Thunderbird is adjacent Gateway, but managed by the legit duo of Andy and his wife. Parking is ample though a little crowded in Saturday’s. Bed size is awesome, and amenities are more than adequate for a travelers needs. The little mart nearby is perfectly located for minor pick ups and quick dinners. Quiet and endearing.

Ideal and quaint

The room had been remodeled and the bed was very comfortable.  A nice staff that is friendly and helpful and treats people very well!  Much remodeling has been done in the room and bathroom, too!  Look forward to returning!

A Good Motel

The Gateway and Thunderbird Motels are managed by a very hospitable Indian couple Andy and Elya. It has been recently remodeled complete with upgraded bathrooms, new flooring, suitcase racks, etc.  The best part for me was that the room was very very clean.  Also, it was increadibly quiet, no road traffic noise! These people really take care of you. I will come here again for sure.

Great Value - Reasonable and Very Very Clean!

This is a good basic motel; nothing fantastic about it but it was clean, had good wifi, and has been remodeled.  The towels are thin and scratchy, the packaged bars of soap were tiny, but it has both a microwave and a refrigerator, so that was convenient.  The TV has some good channels and was watchable but some channels were fuzzy.  I just needed a simple place with a comfortable bed for a couple nights and this fit the bill.  Good for a romantic weekend away?  No.  Good for something close to the aquarium?  Yes.

Good Basic Motel

Stayed to visit my son who is working at Pebble Beach. Hotel in a good location for Monterey, Cannery Row, 17 mile drive, etc. Room nothing special, not even a dresser. But bed was fairly comfortable, bathroom was clean. Stayed two nights. Breakfast was coffee/juice and a small piece of “cake” I guess. Too expensive for what you get but then again, your on Monterey Peninsula and on that scale it’s reasonable. 

Here for Pebble Beach

This is a huge value.  You will not find any other king room in the Monterey Peninsula that offers this level ofcleanliness,  spacious size and amenities. We paid under $45.00. In the morning there is a complimentary coffee,  cookie,  muffin pastry room. This is a very small, family run owned and operated, well maintained property.  The small family takes great pride in this establishment. In a 2 nite stay we found this motel to be expeditious at check in,  very clean inside the room and in the main hallways and super peacefully quiet between 9pm and 9am. We walked to the Del Monte beach from this motel in about 10 minutes. We are definitely returning here,  it is a tremendous value and next to almost every major golf course and nice restaurant on the bay. Stay here without regret. No pool or pets allowed,  but the next door motel allows pets and their is a public community pool in Seaside 3 minutes away.  Jann and John. 

Great value,  nice amenities, 5 stars. 

Although the motel appears to have recently been remodeled, there are a lot of negatives. There was no suitcase rack and I had to put my suitcase on a chair.  The towels were wafer thin and consisted of entirely of pills. The ice machine was inoperable and appears to have been so for a long time. The wifi was nonexistent and I was never able to get a signal that I could use. When I asked for an iron and ironing board, I got an ancient iron that leaked completely and ironing board was a 2.5 foot tabletop version that was partly broken and was impossible to iron a shirt. The owners are cheapskates and do not meet the basic standards that American motels are expected to provide their customers. 

Nickle and Dime Operation

This is an older motel, with some defects. The beds were quite hard. The carpet in our room did not appear to have been vacuumed or cleaned for a very long time. That’s probably because ours was a room on the second floor with steep stairs. There were no other rooms At the top of the stairs, so a cleaner would have to lug cleaning supplies and a vacuum up steep narrow stairs. And I don’t think that it had been done for an extremely long period of time. Perhaps one of the reasons that California Is in a drought is that it takes forever for the hot water to arrive. The tap had to run for a couple of minutes to even get close to warm.

The breakfast consisted of muffins cut in quarters. There were no paper plates. There is coffee, but no water or juice and no fruit. There were four chairs in a very tiny room. Perhaps there are nicer rooms that have been remodeled, but we still paid the fairly high price for a pretty run down room.

Not clean, almost decent price

Motel that is about 10 minutes driving from Monterey aquarium.
The room is OK in size but the maintenance seems not that good. Moreover the receptionist is one of the rudest people we ever met.
We stayed one night and arrived quiet late so we didn't experienced the place too much.

On Booking you find it with the name Gateway Lodge but the address matches. Indian management. In the first room there was hair on the sheets of both beds under the disputable blankets. I asked to change the room but the other one was not better either: burning blankets, blankets not even well drawn and a color far from white. We think in both rooms the underwear had not been changed. We asked and got the refund and we ran away. All for the modest figure of 287 euros for a night in a room with two queen beds.
