My family spent two nights over the last weekend here with some mixed results. I really wanted to like this place. We had booked it once last year and due to a family emergency had to cancel (they were very accommodating when that happened) When it was time to book again we contemplated going to one of the newer, more expensive chains but decided to give this place a shot. It looked like a cute local place and we wanted to support it. I wish we hadn't.

The good:
It's very affordable which makes it great for a traveling family. The staff was kind and curious. And, while to property is dated, our room was clean. The breakfast was light but fine for our needs but if you want something more factor that in.

The bad: 
The walls are like paper. I could hear the conversation of the neighbors or the television and footsteps of the people above us. These people weren't being loud to the level of a noise complaint. Just living their lives but we could hear and were kept awake by every detail. We were lucky to come in February when we didn't need to open the window (their is no air conditioning) or it would have just been louder as I could already hear every passing car. 
The beds are not great. I wasn't expecting much but hearing and feeling the springs move under me with every small movement isn't great. This just added to the difficulty sleeping for my family and caused some back pain for me and my wife.
It's dated. Newly decorated and maybe painted but don't let that make you think it has been remodeled. Honestly, other than the walls and bed, this didn't bother me much but I can see how the details a photo doesn't show may make someone feel they have been duped. 
There was a bunch of little stuff. None of these are deal breakers but good to note. For example, the bathroom light is connected to the vanity light so when your kids have to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night it wakes everyone in the room up (if they were managing to sleep in the first place). Or that the mid century bedside lamp in our room was not plugged in and we couldn't find an outlet. Their is Wi-Fi but it isn't posted on your check in registration or in the room what the password is. This wasn't a huge priority for us but I know for some people this would have been an inconvenience. The TV in our room took some figuring out before we could get the cable box talking to the TV. I will concede that may just be user error or the person before us messing with the settings but it was a bit annoying. The parking lot is small and cramped. There is overflow parking but the main one filled up fast and we were not there during peak season. 

Ultimately, for me this came down to sleep. The mid century decorations were cute but at a motel I pay for sleep. And if I total the amount of hours I slept I did not get what I paid for, even at a low rate. Did it ruin my trip to Astoria? No. But I think next time I will try to book with one of the other chains first, even at a higher cost.

Cute Decor Doesn't Help a Person Sleep.

I stayed here a couple nights ago while on a road trip. Reviews were good and it looked like fun. I talked to the office about a week earlier to get information and she was delightful.
I was able to get the room I wanted without a reservation as things are slowing down.
As soon as I opened the door, I was tickled to see what a nice retro room, tastefully done, and clean.
The building is dated but well kept.
Parking fills up but there is overflow next door.
The breakfast they offer doesn't start till 9:00, that was the only negative.
The restaurant next door is open early but I really like to have my coffee and relax a bit early. They do have a fridge and micro.
Next time I will bring my own coffee, and yes, there will be a next time.

They claim they are fun, and they are!

I stayed there many times after new management came in. I had a reservation for Friday that i made on thusday,  Never made mention of the new policy of 48 hours to cancel  So they charged mr for the 2 days  rental  

I drove by both nights and they were full.  I asked for a refund but nothing doing.  never  again.  Holiday Inn is far better choice.  

ok for Astoira but not for me

It was clean for a motel, wasn’t expecting much. Was taken aback by no AC, but I wasn’t staying when it was too hot. I did notice it said no AC but the only airflow was basically the windows being opened. 

Decent for a motel

Don’t stay here.  No AC and it was so very hot. Could not open windows due to noisy people yelling and smoking. Homeless people in parking and sleeping behind the hotel.  Parking is scarce unless you get there very early and don’t leave. Spaces are small.  Room was clean, but very old.  Not retro, just old.

Just don’t!!!!!!

Stayed here on route to Palm Springs. They are trying to give it a mid century modern theme which would be great but everything could use some TLC. The room was relatively clean but the floor had stains and the bed pretty comfy but it’s a big room and should have had a. king sized bed. Also, only 3 pillows and no extra blankets. My biggest beef is the bathroom, it needs some work, the shower is a joke and the water dribbles out. Then there’s what purports to be ‘breakfast’. All they had were stale, crumbly muffins and Quaker oatmeal. I know this is a budget motel but come on, they could do better. Not sure I’d stay here again because then you have to go out and get a real breakfast so what have you saved.

The short version is: Even for a budget hotel, it's not worth it. There are better options nearby for not much more. 

The longer version is: Aside from the fact that the walls are paper-thin and you can hear everything including normal conversation of your neighbors, the night we stayed here another guest was very super drunk and very loud -- yelling, slamming doors, stomping past our room, and generally making it impossible to sleep even with earplugs and music playing, starting around 10pm. I called the after hours number to let someone know, but it wasn't resolved until 3am. We had to get up early, so got about 3 hours of sleep that night. 

When I asked for a refund--and I would have accepted any sort of token that the hotel was sorry, like, say, a discount on a future stay, a gift card for a local business, SOMETHING to acknowledge that it was a really crappy night's stay and they were sorry that they hadn't managed to handle the situation in a more timely way--the manager instead basically said: it's a cheap hotel, so what did I expect? 

So, yeah, I guess it's a cheap hotel; what did I expect? Take your business elsewhere if you want the establishment to take care of any issues in a timely manner, OR treat you like a human. 

(I haven't mentioned anything else, like the "continental breakfast" is packets of oatmeal and water that takes a million years to heat, or the fact that you hear traffic from the freeway all night, or the surfaces of the desks and tables in our room were sticky and gross. Even for a budget hotel, it's not worth it. You will be happy you went elsewhere.)

Totally a scam

My husband and I, with our 9 m/o stayed here for our mini honeymoon/ anniversary trip and it was wonderful. The people are very friendly and sweet, they are helpful, we came in late and they made check in a breeze, sent us a text with room number and code and we were all set to go. Got our stuff and baby set to relax and go to bed. Neighbors were good and best check out system in my opinion. Absolutely love the decor too... very fun.. Definitely staying there again next time we come to town. Thanks for a great time!

Anniversary/honeymoon trip

This place is a DUMP!  Our room smelled really musty and stale. The whole place felt dirty. The pillows on the bed were flat!!! The fan in the room  was filthy, the lock on the window was broken and had a broom handle to keep it closed. The curtains were hanging from the rod. Breakfast starts at 9am so they dont have to provide for people leaving early. It's not much to begin with but good restaurant next door. Limited parking but you can park in the restaurants lot. All publicity photos are deceiving. 

DO NOT STAY HERE!!!

Do not, I repeat do not, stay at this motel!  It is rundown, threadbare, dirty, and shame on me for believing the pictures!  Lesson learned. 

I do not understand how the establishment received such high ratings, traveler beware.
