We had a wonderful stay at the College Club of Boston. Its location was absolutely perfect, conveniently situated for exploring the city. The rooms were not only comfortable but also well-appointed, exceeding our expectations. What stood out the most, however, was the incredibly friendly staff. They went above and beyond to make our stay enjoyable and memorable. We highly recommend the College Club of Boston for its excellent accommodations, prime location, and outstanding service.

Fantastic Stay at the College Club of Boston

My wife and I stayed at the College Club for four nights in October 2023.  It's an interesting old building.   We had one of the rooms with the ensuite bathrooms.   The room was large and quite clean, but the bathroom was a bit worn in a few places.   The room had two full beds, not a queen or a king.

Our room opened onto an alley in the back, and unfortunately it seemed that most days garbage trucks worked their way down this alley starting very early in the morning, like 5:30 AM, and made a lot of racket.   The room has a white noise machine that we used, which was helpful, but not much could cover that noise up.  I'm not aware of how rooms on the front of the building towards Commonwealth Avenue might be for sound.

Breakfasts are continental and adequate - yogurt, croissants, hard boiled eggs, juice - nice enough, but if you want a hot served breakfast, this is probably not the place for you.

Still, for us, these were minor issues, and the historic nature of the building and the room, along with the excellent location, made our stay enjoyable.  You are only a short walk away from the Public Garden, the Common, Beacon Hill, and the Freedom Trail.   We would stay again if in Boston.

Historic Building in an Excellent Location

I had the double bed guest room with private bath. The hotel is very elegant and Victorian. Bed was comfortable and the room and bathroom was clean. The GM was very accommodating when asked if I could stay an extra hour. She gave me tips on places nearby to visit such as Trinity Church and Boston Public Garden. They include a continental breakfast which was nice with a variety of juices, coffee, fruits, and pastries. They had wifi which was great because the rooms have no TV and there may be a reason for that but with wifi I was able to watch on Hulu my favorite shows. This is the main reason why they didn’t get a full 5 stars but nevertheless, this is a great bargain to start if you want something elegant, Bostonian, and in the heart of Boston without all the noise. 

If you love to stay in a Victorian style B&B, this is the place!

What a perfect way to spend two nights in Boston:  a large, beautifully appointed room in a grand old townhome within walking distance of the Common and surrounded by nearby restaurants of all types. 

A great breakfast spread every morning and friendly, helpful staff make the College Club a place that we’ll return to anytime we visit Boston.

A unique Boston experience

This is probably the only affordable accommodation in the BackBay area.  It's like staying with your great-great-aunt, if your great-great-aunt had been a Boston bluestocking.   It's not luxurious, but it's reasonably comfortable for a short stay.  Some rooms share bathrooms (the Club supplies robes and shower caddies).  The friendly staff kindly provided me with a toothbrush when I realized I had forgotten mine (but there is no conditioner in the showers, so bring your own if you need it).

There's a nice continental b'fast, and the dining room is open 24/7, to hang out, to bring back take-out food, etc.  There's a fridge for guests to store food.

The best thing is the location--half a block from the Garden, convenient to Emerson College, and a block from Newbury Street, where you can spend all the money you saved by staying at the Club.

My one complaint is that it was quite warm when I stayed there and the room was overly warm and stuffy.  There is a small freestanding a/c, but it was pretty useless.

Shabby chic, affordable B&B in Back Bay

I stayed in Sept 2022.
I would not recommend this place to anyone unless it has been totally renovated!!
The furniture and bedding was awful! I have photos to prove it. 

It is not worth your money. The breakfast was substandard! The manager was rude.
Yes some of my money was refunded! However, the experience spoiled my stay!

Do not stay here!

Had a wonderful stay here, definitely recommend! Staff is super helpful and friendly. Rooms are big and remind of a bygone epoch. Very nice location too. Learned that Commonwealth Ave was designed as Boston’s Champs-Élysées, it is very nice. Went to look at Boston Public Library and Trinity church - walking distance.

Nice stay!

The old brownstone is lovely and situated right near the public gardens. I booked a lower-priced queen room with a shared bathroom. I never saw anyone else using the bathroom which was conveniently located just down the hallway. If you're after a pristine room, this isn't the place for you. Lampshades are a bit stained, carpeting is worn and little things like the towel rack and hot/cold water handle in the shower were loose or broken. I didn't get the sense that the proprietor really cares much about details. For instance the wardrobe in my room had a motley assortment of plastic hangars that felt more goodwill than a nice BandB. Similarly the bookcase had dozens of books that were old, dusty and rather than being nice additions, just felt like they were dumped there. Oddly, the book on top of one stack was on masturbation. Also there various items: a side table, a lectern and other various pieces of furniture stored awkwardly at the top of the stairway in the hall.

I had a room that looked out on Commenwealth Avenue. Although there was a newer double-pane window, it had an in-window a/c unit which meant there was lots of street noise. Fortunately I'm a heavy sleeper and this didn't bother me, but if it concerns you make sure you get a room away from the traffic. Also the floors creak loudly and I could hear the conversation in the adjacent room rather clearly so if you're after acoustical privacy, be forewarned.

The continental breakfast was lovely. I appreciated having Greek yogurt, fresh fruit and croissants. The woman in charge of the breakfast room was very professional and kind.

I felt like the owners could take as little as $2000 and make minor repairs/improvements that would spruce the place up. As I said in my review title, it was still a good value given the location and the place has its charm. I was just there for one night and it served my purposes well.

Great location, good value but run down

Perfect tucked away quiet hidden gem next to Downtown Boston. Near Copley, Newbury St, Boston Gardens, Boston Common and Hynes Convention Center. Closest train stop is Arlington on the Green Line. Vintage New England decor. Friendly staff only place I found with solo guest rooms! Great affordable business trip! New favorite place to stay!

Hidden Vintage Boston Gem

This place is fantastic ! The atmosphere, the location, the size of the room, the furniture, it's perfect ! Everything is mzde with such great taste, respecting the spirit of the place in the past. The room with a bathroom is so cool I could have stayed all day.
