Check-in was 4 pm and we arrived at 5 pm.  We were to stay on the top floor which has 3 beds.   Some fun highlights:

- The smell of mothballs was like a punch in the face when stepping inside 
- I knew it was old but I didn't realize we had to "trust" the staircase that leans about 20 degrees and has broken/cracked steps. 
- We found our room in complete disarray - sheets on the ground and not cleaned. There was of course no communication that the room would not be ready for us. 
- There was an 'adjoining' room that appears to be usually locked(?) where it appears someone may or may not live?  The lock and door were open and it was in complete disarray with toys, junk, and used food plates sitting out. 
- It was VERY hot on the top floor and there wasn't even a fan attempting to cool it down.

We chose to not stay as the mothball smell was overpowering and given the condition of the room. I texted the owner regarding the issues, said we were not staying, and nicely asked for a refund of some kind.  Silence. What a great way to run a 'hotel' 

We've stayed in many historic B&Bs and this is NOT one of them.

Mothballs and adjoining room?

My girlfriend and I stayed here for 3 days - 2 nights while acclimating to the altitude and exploring CO. The hotel is beyond charming from the architecture to the decor. Lauren is a wonderful host with a wealth of knowledge regarding the local activities, eateries, etc. We will definitely be recommending a stay here to anyone we know that comes to the area. 

Charm and hospitality

I was excited to stay here as I needed a quick and safe mountain getaway... I was planning on staying for 2 days but had a family emergency and had to leave after 1 night. At first I thought Lauren was cool, then I tried to explain what was going on and she took no pity on my situation and charged me a large cancellation fee + tax, so $150 for an $88 room, and she was plain rude when I just tried to even say how much I enjoyed the hotel, views, and even that I wanted to come back. I’m poor af; so it really was quite shocking she was so dismissive, she certainly could have worked with me, I wasn’t even there for more than about 12 hours, used the restroom once. There was no real breakfast and I just felt no hospitality at all here. Rooms are dingy… Idk why there are so many good reviews? I gave it my best shot but I can gladly say I’ll never stay here again. I left a gift even to show my appreciation, but at what cost. Smh. What a cute town, it’s a shame history has to be in the hands of someone like that… sigh.

This is NOT a hotel or even a good B&B!

Good location to ski/snowboard a lot of local mountains like Arapahoe, Loveland, Keystone etc.  Owner is very friendly.  The breakfast is Awesome!  Super clean.  I definitely recommend this hotel.  Good value.

Ski trip

Absolutely charming! Was a trip to another era. Sunrise from the balcony while eating the homemade quiche and fresh coffee was sublime. :)

Delightfully preserved history, great care, family business!

We didn’t actually stay here but while we waited for our train ride down the road, we decided to walk the little town of silver plume. As we were walking by, we heard a grumble and were greeted by the happiest pup ever named lucky. The owner came out while we were giving him love and she was extremely friendly. We advised her that we wouldn’t be staying but she was still as kind as could be and recommended that we try the coffee shop and the bread bar down the road. Both were amazing and are a must visit. If you’re looking for a gorgeous, quiet, getaway in a small town filled with insanely nice people, silver plume is the place and the Windsor is the hotel. 

Just passed through. 

We have a open night between being in Denver and the mountains and decided to spend it at the Windsor in Silver Plume. Plume, as the local call it, is one of those interstate 70 towns that you may have blown by and barely noticed. It is, however, worth a stop and stay. Just an exit past Georgetown, you can eat/shop in Georgetown and sleep in an authentic silver mining era hotel. Much of the hotel has been well preserved, down to the fabulous wall paper upstairs in the hallway and some of the rooms. Our bed was comfy and slept great. Depending on occupancy, there may be a wait for the bathroom, but was not a problem for us. Breakfast is self service, but with multiple options. We enjoyed our stay and you should, too.

Historic Charm at its Best!

The Historic Windsor B&B is just charming.  My husband and I loved the creaky floors, Victorian fixtures, lovely decor and gracious hostess, who is so accommodating and an excellent cook and baker.  This building is old and that's what makes it quaint and charming. The bed was so comfy.  The inn has an upper story deck to relax on.  Lauren keeps a few beers and sodas in the fridge for your refreshment.  The breakfast room is self-serve and well-stocked with hand-made goods.  The towels are luxurious and anything you could need in the bathroom is there.  Wifi worked great, even upstairs.   Now for those who prefer modern amenities I have a few things to add.  If you like new and modern this is not the hotel for you.  This is a very old house so outlets can be scarce.  There was no TV in our room (there's too much else to do to even need one).  There is one bathroom upstairs (well, a toilet room and a separate room with a wonderful claw-foot bathtub and pedestal sink) so guests must share.  There are many things about this house that are old, which is so wonderful because so many old houses have been made to look new. Maybe old isn't for everyone but I would stay here again and again. Historic!  So quaint and charming.

Loved staying here. My ten year old at first was concerned there was no tv in the rooms But after meeting Lauren and family and seeing the hotel and little mining town she fell in love. The owners were very nice and even invited us down for dinner on outlet last night. Great place to crash when skiing and it’s only 12 min from Loveland basin and 30- 60 min from numerous others. I’ve stayed a lot of different places. This one I will definitely be back.

Absolutely a great place

I've stayed at the Windsor several times and it is always a pleasure!  The B&B is a relaxing spot in the historic town of Silver Plume.  The rooms are clean and the breakfast is great.  Highly recommended!
