They tried to steal my deposit last year. I canceled 6 months prior to my stay and had to call police in State College to get my refund. Took months. Horrible experience. Stressful. Sad that people would do this . I heard prior owners before these two were good folks. Would give 0 stars if I could .

Do not reserve they will charge you and not refund if you cancel even if it’s ‘refundable!’

Amazing place.  The owners, Jack and Christina are wonderful.  The place is so homey and has so much charm.  Also a ton of history.  The house is over 200 years old and has the original floors.  We enjoyed our time here immensely both talking to the owners and the other wonderful people who stayed here.  The breakfast was absolutely delicious and the sticky buns were to die for.  I highly recommend this B&B.

This place is a RIPOFF!!! the two owners are thieves stealing your money. Do NOT deal with these people. Why?? Because they charge your credit card for the full amount of the stay in advance of you ever actually staying there. Then, they refuse to cancel your reservation, even though it is well in advance of the dates. They don’t communicate at all. They don’t respond to calls, emails or social media posts. I have been battling to get my money back for over a month and I still can’t get these people to reply. I luckily used a credit card, so I at least have the ability to dispute the charge (which I am). Kristina Manuel Johnson is the owner. Please do NOT deal with them!!

Exact same experience of previous two reviewers.  I booked two trips and cancelled the next day.  They charged my credit card MORE than the quoted rate and refuse to answer emails or phone calls.  So far it has been one month of me being out over $3,000!!! Expedia has finally opened up a claim.  Worst experience ever!

DO NOT BOOK HERE!!!! Zero stars!

On 3/1/2022 I booked a room for November, 2022. I canceled it April 16, 2022, well within their advertised "60 day" refund policy, minus $30 fee. They would not take my CC payment on expedia, so originally I had to call them directly to pay. THey promptly called me and took my CC number. Then, when I had to cancel, I emailed, called, and got no response for 3.5 weeks. Within that time, I reviewed Springfield House on BBB and other sites: They keep refunds! I filed a dispute with my CC company, with the BBB, and called the State College Police. The police were very kind and helpful, as I do not live close to the hotel to follow up. My friend left a message inquiring about booking a room, and THEY CALLED HIM BACK within minutes, and had NEVER called me back about the refund. Finally, after a month, I got an email and a refund a few days later on my CC. Had I not pursued this so intently, I would be out over a thousand dollars! DO NOT STAY HERE. I would not trust my CC with them, and I am contemplating canceling that card so they do not charge it again in the future.

Under previous owners (the Speakmans) with whom we stayed in 2017 this was a wonderful, friendly, fun place to stay.  It was spotlessly clean, comfortable and I would say outstanding. 
With the new owners Kristina & Jack Johnson, my cousins and I made reservations in Jan 2022 for 4 rooms 5 nights each for Memorial Day 2022 weekend.  About 2 weeks later we determined we could not do the trip this year.  We promptly notified the Johnson's that we would have to cancel our 4 rooms.  Nothing - no response, no refund.  After multiple phone calls (left messages, no real person), and emails - still nothing.  I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and filed a dispute with my credit card company - no response to any of it. Through the end of March there was still no response, no refund from Springfield House. They had basically robbed us of over $1400 for each room. Then my credit card company tells me Springfield House says they have no record of me contacting them.  I wrote a letter detailing the date, time and that I left a message (still no live person) of every phone call I made.  I also included printouts of the emails I sent to the Johnsons.  I sent copies to both Springfield House and my credit card company.  Finally, on April 17, three months of attempts to deal with these people, I received a letter from my credit card company stating that I had a permanent refund.  Absolutely NO contact ever from Springfield House.

"More dishonesty"

I booked two nights in November for the Penn State football game.  We called 10 minutes after we booked it and had to change it to one night.  The owners of the B & B said that our reservation was changed, and we only had to pay for one night.  They never gave me a receipt and charged me for two nights.  I called they said they would credit me back.  I never received the credit and  I have no receipt so I cannot prove to the CC what transpired. They y don't call me back or answer their phone.    I am out $305.00.   Room was dusty, bottle cap on floor, dead bugs in bathroom and refrigerator was flithy.   I havae never been treated this way.

Dishonest

The hosts are very welcoming. Good breakfast and the town is cute. The restaurants were closed when we were there due to inability to hire people. Hopefully that has changed. It is just a short drive to State College

Very pleasurable stay

We stayed overnight at the at the Springfield House. Everything was PERFECT! The owners   Jack and Christina welcome you like family. 
Christina's breakfast is aboslutely delicious and her sticky buns are to die for!
The room  and bed were so comfortable!

Amazing visit

My wife and I are very happy that we stayed with Kristina & Jack at the Springfield House. It's a lovely property that is well maintained. The towels are fantastic! The daily breakfast was abundant and delicious. We enjoyed getting to know our fellow guests each morning. There is a convenient bar (Duffy's) literally steps away. Boalsburg is close to State College but far enough away to make it tranquil. We were readily able to ride our bikes from there into town and beyond. We would be happy to stay again.
