Horrible experience! Desk clerk/owner was extremely rude and confrontational the minute we walked into the hotel.  Once we were checked in, we realized he  stuck us in a handicap room with a full size bed.  We reserved a queen size bed and the hotel was virtually empty so there was no excuse for not having a room like we reserved.  We'd been driving all day and hotel choices are limited in Aztec, otherwise we would have left immediately and went to another hotel.  The owner's attitude was no better the next morning.  When checking out he actually said "he didn't like people like us" and he ended yelling at us to "Get out! You're trespassing!".  Unbelievable!  I'm still shocked by the way we were treated and would NEVER recommend staying at this hotel!

Nightmare in Aztec

We booked multiple rooms at the Comfort Inn in Aztec, NM for a family wedding. Every room was spotless and quiet, ticking the most important boxes for any hotel stay in my opinion. Cliff, the owner and manager, was consistently present and pleasant, offering great service to those who showed him the same courtesy. We also spent a couple of hours at the newly renovated fire pit in the hotel courtyard, which was a lovely experience.

Breakfast was hot and met expectations; although it could benefit from extending past 9am for those of us who aren't morning people. Initially, I had reservations due to some poor reviews, but my experience suggests that those were likely retaliatory. 

The only minor drawback was the limited number of convenient outlets, so consider bringing a power strip.

Overall, I would not hesitate to stay here again next time I am in Aztec and highly recommend it.

Clean Rooms and Great Service for Family Wedding in Aztec, NM

We only spent 1 night here, but we had no issues. Clean bedroom & bathroom. I asked about laundry and was put next door. Worked out very well. $2 wash/$2dry. Breakfast was standard .. scrambled eggs, sausage, biscuits/gravy, fruit, bread items and waffle maker. Close to attractions & town.  Great stay.

Short Stay

I usually avoid Comfort Inns because I have never yet had a welcoming front desk person at a Choice property, and this place exemplifies that aspect. The front desk person was surly, humorless, and truly a jerk. We didn't have many other options in Aztec though, so oh well. The room was very comfortable so I have no complaints on that. Would not stay here again though, given a Choice. 

Unfriendly

Absolutely terrible management! Manager/owner “Cliff” yelled at young kids attempting to use the pool. He tried to grab one of the minor children after he called the police on them when they were leaving as they were asked. He then took a picture of the children ages ranging from 9-17. He trespassed us and videoed us as we attempted to gather our things from our room. Absolutely horrendous customer service. No cars in the parking lot either… wonder why?

Do not stay here

This hotel is listed as a dog friendly hotel. We arrived with our 1 pet and 1 service dog. The Indian guy at the front desk began asking us inappropriate questions about our service dog and when we refused to answer these personal questions he cancelled our reservation and kicked us out at 10:00 at night. I then went on a dog hotel app to find a close hotel and there was a presidential suites listed very close. I quickly booked that hotel to realize it was the same hotel. When I tired to cancel my reservation minutes later the front desk guy refused. Thank goodness I used my Amex to book. This place is terrible!

Not dog friendly or even friendly

This is a very fluid review, as they are currently converting & renovating the Presidential Inn & Suites (a Choice hotels partner) into an actual Comfort Inn & Suites as of the Spring/Summer of 2022.

I do a lot of travel for work, and usually stay in Farmington, NM or Durango, CO when I am in the area.  Branded hotels in Durango in the summer are extremely expensive, and since my first work stop for the day was in Aztec, I figured I'd give the Aztec hotel a try since I didn't want to have to double back from Farmington.

As of early-June, 2022 the old Presidential name still adorns all the outside signage and no signs (no pun intended) of this hotel being a Comfort Inn and Suites,...yet.

The hotel is not that old -- 4 floors with outdoor pool and hot tub.  The room was clean and seemed to be recently renovated as part of the rebranding.

There also was still some evidence of areas in and near the lobby that were still being worked on, but overall, was still somewhat inviting. The breakfast area was a little wonky  as breakfast items were in two separate areas in the lobby.

With this particular hotel, there is somewhat a trade-off for this quiet, more economical hotel, and this is not the hotel's fault:

1) This hotel looks to have been built originally to cater to the area gas & oil businesses ‐‐ which has kinda been disappearing in the last several years.  As such, it's location sits right in the middle of what's left of the dwindling industrial area so it looks like it's in no-mans land.

2) The downtown area and main drag of Aztec is 1-2 miles to the north, but to walk there from the hotel is not that inviting, again due to the barren industrial area.  Ditto with all retail and restaurant establishments -- driving is the best option.  There is only a small truck-stop/C-Store within a 5 minute walk.

But don't let those minuses affect your consideration of this hotel.  Again, they are still in conversion mode, and you may get lost trying to find it for a bit longer, until the new signs are up, but it is a nice, quiet hotel and definitely cheaper than similar hotels in Farmington and definitely Durango -- both about 30 minutes +/‐ away.

Hopefully, this review will carry over into the future reviews of the new Comfort Inn branding of the hotel.

Just Changing To A Comfort Suites.  NIce Less Expensive Hotel, But With Sacrifices.

Terrible experience, and I do not recommend anyone staying there. The hotel is under renovation. Not many guests. They will become part of "Choice" hotel chain after the renovation is completed. 

The front desk staff, Cliff, was very rude. 
When I called and asked for clarification questions, he got upset, turned around accusing me of troublemaking, and making other guests uncomfortable (when there wasn't anyone around). Cliff did not allow me to speak and asked me to leave, rudely. I left, no point of staying in a hotel with this poor customer service.  

Do not stay in this hotel.

Don't stay here

Manager claimed he needed to charge security deposit which would be returned upon checkout, assuming no damage. At checkout security deposit was kept although no damage or additional charges to room.  When contacted 2 days layer, Cliff (manager) claimed he refunded deposit. He did not!

Unethical management

Worst hotel experience in 20 years. No hot water. When asked for a different room or discount was told it could not be done. It gets worse.  Beverage warehouse across the street begins operations at 3:30 AM. Extremely loud. What a lousy hotel. Do everything you can to avoid.
