We stayed at the wonderful Sparrow Cottage 1 in August 2022. Hubby and I stayed in the primary bedroom downstairs and each of our teenage kids brought a friend and stayed upstairs - two boys in one room and two girls in the other with a shared bathroom in between. If you have a similar situation, be sure to ask in advance to make sure those rooms' beds are split into twins, otherwise, they'll be pushed together as a king. 

The cottage is handsomely furnished and has everything you need for a week or a weekend - kitchen, washing machine and dryer, TV and a nice deck. The only bummer was that we were unable to use the BBQ grill on the deck - apparently the on-deck grill is not allowed anymore by the fire marshal. No matter, we used the kitchen to make our meals. 

The beach access is across the street. It's just a small little beach with gravelly rocks, we just walked up and down one evening, didn't really hang out there. The cottage is also on the main road, so it does get noisy with traffic. However, it is nice and quiet while sitting on the deck for a lovely morning coffee.

You do have to drive like, 10 minutes to Tahoe City for restaurants and such, but the cottage was so nice, we didn't mind just hanging out and eating in. It was a very lovely stay and I can imagine staying there in the winter, using the fireplace, and going to the Homewood ski area right next door. I highly recommend, any time of the year!



Great Cottage, Inside and Out!

My family rented the 3 bedroom Sparrow cottage at Cedar Crest over the 4th of July weekend. The day before arrival they called to inform us that our refrigerator was broken and let us know we could either move to a different cottage or they would move in a dorm sized fridge for us. I appreciated the call and that they check things like that before your stay. They also gave us a discount for the inconvenience! The cottage was well equipped with everything you need. Pots and pans, cups , plates , silverware , toiletries . All the sinks had liquid soap and lotions which I appreciated. It was very spacious, nice and clean. We loved opening all the windows to let the fresh cool air in. It was a perfect location on the west shore with a beautiful bike/ walking trail right outside the cottage that went all along the lake. It was close to some really good restaurants ( Firesign, WestShore Cafe and the Tahoe bakery.) The only drawbacks to our stay were that our particular cottage was the closest to a busy road . It was pretty noisy when you had the windows open , but didn’t bother you when they were closed. The WiFi did not work at all during our stay. They reset the internet several times but it never worked . The cell phone reception is terrible in the area so it was difficult to look up trails, directions, activities etc without WiFi. You couldn’t get any reception at all if you were downstairs . Also, if you were In the bedroom downstairs you heard a lot of noise from the bedroom above you . Overall, it was a great stay with very accommodating  and responsive hosts . The cottages are beautiful and in a great location . We would stay here again but would make sure the WiFi was fixed before booking.

Relaxing Getaway

Cedar Crest Cottages is a small collection of individual housing cottages in Homewood, CA on Lake Tahoe.  The hotel is located just off main road W Lake Boulevard (Route 89).  It is literally a pull into the driveway off the road and each cottage has its own parking space. This makes for great travel planning as this main road will take you to all of the hotspots (Emerald Bay, etc.) The Homewood ski resort is a 1 minute drive south and Tahoe City is a 10 minute drive north. Each cottage is locked through a security system that allows only those with room cards to enter.  Also, the managers of the cottages stay on site and have an office as well for easy access any time of the day.  The lake is a 1 minute walk across the road, where you can view the sunset/sunrise on a small stretch of private beach. You could also access a variety of trails by foot, and the popular ones were a short car ride away.

One of the main pros to Cedar Crest was the organization. The staff had everything written out on one sheet and they also went over all of this during the into tour.  They were very welcoming and personable; we visited their office various times throughout our stay. We stayed in the Osprey cottage and it was the perfect size for two people.  The amenities included washer/dryer, full kitchen, spacious living room with couch/chair/TV, and even a bath and a half.  This luxury is often overlooked, but awesome when two people can occupy separate restrooms.  All rooms were incredibly clean and made you feel like this cottage was prepared just for you.

