We were filming in the area and were looking for a hotel to house of crew for the week and Timberline was ideal.  The location is very central, the staff incredibly accommodating, and the rooms - especially the two back ones - worked perfectly for our production needs.   There's also a nice garden area where we could have lunch and a porch with rocking chairs.   The lodge is also walking distance to a lake and several shops and stores.

Fantastic for film crews or families.

Quaint lodge with rustic charm!  We had 2 comfy queen beds and a single in our room too!  The space was large enough for 4 women and all their STUFF!  lol. We called to make a reservation and the clerk was a bit snippy saying they closed at 9 pm., however, after telling her we’d go somewhere else she changed her tune a little and found us this room. She was much more pleasant in person.  This is a small roadside lodge with no ice machine or breakfast offered but well worth the stay!

Awesome Roadside Lodge

This place looks nice enough, but if you value sleep, don't stay here.  It is right alongside the highway and you can hear every single car and truck that drives by.  And not just a little bit, but loudly.  The beds are hard and uncomfortable.  The shower is awful.  The wifi is non-existent.  And to top it off, there was a note that says if you dirty any towels with makeup or dirty feet, they will charge you.  We had a spill of hot chocolate and we used a towel to clean it up.  The lady at the front desk wanted an explanation why we didn't get a cleaning cloth from her even though the office isn't open until 10:00 a.m.

Do yourself a favor, find someplace else to stay.

No sleep possible here

First of all, because we have a young kid, we booked a room with a wall fireplace and a tub, instead of a free standing fireplace and a shower. However, when we checked in, the lady gave us a room with a free standing fireplace and shower. At the end, eventually she helped us change the room. I do appreciate her help but please do not be so upset. Additionally, a 35” or 40” TV is not a big TV as described in the room details. By the way, black comforter cover does look dirty. Maybe, the black linen might make the hairs and dust more clearer and increase the contrast? The traffic is a little noisy. At the end, I do like the wood wall. The bathroom looks clean.

Have some issues

We recently purchased a home in Arnold.  We went up there on a Friday with 2 U-haul trailers full of stuff. But, due  to a hiccup in the process we were not able to move in until Monday and had to find a place to stay over the weekend.  The owner was sweet and accommodating to our 2 families.  She set up in the "family suites" with doors facing each other so we could all be close and gave us information on what to do with our kids.  We had a great time at White Pines Lake just a mile or so down the road from the hotel.  In addition, we enjoyed time out in the courtyard chatting and hanging out.

Unexpected stay turned out to be a blessing

We were purchasing a house in Arnold with another couple and our 4 children and had some unexpected delays taking possession of the home. We were effectively homeless for 3 nights and needed a place to stay quick! Colleen, the owner of the lodge, welcomed us in and took us on a personal tour of the rooms to allow us to select the ones we wanted.  She was very accommodating and chatted about the area and gave us some priceless information regarding a local public access Lake we could take our children to the next day to keep them occupied. The rooms were nice and clean and big enough to accommodate our families comfortably. We SO appreciate this place and we will refer any family who comes up to visit us if they need a place to stay.

Unexpected layover with nowhere to stay!

Really enjoyed our stay at the lodge. Loved the wrap around porches with available rocking chairs for spending some relaxing time outside. Rooms were comfortable and clean. I did find it odd that the front office staff was not wearing face masks, however we were. The lodge is a great location to the Calaveras Big Trees state park which is were we spent our time. Beautiful park. I would recommend staying here.

Cute lodge, big rooms

Super surprised to see that there was even 1 not so nice review for the timberline, because my experience was wonderful. I stayed here while visiting some family and the area is so beautiful. The lodge is close to the main road so very easy to find and I can tell it’s been recently updated. Everything was immaculate in my room. I am the type of person to notice any unwanted little hairs and there wasn’t one single hair 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻 The beds were so comfy with plenty of blankets and the cutest little fireplace kept us so nice and toasty. It was very calm and quiet and I loved going outside my room in the morning to look at the gorgeous trees covered in snow. The outside space around the lodge is perfect for big family gatherings too. You are pretty close to everything you would want to go to, so the location is great. Will definitely stay here every time I visit Arnold!

I’m super picky with hotels, and I loved this one!

There were few choices since Murphy’s had no vacancies. I choose the Timberline Lodge because it had availability.  I looked at several rooms before choosing one.  The receptionist was kind and showed me several of the rooms I could choose from.  

All rooms are very minimal, with a log cabin feel.  They are small and do not have any type of seating area, except for a small table and maybe two chairs if you are lucky.  They do have a small fridge and coffee in the room.

The beds are old and uncomfortable, you can hardly get any TV stations on the tele.  The worst part was you could actually hear the full conversation of the individuals in the rooms next to yours.  I went outside first, thinking they were outside my window and I was going to ask them if they needed assistance. However, upon going outside and looking around I realized it was the room adjacent to mine. To my shock, I could hear their entire conversation and there was nothing I could do.  I couldn’t knock on their door and say, excuse me can you please not talk in your room....

I think this place is a big skip on the hotel/motel offerings in Arnold.

You can Hear your Neighbors Conversation through the Walls

I wish I could leave a ZERO. This place has absolutely the worst possible customer service I have ever encountered, even traveling 3rd world countries.  

I made a reservation. Never received ANY confirmation that the reservation was made. Never received any reminders. When I went to look up my reservation, I did not locate it.  I tried to call - no answer.  I booked another place, nearby, thinking I may have not finalized the reservation.

I saw a change show up on my credit card, tried to call to see if we can work something out.  I was told by a very rude Owner that nothing can be done and the mistake was mine.

The hotel never called me to inquire why I did not show up for my stay..

I would not use this place.  Local AirBnBs are WAY better - cheaper, better amenities, and MUCH better service.
