on what to do and what to eat while in Anchorage. The guy at the front desk at night was also super nice but I don't remember his name.

All good 

I went in knowing this was the most budgety of the budget hotels in Anchorage. I was not disappointed. I will say that the staff was friendly and accommodating, the bed was comfortable and the room was warm. We did reserve a room with an ensuite bathroom. Most use a shower and bathroom down the hall. There is a community kitchen with a refrigerator, and coffee 24/7.  Bring everything else you might need because they don't provide it. I slept very well.

Clean simple room. I appreciated little details (chocolate and water) All I needed after a long day. Will come back next time im in Anchorage. Nice hotel and very affordable. Good location too. Recommend.

Clean and Nice

I booked through a 3rd party and understood that I would not receive a refund. The next day I called the Inn directly to cancel due to work. I was told that since I'd just booked the day before and the reservation was a month out, that they'd likely be able to give me a full refund. I let the auditor Lucas know that my crew and I would be booking at least monthly and that I would appreciate a full refund, if possible. Our email exchanges were polite and friendly, until the last one. I was given a 50% refund and asked him to pass along a msg to the owner/management saying that the partial refund cost their business much more than they'd just made ($80). His response, and my final response are below. In addition, an employee named Jennifer complained about "people who can't make their own coffee so she has to do it for them" while I was on the phone with her. They may be nice to your face, but they definitely don't think highly of customers.

Poor customer service

Had a great time there. Friendly Staff. Great Hotel and very affordable, You can't find any better at this price range. Its also has a lot of personality and staying there is quite an experience. I Will come back.

Great Experience

The front desk agent was very friendly and helpful helped me book my room seamlessly I chose the sleeping pod though was small was worth every dollar spent as all the prices are thru the roof in summer I would recommend this place not just for the value but for the staff members that made my stay memorable.

Cozy and memorable super clean and super friendly and accommodating staff

Quiet, comfy, polite, even fellow travelers were polite and quiet. Eclectic style. Very unique. Clean room clean common areas. Home like feeling. Buffering while streaming is only static and that wasn't a big deal. Definitely making this my usual spot. Convenient location for market/earing out. Coffee laundromat all in walking distance. Uber was only 2min wait.

My kinda place

The staff here was very friendly, welcoming, and helpful and the overall atmosphere was of the place was really cozy and relaxing. Qupqugiaq is also located in an area of Anchorage where a lot of stores are within walking distance, which is definitely a big perk.
