I had a v ery pleasent stay here. I decided last minute to take a road trip to Bar Harbor and was lucky to get a room at the Central House. It was on the third floor which I think was a reason it was still available but that was fine with me. I loved the location with is proximitry to downtown. There was not breakfast available but that was not a problem. There were plenty of places to eat near by. It was very clean and plenty of parking. Price was also very reasonable. 

Stay at the Central House, you wont be disapointed

We love staying in old historic homes and The Central House was perfect.  The decor of the house was classic from the period, yet comfortable.  Our room was small but comfortable.  The shower was cozy for my husband but doable.  The floors are somewhat wonky which added to the charm of the place.  Phil, the owner, was always available for questions and information.  The sunroom was a relaxing place to sit at the table and enjoy Phil's fresh-baked chocolate chip cookies in the afternoon with a cup of coffee or tea.  We enjoyed sitting on the covered front porch reading and people-watching.  The Central House is located right in downtown Bar Harbor and we walked everywhere.  It's a short drive to the entrance to Acadia National Park.  As noted in the online listing, there is no elevator for the 2nd and 3rd floors.  We plan to stay there again when we return to Bar Harbor.

Loved our stay at the historic Central House

The Central House was a convenient hotel in the centre of Bar Harbor for exploring Acadia.  There was ample parking and comfortable rooms plus a lounge for guests with coffee and tea available 24 hours a day.  The owner was very helpful printing off park passes for us.

Comfortable hotel in central Bar Harbor

There is much to admire in this centrally-located and historic guest house. Comfortable sofas abound in informal public areas, coffee and tea are on tap and rooms have all essentials, even if the relatively cheaper attic rooms are a little small. But the sense is that Bar Harbor does not have to try too hard and now that business is returning there are areas that could do with a bit of love and attention.  Hence 4* rating.

Appealing, bags of character but slightly tired

This hotel is in an old, but well-kept house close to the waterfront and businesses in Bar Harbor.  The room was clean, the bed was comfortable and everything functioned properly.  Ample parking was provided.  There were several large sitting rooms inside and a covered front porch with chairs.  At $325 a night, the room wasn’t cheap, but nothing in Bar Harbor is cheap.  We particularly liked being able to leave our car at the hotel and walk everywhere in town.

Great location for visiting Bar Harbor and Acadia

The Central House was perfect for my quick Acadia trip! I was in room 301, which was great for a solo traveler, but would be tight (but doable) for a couple. The private bathroom is across the hall, and it's tiny but functional. I'll echo another poster that a mirror in the room would be helpful (although the tv screen works pretty well in a pinch!), but the room was clean and the bed comfortable, and I have no complaints. The inn itself is sweet and unpretentious, and the location can't be beat. It was a relief to have a private parking lot and just be able to enjoy busy Bar Harbor on foot! I wouldn't hesitate to stay again.

Perfect stay!

My room was one of the small rooms of the first floor.  It was just fine for me and fine for a couple.  Nice big King bed or can be 2 single beds.  Bathroom was ok size and clean.  The bed was very comfortable.  One wish would have been they give you at least one bottle of water per person in your room.  I had to ask for a bottle and was given one.   It would be a nice touch to have one in the room waiting.  Great location to lots of places to eat.  It was 3-5 min walk to the downtown pier area.  Parking was nice to have in their lot too.  Hugh front porch for people watching or enjoying coffee, drinking or meeting  new friends.  I would return here for another stay in the future.

Clean house, rooms, public areas

We stayed at The Central House for 3 nights during our recent vacation. The hotel is lovely. Our room was quite large and very comfortable. We were pleasantly surprised. The location is perfect for getting to shops and restaurants as well as the waterfront. They offer coffee, tea and hot chocolate around the clock and while there are no refrigerators in the rooms, there is one in the common area that is for guest use. If you’re looking for a quaint place to stay on Bar Harbor, this is it!

Quaint, Comfortable, Lovely Hotel

I have already recommended The Central House to several people who are thinking about visiting Bar Harbor and Acadia NP. My wife and I really enjoyed the Inn and the convienient location. My special thanks to Phil who is sending me some personal stuff I neglected to pack.

Excellent location, great owner and very interesting history

This is a wonderful old home with tons of history and charm.  Although it's about a half mile from the coast, it's quieter than the big tourist scene on the water.  The lobby is the old living room and parlor with much of the original furniture. The front porch is a terrific spot to hang out at the end of the day and chat with other guests over a glass of wine, or in the morning over coffee. A side pantry has an espresso machine,  refrigerator and cups, glasses etc. The room was very nice with large windows and nice details.  In spite of the antique feeling, everything worked well; plumbing, TV, wifi.  The house keeper was as charming as the old house.  Our visit was made even nicer with great weather. Would stay here again.
