What a wonderful hidden gem of an inn in Boothbay (btw: it is NOT a B&B which we were perfectly okay with). We just came back from staying here and our stay was top notch. Super clean, friendly hosts and very comfortable bed. Love the private balcony. Lots of hot water. The grounds are beautiful and well tended. Always ice in the free ice onsite.
Located only one mile from the Boothbay Harbor tourist area and only a little over a  mile from the Beautiful Maine Coastal Botanical Gardens. Lots to do in the area: the Gardens, shopping and delicious restaurants. 
Ginny and Jim couldn't be any friendlier! We were so happy to stay here and will stay again the next time we're in the area!

Super nice, super clean lovely place to stay!

The propriety was calm and enchanting. The room was very clean and comfortable. The hosts had many great recommandations, is lovely and attentive to detail. We will definitely be back! Thanks again!  

Wonderful place

We love the Howard House. We live in Florida but love to visit BBH as often as possible. Howard House Lodge is a very short drive straight into the heart of downtown. Howard House is nestled on acres of beautifully landscape and gardens. It is private and quiet so one can relax before and after a day of fun and shopping in this quaint, authentic Maine fishing village. 

When you arrive, you are greeted by the friendly owners who have lived in BBH their entire lives. They are full of ideas, recommendations, and directions on how to get the most out of your visit. You wake up in the morning to the beautiful sound of chipping birds and the sound of nature. Each room is private with its own balcony overlooking the woods. What a way to relax and unwind.

Beautiful, relaxing Howard House

We were very pleased with the accommodations at the Howard House. We don't like spending a lot of money at a place were we only spend time sleeping and this met our needs. A short distance out of town we found the House to be extremely clean. The owners were very prompt to return a call. Although they are not doing breakfasts they did offer coffee and there are plenty of restaurants in town to eat at. I would definitely stay here again 

Very reasonably prices and clean

The grounds were beautiful and meticulously groomed. The room and deck were very nice and the area is very quiet. The breakfasts were wonderful! A different hot egg dish each morning  - excellent. Fresh and scrumptious muffins (full of blueberries) and pastry. Fresh, perfectly ripened fruits. Great coffee. The hosts are warm and welcoming people. Convenient to the harbor area. We'll be back!

Excellent stay

We spent four days at this lodge in Boothbay Harbor in July. We have stayed in many B&B's across the USA and Howard Lodge is one of the very best.The grounds were beautiful.  The room was very clean and its outside place to sit was nice. Its location is excellent, only 5 minutes to the town or the beautiful gardens. The breakfast rooms were very nice and all the food was homemade. We will certainly return. 

Wonderful Place to Stay !!

We stayed at picturesque Howard House Lodge for 3 nights. There is a separate building with 2 stories set back in the woods. It is very convenient to park your car and access your room.  Each room has a private terrace with views of the woods.  The B&B is set on 31 acres, with some nice hiking travels.  The landscaping is in keeping with a natural appearance. [The proprietors even offered us some wild geraniums which we had admired.]

The rooms are comfortable and pleasant.  While there is no ac in the rooms the ceiling fans and the open screened terrace door made the room totally comfortable for sleeping.  WiFi in the room was super fast.    

The proprietors, Ginny and Jimmy are very friendly and helpful.  Ginny suggested touring programs to see the area with suggestions for restaurants and even a great location for a picnic and a view of the fireworks on the 4th. Having someone like this to provide tips makes all the difference in a visitors experience and Ginny's assistance was just excellent.

Lodging includes a homecooked breakfast each morning in a breakfast room or on a protected terrace.  Homemade blueberry muffins are outstanding.  My NYC travel pal put on weight eating these muffins each morning.  Each day featured a different egg dish such as a baked frittata.

It's only a 3-4 minute ride from the forested serenity of the B&B into downtown Boothbay Harbor with its shops and waterfront views. There's no doubt that I would stop at this B&B the next time I am traveling in Maine.



Maine Hospitality

After traveling to a number of locales (city and country) all around New England and beyond over several decades, this is one we enjoy over and over again.  Spotlessly clean inside and maintained so well outside, with flowers everywhere, this is a reliably comfortable place to stay where you get more than your money's worth.  Rooms are spacious and particularly perfect if you have any inclination toward claustrophobia with glass doors and porches overlooking gardens and fields.  The breakfast is fresh, tasty, varied; the hosts friendly and helpful.  We have also stayed in-town at Boothbay Harbor, but prefer the Howard House's central position making visits to all areas of the Boothbay region easier.  Boothbay is a beautiful place to visit and Howard House makes the visit all that more enjoyable.

Favorite East Coast Place to Stay

We have stayed here so many times, and we look forward to it each year.  Ginny and Jim are the most wonderful hosts — ready to give recommendations for restaurants and what to do in the immediate area and beyond.  

The property is beautiful— so many flowers even early in the season.  It is also located outside the very busy Boothbay Harbor.  Just a wonderful quiet setting.

The rooms are clean and spacious with comfortable beds.  I believe that most people we meet here are return visitors.

Breakfast is such a treat!  There was a delicious egg dish each day, along with a beautiful fruit tray, and the most tasty blueberry muffins and lemon poppyseed muffins and other wonderful treats that come from the kitchen.  Also cereal, toast, juice and coffee.  

We look forward to returning next year!


Always a Treat

As always, we stayed at Howard House during our time in Boothbay.  We have been coming to this beautiful lodge for over 20 years and, each time we stay here, we are amazed by the beautiful grounds, spotless rooms, and delicious breakfasts.  Ginny and Jim are wonderful hosts and very knowledgeable about the area. We are counting down the days until we return in September.
