Incredibly sad. We’ve been patrons of the Sea Spray for over twenty five years. Last year was the last year we will ever have come here. We won’t ever be back this place has gone progressively downhill for OUR tastes. 

I used to come with my own family and then my mom and kids for the longest time. Prior to coming here we would frequent the B and Bs like Hydrangea House and Magnolia House. Eventually we moved on to Sea Spray once one of those was sold and closed. 

The Sea Spray was always a welcoming fun spot. Heated pool; clean rooms; awesome grills; great beach access. Sure you have to drive everywhere but that’s LBI this ain’t a walkable beach town. You want that? You go to the Cape. If you want to  boogie board and ride bikes and jog and walk and bird watch and do great long walks along the roads and great long surrey or bike rides this is your place. 

We love going to Murphys and Kaplans and coming back to Sea Spray to grill up our dinner. And sit by the heated pool. Or play some ping pong. 

But what the heck happened to this place?? Yes you got Anthony at the front desk. He’s nice and all a little emo but a cool kid for sure and mature and accommodating despite outward appearances give the kid a chance if he’s still there. He sure beats the crabby big guy who used to run the joint or the crabby ladies who used to run the front desk. 

But what about these rooms?? Good lord. They reek of pine-sol. That doesn’t mean they are clean. If just means they reek of pine-sol like they are covering up the smell of mold and mildew (which is visible under the peeling wallpaper) -_-  there’s actual holes in the wall bathroom wall. Wallpaper peeling. And get this baloney NO BLANKETS on the beds. What in the ever living free world?! Is this something new? Talk about new level of ghetto unlocked. I actually had to check with front desk on why there weren’t any bedspreads because I had a thought I hope they don’t try to accusing us of leaving with them at check out. Or something bizarre like that.  Nope. No blankets said the front desk. Oh. Ok. That’s different. 

Not to mention the smoking outside the rooms and the dude hocking up a lung at all hours of the night for hours and hours and hours right below my bathroom window. Patrons walking around cursing in front of our children and yelling at their own kids with their NY accents. Ugh. It felt trashy. The clientele is not our vibe. The pool police old dude squad  is abrasive and off-putting. The bathroom sink water smells like sewer and the shallow tub fills with ankle deep water when you shower. 

 The place just felt dirty and unfriendly. I can’t put it into words or describe it. It’s just different here now. It’s not the same way it used to be. It doesn’t feel welcoming. It doesn’t feel cozy. It doesn’t feel special. It just had a really off vibe to it. We won’t be back. 

We’ve found a cozier option down the road that’s got the fun upscale cheerful cozy vibes we need and we are good with that! So long sea spray thank you for all the great memories we made here. You were wonderful while it lasted. I hope y'all catch on someday to the cheerful clean bright aesthetic vibe that you need to have to survive beach town and ride those waves to success. You deserve it ol gal!

Not what it once was. Its not the same Sea Spray from even 10 years ago

absolutely terrible experience. dirty rooms, pool was drained (but no warning about that before arriving), bedding was not set out and was still damp when we checked in, staff were not available during posted hours. AVOID THIS PLACE!!!!!

the worst motel in LBI

The Sea Spray is located in a quiet area of Holgate. It is clean, has great staff, and a welcoming vibe. Our room was perfect for myself and my partner. We had an efficiency. We grilled twice, they clean the grills daily. The beach is across the street and the bay is on the other side. I used the pool twice, it's also clean with plenty of loungers and umbrella tables to sit at. They always asked if we needed anything and promptly provided fresh towels and supplies when asked. They are regularly cleaning the grounds so it looks pristine and neat. We came back this year after we experienced this last year and will return for 2 weeks next year. I cannot compliment them enough. Also, within walking distance are bike rentals, food and ice cream. Fantasy island is less then 2 miles away. Trish at the front desk was always ready to help with our questions and requests. We love The Sea Spray❤️😁👍👆😊

Great Motel, great location, wonderful staff, reasonable rates

The Sea Spray Motel is exactly what my wife and I wanted for our return trip to the Jersey Shore. We were visiting friends for the 4th of July week from our home in South Carolina and their house was just a block away but full with their kids and grandkids.  
Starting back in November of 2022,  when I called to make our four night reservation, I instantly felt that this motel was going to be the right place to stay. Upon arrival in the late afternoon the new manager greeted us at the  reception desk with a nice welcome. He helped me out with a couple of computer issues as well. Our room was perfect for a beach motel. It was clean and had everything we needed for our stay.  And it was quiet! 
The staff at this motel was so nice. I found myself chatting away with the ladies at the front desk. The cleaning people were very friendly as well and made sure the room was ready when we returned from the beach.
We highly recommend The Sea Spray Motel for a real Jersey Shore Getaway.

