The room was terrific:  upscale "cabin-like," with a fireplace and beautiful four-poster bed.  Wonderful, peaceful view of woodlands and mountain range from our balcony.  ... Now the gripes ~ Minimal staffing:  Even after 4 pm, I had to phone call for someone to issue our key and check us in. They were courteous, just not very "present."  No one to help with uncovering the hot tub for you; no one to refill the eggs and coffee at breakfast the next morning.  No ice available for your room, barely any ice in the "common kitchen" freezer.  Yes, I realize it's listed as a "hostel," but for the rate charged there should be more staff to keep up a level of excellence.

Beautiful and enjoyable but not enough "personal touch."

After reading some amazing reviews of the Bivvi Hostel we had really high expectations that were sadly not met. 

Welcome - Not great. 

Accommodation -  We had a king room,  which was OK but very dark - even with the lights on, there was no way I could read my book! The bed was comfortable.
The door out onto the balcony ( a grand title for a very small space!)  looked like someone had tried to break in.
The main complaint we had was that the toilet cistern in our bathroom kept 'over running' and would not stop - it was noisy. We brought this to the attention of Russell who said that there were a number of jobs that needed looking at and he would see what he could do.  Nothing was done so we brought it to his attention again later in the evening. He said he didn't know what to do do and maybe he could give us some ear plugs!!
Had we actually been offered them I would have accepted as the noise from the toilet all night was annoying.
We didn't see a member of staff again before we checked out.

Shared areas - Looked nice - especially if you were travelling as a family/group. Lovely fire place if visiting in the ski season.

Breakfast - Ok. Help yourself - english muffins, scrambled eggs and hash, coffee etc 

Price - The Bivvi provides budget accommodation but with mid-range prices. I guess this is a reflection of the area.

One night was OK

Were bicycling thru breckenridge and looking for a place to stay for a night. Since there was no place to camp, and the hotels are crazy expensive, one of the bike shops in town said some other riders had stayed there. We figured we would give it a try. The good. The place is gorgeous,we were shocked how nice. A buffet breakfest in the morning,a hot tub on the deck overlooking breckenridge,a very nice lady at front desk. There located on the far end of town,but there is a bus stop right in front of the place that will take you into town. Also the room had our own bathroom.. The bad was we were told the only beds left were the top to bunk beds,she did ask if we minded climbing up to them. We thought no problem, but there wasn,t a ladder, you literally had to climb up the back of the beds to the 3rd one up. While it wasn't there fault ,one of the other guest's had to much to drink and pucked in the sink. while a very nice place and for the price, The wife did a 3,000 mile bicycle trip,so she's pretty hardy. but between climbing uo to bunk and sharing a room with 4 men who were strangers this will probaly be our last time in a hostel.

"The good, the bad, and the ugly"

Be careful canceling your reservation in this location, it will result  in a non refundable 25% fee even if you choose “free cancelation" on your reservation. Unfortunately, I was forced to cancel 2 days after reservations were made due to a family emergency, Well to my surprise I was charged $100 (25%) nonrefundable for cancelling 2 WEEKS PRIOR to my trip. I called the property to inquire about my charges and spoke to some rude man  who denied the charges and that I needed to contact booking.com,  so i contacted Booking.com and according to them they tried to negotiate with property management with no success which is total BS from both hotel and booking.com. 

Dont waste your time!

This place was terrible. No AC in room. No drink machine anywhere to be found. Not what it is represented to be in photos. We made reservations based on reviews and photos. Price was more than big name hotels in Breckenridge.

Not what we expected from photos shown

If you do not mind staying in a run down, musky smelling, dirty, no A/C, No refrigerator other than sharing one In The lobby then these accommodations are for you-!-  The way this establishment was portrayed in what I thought I was purchasing was two different things. I was in total shock when we went to our rooms. Everything was all rundown I did not even want to sit down on the bed much less sleep than it. Like I stated, if you can look past what I have verbalize about this establishment then this  place for you.

Nightmare on Elm Street

My husband and I stayed here for one night and absolutely fell in love with this place.  The manager was extremely attentive, friendly, and helpful.  The attention to the little details made a big difference and made us feel as if we were staying with family.  The freshly made breakfasts were amazing, the fire was always going, the hot tub and fire pit looked great, and the location was perfect.  We would most definitely go back and now want to try the Telluride location next!

Wonderful!!

Place just isn’t what it seems. No ac which would’ve been nice on hot nights. No fridge/microwave in the hot tub suite. I don’t wanna put my food in the refrigerator with random peoples food. Hot tub buttons are cut up and doesn’t even light up. Lighting is horrible in the room. Shower is to small to even turn around in. Shampoo/conditioner bottles in our room were pre used before we got in the room. Shower head is leaking everywhere. Someone’s water bottle was in the closet half drank. The only positive point of this whole experience was the nice lady making sure we had fresh towels she deserves a raise. Would’ve been nice to of known what we were gonna have to do without before we got here any other hotel would at least have a mini fridge and microwave

Terrible experience

The Bivvi hostel has a ton a great reviews but our experience was unpleasant to say the least. The rooms are very cold and although the hostel promises breakfast, the staff doesn't want to give you any. The first day we were here, there was a continental breakfast, however, it seems the staff doesn't want anyone to have breakfast anymore. You have to ask the guy at reception if you can have a banana. If he's in a good mood he just might give you one. The Bivvi is the perfect name for this place because staying here is just like sleeping in a bivi sack. It's cold, damp, dirty, and you are going to be uncomfortable.

The Bivvi far exceeded our expectations. Awesome place with great vibes. It was our first time in Colorado and we had the best time. Russell was absolutely the best host all around. Seemed like everytime I needed something he was on top of it. He went above and beyond to make sure our stay was comfortable. It's the best hostel I've experienced for the cost. I picked this place for their fresh breakfast which included fresh fruit, orange juice, coffee, egg sandwiches/ burritos.
The place has great amenities like a hot tub outside and fire pit - not to mention the hot tub inside our room! Thank you Bivii and Russel for an awesome stay!
