Arrived at the hotel to check in and their system was down due to a cable issue. Receptionist stated I could not check in nor change credit cards as the card on my IHG account was used rather being able to change cards at the hotel. Then called IHG customer relations who contacted hotel confirmed their system was down and gave me a case #.Assured me that as it was not my fault they would not charge me a cancellation fee. I noticed full reservation was still on my IHG account and called local hotel. They stated their manager stated no to a refund as others were allowed into their rooms. I then went to the hotel after IHG contacted them again today. I gave the local manager my personal credit card and he was the RUDEST manager I have ever met. He ended up refunding the charges on that other work card thank God but was angry with me for contacting IHG!

Terrible Manager

Dear IHG Hotel Corporation,

I am writing to express my profound disappointment and outrage regarding the treatment I received today at your Candlewood Suites location in Bemidji, Minnesota. As a loyal member of the IHG family and a frequent traveler, I never anticipated such a distressing experience, especially during a time of personal crisis.

Today, my mother underwent surgery in Bemidji, and emotionally exhausted, I reached out to Candlewood Suites for an early check-in. Kari at the front desk, displaying kindness and empathy, offered to assist me despite the early hour. However, upon arrival, I was confronted with an appalling situation orchestrated by your manager, Ryan.

Despite booking through the IHG travel agent portal with a valid travel agent rate, I was informed by Ryan that the rate would not be honored. His demeanor was hostile and dismissive, going as far as accusing me of knowingly exploiting an outdated rate from 2018. When I attempted to clarify the situation, Ryan's behavior escalated, mocking me and making derogatory remarks about my profession and personal circumstances.

Ryan's conduct was not only unprofessional but deeply distressing. As a single female traveler, I felt utterly unsafe and vulnerable in his presence. His disregard for customer service and blatant disrespect towards me and his own staff, particularly Kari, is unacceptable by any standard.

Feeling so unsafe that I had no choice but to leave, I sought accommodation elsewhere. This decision was not taken lightly but was necessary for my well-being and peace of mind.

I left the premises in tears, shaken by the encounter, which is an unprecedented response for me. As the owner of a successful travel agency, I understand the importance of customer satisfaction and professional conduct. Ryan's behavior falls far short of these expectations and warrants immediate action.

I implore you to thoroughly investigate this incident and take appropriate disciplinary measures against Ryan. No guest should ever be subjected to such mistreatment, especially during moments of personal vulnerability.

Furthermore, I intend to share my experience on various social media platforms to ensure that others are aware of the appalling treatment I endured. I trust that IHG Hotel Corporation will take swift and decisive action to address this matter and restore faith in the Candlewood Suites brand.

Unacceptable treatment

The hotel was quite, clean, and comfortable. I was not happy when I saw Fox News on the lobby television when we were leaving. It may be a stereotype, but I worry that people who watch Fox hate people like me. Public spaces should have more neutral programming. 

Clean and Quiet, But Fox News in Lobby Was Disturbing

Breanna was amazing at check in, kind and accommodating.  The hotel itself had great amenities (a grill, store, in-room cooking and full fridge).  The beds were so comfortable.  Right next to trails and grocery store. We loved our stay.  We would highly recommend.

Great, comfort stay

This was our third night on the road of a 21-day road trip across the Dakotas to Montana and back.  But after staying the night in this dung heap, we were ready to turn around an go back home.

The parking lot and indoor common areas were filthy.  The room was slightly better.  The room decor was 80s goth, and especially the super-dark kitchenette cabinets.  The A/C unit kept coming on no matter how high we set it.  

On the one up side, the lady at the front desk when we checked in seemed nice.  And I don't think I've ever used the words "too much shower water pressure" in a hotel room before.

We had booked a month before our travel, but this was the highest rated hotel available for our night in Bemidji.  But it's now clear why they still had rooms.  I just want to know who all the eejits are who've given this place a 4/5 star rating!  

Even though we booked early, we paid $158 all-in for this miserable experience.  If we hadn't guaranteed the room with a credit card, and if we hadn't been too tired to fight about it, we would have gone right back downstairs and checked back out.  

Sure, this is the brave new post-Covid world we now live and travel in, with much higher prices and far fewer lodging services.  But this hot mess was ridiculous to the extreme.  As it is, the most we can do now is to never ever stay in another Candlewood or IHG property for as long as we both live.

One of the worst hotel experiences we've ever had, anywhere in the world

I am generous giving 3 stars . The hotel is more as accommodation for the people have to work seasons jobs  around and need affordable accommodation.
The worse part is the AC that’s blow you away if you keep it on. I don’t want to go more in details but if you need an hotel in this area look forward alternatives.

Not an hitel, more as temporary accommodation for season workers.

Room was large with full size frig. microwave and hotplate. Linen was top notch, bed and tv were great. Paul Bunyan Trail is right in back of facility. 2 regular chairs, comfortable reading chair, and plenty of desk space

Nice Place in very handy location

Stayed for 2 nights while attending graduation at BSU. Really nice room, lots of space to spread out. Had a little of a "new" smell, so you could tell it had recently been updated. Pretty clean, but there was popcorn in the couch when I pulled out the sofa bed. TV needs to be alot larger for the room; it's too small. Awesome water pressure in the shower! One cool thing they have is that you can "borrow" stuff; from an ethernet cable to board games and books, to a crock pot and blender. My only suggestion is to upgrade the coffee pot to a Keurig; the coffee is horrible.  I love the area; first time here. I hope to one day return and would consider staying here.

Graduation stay

Front desk people nice and helpful but sometimes didn’t wear masks. Didn’t see much evidence of Covid type cleaning but seemed reasonably clean overall. Walls thin, glad I brought ear plugs. Appreciated the little kitchen which had all one needed. 

I was on a business trip and the hotel has everything you need for that, clean and confortable, close to the lake and fast food restaurants, I don’t think you need more for a business trip I will be back the next time