What a Great Find!

Horrible experience! We booked three rooms. All of them had a very potent smell of mold. You actually were able to see the mold! My daughter has terrible allergies and had a reaction immediately. We couldn’t stay there. We asked for a refund and they refused. They had maintenance “ wipe” the mold off. Mold is a serious health hazard and needs to be removed safely. I don’t think the motel was ever renovated since they opened. They still advertise “color TV” like that’s a new thing. The manager contacted the owner about our issue and he prepared a “statement “ that was read to me. He was never present at the motel and claimed that he had cameras with audio and he heard all of our conversations. He stated things that never took place in the conversations with the manger. I WOULD NEVER GO THERE AGAIN!!!

MAJOR HEALTH CONCERNS!!!!

This was a very dated motel with peeling wallpaper, an odor of (?) and a bed that was hard as a rock. We had no option as we were in town for a wedding reception and all other locations were booked.

On the positive side, the pool looked clean.  The walk to the beach is right across the street.  They had a ping pong table outside as well.  Check in was quick, as was our check out.  Location good.

Very dated

We stayed only one night and had a great time at the Sea Spray Hotel.
The rooms were very clean.

The pool was amazing except for the different levels(stubbed toes) so you do need to be aware of them. The attached hot tub was added bonus. Water was very clean & heated!

Restaurant was closed on Monday so we bought lunch from The Chegg & ate poolside.

They supplied beach chairs, which we took advantage of & used the convenient water spray to wash off sand as you walk off beach.

We would definitely return but rates will be going up since they are planning a renovation for 2023.

Seems LBI is not a sleepy little island anymore (hasn't been for awhile) but still a great place for family vacations.

Early Fall Getaway

I have stayed in many places on Long Beach Island but none matched the relaxing atmosphere of the Sea Spray Motel. The owners and staff were kind and gracious, the rooms clean, light and airy, the location quiet and proximity to essentials (groceries, pharmacy, restaurants, family activities, shopping) close by. Butch, retired after 22 years in the Navy, is the charming Pool Attendant who kept watch over us- making sure we applied sunblock, keeping strangers away and regaling us with a myriad of interesting stories. Not fancy but solid in every way a home away from home should be- I highly recommend the Sea Spray as a place I plan on returning again and again! :)

Wonderful gem on the South End

I have been a resident of Holgate for 6 years.  Unfortunately this year, the beach patrol has not been able to guard all the beaches the week before Labor Day.  One of the only guarded beaches in the town is Osborn Avenue.  I loaded up five young children to find parking close to that beach entrance.  There is no street parking on Osborn Avenue, so after driving around for several minutes I saw that the parking lot of the Sea Spray was nearly empty and there were no signs indicating hotel parking only in the main parking area.  I parked as far as possible from the motel so as not to disturb the guests, and as there were over 30 (photo attached) empty spaces, I though there would be no issue.  I unloaded the kids and beach gear and a man came out and started yelling that parking was for guests only.

In the past, I have directed our overflow guests to the Sea Spray but I will no longer be doing so.

(As I drove away I did see a sign away from the main parking area that parking was for guests only, unfortunately this was behind a bin.)

Shocked and disgusted

First, their annoying rule that kids under 16 are not allowed in pool without adult ... which is only enforced when a motel employee is on duty at the pool. (He was missing for 2 days.)  Next, could feel the springs on the squeaky mattress. VERY uncomfortable. Lastly, no "hot" water ... only warm, and not even that in the evening. Apparently not enough to serve all the rooms. Still gave it 2 stars because it was immaculately clean.
