Thankfully my credit card company ruled in my favor and I got a full refund.

I booked a stay here via AAA. The Inn's address given to me by AAA was (and still is) incomplete - which is the responsibility of the owner to maintain - and the address given on Google was (and still is) incorrect. I was not able to find the establishment because of this negligence - I was navigated to the opposite side of town. I had to book a different hotel after a 10 hour drive, and after an hour of trying to find this place in a random neighborhood.

When I spoke to the owner on the phone the next morning (she wasn't answering my repeated calls at 8pm despite knowing her guest never arrived), she said she was aware of these issues, that other guests had the same problem I did, yet she had not taken measures to update her listings on AAA or Google - and was unwilling to give me a refund. She was also quite rude. Months later, I am seeing that the address has not been corrected by the owner for either online listing. Clearly the owner doesn't care if her would-be guests are inconvenienced or can't find the place, given that she has a "no refunds" policy.

Other information on the Inn's AAA and Google listings were misleading and incorrect (there's actually a quite limited check-in time, breakfast is not offered, etc.), and if correct information had been provided I would not have booked with them to begin with. Agents with AAA attempted to reach the owner to tell her to update the information on the listing, too.

Furthermore, when I was booking my alternate stay at a nearby hotel (Hampton Inn in Black Mountain - really nice stay, such nice people!), they said they've had other guests that booked with the Black Mountain Inn, took one step inside, and turned right back around!

If anyone else runs into the same issue: file a dispute with your credit card company if possible. I made my case based on the information above, and they issued me a full refund.

Do NOT book this place! I felt so scammed.

NOT AS ADVERTISED.  This is NOT a quaint, cozy bed & breakfast.  This is a poorly maintained 130-year-old building.  The Buncombe County Building and Safety Commission should be notified of the unsafe and unclean conditions there.  There was a disgusting array of dirt and animal hair on the floor under the bed.  The rooms tilt so much the floors are separating from the walls. The lights don’t work in several rooms. The bathrooms were definitely not Covid clean. The walkway steps are unlit and slippery making it very hazardous to traverse at night.

Ms. June Bergerson purports to be the innkeeper. This must not be her sole source of income or she has been at it too long and needs to retire. Her “Mountain Hospitality” was woefully inept.   Do not be fooled that she gives a hoot about you. We stayed there for 3 days and she never showed up once to greet us, give us any information or provide us with instructions.  The outside maintenance man was the only one there. He “checked” us in by providing a room key and directions to operate the front door. There was no literature in the rooms to give us any information. He kept saying she’ll be right back.  She did not show up at all for our entire stay. Is this what “Limited Hours” means on their website? 

Perhaps if she had troubled herself in the slightest, we would have learned that this was NOT a B&B as advertised. At some time in the morning, they leave outside your door a paltry thermos of bitter coffee – not enough for 2 cups, a small container of some sort of cream and the most meager fruit and small prepackaged cheese.  All with no refrigeration. God only knows how long it was sitting out there.  

Perhaps if she had been anything more than useless, we could have asked what the wi-fi password was.  We got it from the maintenance man when we managed to catch him the second day.  The wi-fi was spotty and feeble at best. There was no one around at all to ask for assistance with linens or extra bathroom supplies.  What if there had been an emergency?  Not a sole around to ask.

They advertise that the Inn is Air Conditioned.  What they don’t tell is they don’t turn it on.  It was 80 degrees in there.  The ceiling fan in the room only had one speed - slow.  It was quite uncomfortable.

I managed to reach Ms. Bergeron by phone after our stay.  I tried to discuss these issues with her.  She was not at all interested in hearing any feedback. In fact, she hung up on me. 

Do not stay here, don’t let your friends, family or co-workers stay here.  Don’t have your wedding here, don’t have your retreat here.  You will regret it.

NOT AS ADVERTISED

The Inn was reasonably priced and cheaper than most local hotels.  The Inn is historical and nice but nothing too exciting.  The breakfast was decent but not great.  The Inn is in a good location near downtown Black Mountain.  The owner is pretty introverted, would have been nice to engage more about the Inn and surrounding area.

Nice place; nothing exciting

The Black Mountain was a delightful surprise. The restored 1830 home is decorated beautifully to compliment the architecture. The rooms are cozy with updated bathrooms. The owner is wonderful, & is an excellent host.
I highly recommend this historic bed & breakfast, as an alternative to the pricier accommodations in Asheville, which is a mere 15 minute drive away.

been before love new curtains and wall paper.  flowers and beginning of vegetable gardens.  laundry on the line.

more my views then before. and lovely table and chairs to sit outside and enjoy the flowers and birds.

each time I stay try another room.  downstairs to smell hot biscuits and jam this morning tea a mb d or coffee.

love quietness and since of stepping back in time.  talked with inn keeper on improvements and mention addition of AC.

A charming old house with a fascinating history.  Sadly, the owner seemed more like a caretaker than a host.  After 30 years, maybe she was simply tired of it.
Great "sleeping porch," nice bed and covers.  Old, holey and musty towels.  No one made up our room between nights.  Two breakfasts--eggs both times (no choices, one morning on the table and cold before we got down).
"Host" left us quite alone the whole time, which we didn't mind.  We called her to tell her the room was cold (which she addressed).
Needs some new enthusiasm.  Great trees!

"No Frills Old Place"

no air conditioning, no TV, no counter space in bathroom, no closet, very loud traffic noise, VERY LOUD train noise at least twice in middle of night; threadbare towels, some torn; the only service provided was room cleaned daily;

disappointing

I’ve been to the Black Mountain before and was so relieved to find that it hadn’t changed. It is still a peaceful, restful, serene place to spend your time. The innkeeper is still remarkably friendly and kind full of important information and do a magnificent cook. The breakfasts are magnificent! Such a wonderful restful week at the end of my very busy vacation to the United States. I am grateful she had a room and grateful I had the good sense to come. A welcome respite!

Place of timeless peace

I am 66 years old and have stayed in bed and breakfasts for at least 40 years.The Black Mountain Inn is up there with the best - carefully chosen furnishings, delicious breakfast,  comfortable beds, cotton sheets, knowledgeable hosts -what more could you ask for?
