We could not have enjoyed our weekend to Arch Cape any more than we did at the Shaw's B&B.  This is so much more than a typical B&B with private entrance, kitchen, separate bedroom, living room and 2 baths. We enjoyed the beautiful ocean front view with a lovely garden.  The sand and ocean are just steps away.  The accommodation is comfy and sweet and filled with treasures.  This has a great family history vibe.  We enjoyed talking with the Bob Shaw and learning about the history of the house and of Arch Cape.  After a stormy drive to the coast we were greeted with the fire place prepped for lighting and a lovely bottle of wine.  We had plenty of privacy.  The window seat with the ocean view makes you stop and re-evaluate your hectic life.  We feel grateful for the experience and highly recommend a stay at the Shaw's.

Relaxing get-a-way

Our trips to Oregon are not complete without a visit to Arch Cape, and they are even better when we are able to stay at Shaw’s Bed and Breakfast.  The house is a duplex and the smaller part is rented as a Bed and Breakfast unit.  The rented side is one bedroom unit with two bathrooms, a living room with a fantastic view of the ocean, and a kitchen.  The kitchen has everything in it, including a refrigerator, stove, microwave, toaster and coffee maker.  The best part about being at this bed and breakfast is that you’re right on the ocean with a great view of a rock that appears to resemble Queen Victoria looking up to the sky.  There is a beautiful beach to walk on.  It is one of our favorite places to stay and we can’t wait to return!

Fantastic Bed and Breakfast

If you are looking for a low key, comfortable beach front B&B experience then you want to stay here.  Initially we chose Shaw's because our dogs were welcome also.  But we discovered that Barbara and Jim not only allow dogs, but love dogs as much as we do!  We've stayed here several times a year for several years now, and have never been disappointed with their hospitality.  I really enjoy a fire each evening in the fireplace which they have all ready to strike a match to!  Barbara enjoys making each breakfast special, and I love that her and her husband join us for this meal.  That may not be something everyone appreciates, but it makes us feel like family!  (And if there is ANYTHING you want to know about the area such as history, great eateries, or other sites to see just ask Barbara!!!)

We Feel Like Family!

This was a wonderful experience. Sure, the view was jaw dropping, and the beach is maybe 60 steps out the back door.  The queen vic rock is right out the door and you can watch whales while sipping your morning coffee when they are in season.  A huge set of windows along the back.  And we found the decor to be charming. 

But the hosts were really sweet and attentive.  That was a big differentiator from other places we've stayed.  Having stayed at a few spots with fireplaces, this was the first time I'd ever had the fire prepped for lighting (with kindling, etc).  ten minutes after we arrived, I lit the fire in one spot and it was roaring.  

Wifi was fast and never went down, there were yummy cookies in a tin, fresh local cream for coffee....let's see....she let us borrow two sets of binoculars for our day trip.  There were tons of hats, ponchos, rain coats, etc hanging in the closet.  The kitchen was totally set up to make anything.  It had more choppers, and cuisinarts, etc than our own house.

The decor is charming.  I really wouldn't have changed anything about the decor.  Every chair was comfy, the bed was great.  And the towels were good.

As for the newborn, some of these things might only matter to folks traveling with a young one.  This was an easy place to have our kiddo.  There are tons of counter space for bathing by a sink, there is a front bathroom where we set up our pack n play and we used that as the baby room. It was perfect.  The "changing station" was a huge window seat looking out over the ocean.  Its three feet by three feet, with plenty of room.

I like when a B and B serves you breakfast, and I was happy when the owner told us she would join us.  Barbara did everything she could to help us prepare a pleasant couple days in the area. Her advice was good, and we had a great time. 

I love to see hard working people be rewarded, and I hope you'll give this place a shot.  I can't see how you could be disappointed.  Now we might be biased: The owner must have complimented our baby (who IS really great) about 10 times.  :)  Enjoy your time on the Oregon Coast.  All the best from two (and a half) Texas

More than just a great view, & easy for newborn

The view and accessibility of the ocean are hard to beat.  The Shaws even loaned me their 100lb lab, Max, for a walk on the beach.The curb appeal is lovely and the gardens are very well kept. The deck is perfect for napping and reading.  There were fresh flowers in the dining room and bedroom which was a lovely touch.
  This unit, however, is the other half of a duplex which raises the privacy issue for me. The carpet is in dire need of replacement as is the sofabed. Other than that, it feels like a lovingly kept beach home.
