Best kept secret in Avon / Vail. Clean, convenient location, AMAZING BREAKFAST, and friendly hosts! Whether skiing Vail or Beaver Creek, they fill you up with homemade breakfast for energy to go all day. Just a short walk to Beaver Gondola or the free Vail bus. The hot tub was nice. I hesitated to leave this good review because I don't want them to be full the next time I go, lol.

Wow! I didn’t know what to expect when I booked this bed and breakfast but I was rewarded with the kindest most genuine people around! From the moment I parked I was welcomed by the owner Todd who made me feel instantly at home! His lovely wife Tamera cooked a great breakfast and conversation was even better! You simply won’t find a place in the Vail Valley or Beaver Creek area that is more central, more affordable or more pleasant to stay in. My friend and I had a great time and we will be back! Thanks so very much!

What a scary disaster!!! Typically, I research places and events to which we’re committing, to the nth degree but I didnt for this one night stay and I can’t complain but I can, hopefully, save others the angst that we experienced.

We drove up to the Mein Haus to see a female mannequin in the window. She was not the typical size of a lady but was of Amazon proportions. In this window and the next was a sketch of a hand gun that read, “home protected by wireless high speed device”. Another sketch taped to the window showed a mask and said they were not permitted unless the wearer had a medical reason for wearing one. Another interesting touch was a banner across the front of this establishment that read, “defend…against all enemies”. When I saw that, I immediately wondered, “what have I gotten us into?” My husband went in to register and quickly returned to the car to get me—“you have to come in, too, so we can go to the Check In Room.” That raised my defenses even higher. So we walked in the front door and Todd, the OCD controlling Inn Keeper, told us to take off our shoes and he gave us a pair of Crocs as our “house shoes”. I wondered how many toe fungal feet had been in those shoes before me. I was so taken aback that I was speechless. Had I not been so shocked, I’d have called a halt to this crazy show right then.  We go into the Check In Room and first thing I notice is a monitor with images from the cameras he has set up everywhere—outside; in entry; in stairwell; in great room—and those were just the ones we could see and identify. There’s no telling how many more he had or where they were hidden. I felt like I needed to shower with my clothes on. 

He offered his wifi and gave us a password which we used. Very soon, like a bolt from the blue, I turned off my wifi and asked my husband to do the same. Todd had access to our devices since we were on his internet and using the password that he provided.

What’s the deal with the Crocs? The carpets were filthy. The area rug in the Great Room was absolutely nasty. I hated wearing the Crocs—they hurt my feet and I cringed when wondering about the wearers before me—-but I wouldnt have dared walked barefoot. The hardwood floors had stains of spills, etc. The garbage can in the kitchen needed a good scrubbing. It had a swing lid that was nasty and I didnt even want to touch it.

A washer and dryer were offered so I chose to do a load of laundry.  “Inn Keeper Todd” bull dozed his way twixt the washer and me and took over. He put in way too much detergent so I closed the little drawer. He yanked it back open and picked up the softener. I said, “Oh, no! No! I NEVER use softener in our laundry.” He proceeded to pour a hefty dose of it in so now our clothes have a nauseous sweet stinky aroma!

Meanwhile 2 new guests walked in the door looking lost and bewildered. (They saw the gun and mask pix/warnings on the front windows as well as the banner on the front of this establishment. ) In a nano second Todd emerged from wherever he hides out to take them through the paces. When they emerged from the “Check In Room”, one of them looked at me, made a face, and rolled their eyes. And another crazy thing—-we were given a sniglet of what they deemed to be a bar of soup—-to shower with. It was smaller than the ends of bars that we toss at home when they’ve passed their usefulness. 

There are at least 2 female mannequins stationed around the place. They are NOT the size of your average woman—-these are Amazon women. Wonder if there are cameras hidden in their eyeballs???

This morning the guests who arrived last night and I chatted and the numerous cameras were mentioned. They didn’t speak above a whisper nor did they use the offered internet for fear of Todd getting into their iPads. They wasted no time making tracks this morning.

Despite my having paid for this weird, eerie, and frightening experience, Todd said he needed our credit card. He took it to his computer and did what I have no idea. He needed it in case we left anything behind, said he. “You’d really be surprised at what people leave.” And again, why’d I fork over our card? I was just so taken aback by this entire experience that I didn’t speak up. I guess I was intimidated.  Don’t know what a shrink would say about this but I just couldn’t make myself make eye contact with Todd. I found myself looking away anytime we had to interact.

Our advice—go elsewhere—-anywhere!!! This was the most bizarre and scary experience we’ve ever had. And the surveillance!!! Our privacy was jeopardized and I terrible resent that. There is something amiss in that household so I say, “run for the hills!”

If you're considering staying here, please read the reviews on multiple sites before committing to anything. The people that run this place are difficult to work with on a good day. I made a reservation and had something come up right after I made it and paid. I called back and had to get the third degree about why I was canceling even though it was 5 minutes later. Given the reviews I had read, this wasn't terribly surprising. The cancellation I received wasn't very clear, and when I asked for clarification, I got ghosted. If your gut tells you to stay away, listen to that.

Yikes!

This was a wonderful B & B in Avon.  Very convenient location and absolutely wonderful breakfasts.  Loved that the chef prepared individual breakfast in the true of European B & B's.  Lovely welcoming touches such as a rose and candy to welcome us.   Though slightly inconvenient to change to crocs coming in and out and to breakfast house given skiers and otherwise wet floors I very much appreciated this.  Owners provided crocs to wear inside.  Very thoughtful touches much appreciated.  Nice hot tub but couldn't get lid to stay open despite bungee.

True B & B

I stayed in room #7 which was a very large room with a remodeled bath and 2nd floor balcony. It was a great stay from beginning to end. The location is terrific. It’s an 8-minute walk to the Avon gondola. Breakfast was extremely good. Overall I strongly recommend.

Clean room, wonderful location!

Just checked in to this place. There is a camera in the entry way, a camera in the kitchen, a camera in the living room and a camera on the stairwell to the upstairs bedroom. It’s creepy AF and I wouldn’t be surprised if there were more we didn’t know
About. Just beware. I’ve NEVER stayed at
A bed and breakfast where I was being watched. Won’t be back.

Cameras everywhere no privacy

We paid for a 300sf room with a balcony and were given a tiny room with a tiny bathroom. We mentioned it to the owner and were just brushed off.   No one wore masks.  Too many rules--no food or drink in your room--not even coffee.  You were required to change shoes at the door and again when you went next door for breakfast.  Location was convenient to Vail and other areas, breakfast was okay
but I would never stay here again

NOT A NICE STAY

Friendly staff/owners, clean rooms and common areas; awesome breakfast with great selection of freshly prepared hot breakfast, fresh berries, smoked salmon, coffe and drinks Tamera made special efforts to prepare breakfast to meet my dietary restrictions (GF and Vegan). It was great to use the hot tube after a day a skiing. Kitchen stocked with pots, dishes, etc. Plenty of space for food in the refrigerator. Free use of laundry machines, including laundry soap. Located near bus stop or short walk to gondola. I would definitely stay here again.