 +The out door seating in the front and back of the cottage allowed for peaceful morning coffee.  The intangibles make your stay worth remembering.

+Assisted with any questions we had whether it be by phone or a quick visit to the on-site office.  Did not intrude on our stay at all.

A Place to Call Home in Tahoe

this is a hidden gem in the tahoe area. the fireplace, large dining room table, well-furnished/decorated in simple and modern style. the fire pit is on 5-10pm. you're in the midst of some tasty spots for eating. close to eagle rock trail and rubicon trail. close to grocery store as well which comes in handy w full kitchen. the full sized washer/dryer are a real gem. family-owned. easy checkout process that doesn't involve you doing all the laundry. 

well-appointed, comfortable 

We did a 3 week road trip around California and this was, without a doubt, the best place we stayed. Superb location, gorgeous accommodation and even made new friends around the firepit. When we talk about the best parts of our holiday Cedar Crest is always mentioned. We loved it.

Beyond expectations

The woodpecker cottage (a two-bedroom) was perfect for my husband, daughter, son-in-law and me for four wonderful, peaceful days of hiking in the Tahoe area in September. All the positive comments in other reviews are well-deserved. The rooms are stylish yet cozy and welcoming, and the landscaping around the cottages is exceptional. We all enjoyed preparing meals in the full size kitchen and eating together at the family-sized dining table. Every convenience is provided. Arriving after 10 days on the road, I especially appreciated the full-size washer and dryer. All the design details, from layout to furnishings, are well thought out. If we are ever in the area again, we will definitely return to the Cedar Crest Cottages.

Beautiful, comfortable, flawless cottages

From the moment we arrived we felt welcomed, relaxed, and encouraged to vacation. Christopher was a gem: so helpful, solicitous and friendly without being intrusive.  The cottage was spectacular and perfect for our multiple age ranges party of 6. Plenty of room, everything we needed, and perfectly appointed. It really is lovely and comfortable. We loved the fireside evenings and special touches like beach chairs and towels to borrow. Don’t hesitate to stay here. It really is close to all on the peaceful west shore. 

Absolutely Perfect for our Group

My family and I stayed at Cedar Crest Cottages the weekend of June 22nd for a wedding and we couln't have been happier with the entire experience!  The entire staff were welcoming and treated us like guests in their own home. We loved our cottage - it was beautiful and stylish, yet comfortable and roomy with everything we needed for four of us. Other family members had a nearby cottage so we pooled our resources and had a BBQ by the fire pit one night. Chris and Josh and the entire staff were so accommodating. They supplied BBQ tools, and everything we could have needed. Our youngest daughter had a knee injury and they even supplied a wheelchair for her.  We can't recommend Cedar Crest Cottages enough! Thank you for your hospitality!

We felt like family!

My husband and I had the pleasure of staying at Cedar Crest Cottages over the weekend. This place is a true gem! The cottage was very comfortable, clean and the interior design was super stylish! From the moment we checked in, we felt very welcomed and very much at home. Not to mention, Cedar Crest is family owned and operated, which we loved! We didn't have to deal with all the noise and stuffiness of a corporate hotel. Our stay felt very intimate and low key. We can't wait to book our next trip back!

The best place!

Pros:
Super cute and fully equipped with all the things you need to cook meals or make a getaway convenient. We flew into Reno and immediately grabbed our car and headed to Trader Joe’s and Whole Foods before driving to the lake.

I emailed early and requested an early check in and that was not problem as it’s low season and they were not full. The property was clean and provided a quiet and relaxing experience.

Cons: 
It’s a family owned property and it’s not corporate like at all and so I expected more of a personality to this place and it was so bland. It was our 5th Wedding Anniversary and there was no mention or anything special.. I mean the checker at Trader Joe’s bought us flowers when I mentioned it?

Anyway it’s not a big deal but they could up the game a bit in the hospitality area!! 

I would stay here again with a group but other than that I am going head over to the Ritz Carlton next time.
