After I booked the room online with a 3rd party, after unsuccessfully trying to contact somebody by phone, I received 12 emails within an hour  Half seemed to be duplicates.

The room was inexpensive, but the “management” company charged $20 for a cleaning fee for a 250 sq foot room for 1 night.  (We always leave at least a $5 tip for housekeeping, but couldn’t stomach that after paying the cleaning fee.). The envelope in the room requesting a tip is almost offensive.

The room was mostly clean, although our feet were dirty after walking barefoot on the floor.  The bed was comfortable.  The bathroom was huge (almost the same size as the room), and well-appointed.  It had a modern, massive shower.  There was no place to put any luggage, nor any chairs in the room.  We brought in a chair from outside.  The property is in a very pretty area.  The reviews mentioned a local BBQ restaurant and burger joint.  Both were closed (may be open on weekends?).  The room was accurately portrayed in the photos.  We booked the last one available that had a queen bed, and full bunk with twin on top.  There was very little room to get around the beds, and a tight squeeze between the bed and bathroom.  If you had 3 people needing a bed and were on a budget, room 11 would be great.  It did have a small fridge, microwave, hairdryer, wall AC unit, and wall heat unit.  Table and 4 chairs outside were clean.  Could hear the traffic outside, but did not bother us.

Note to managers:  put at least one chair in the room.  And, a corner table and some hooks for luggage.  The wheels at the base of the beds are a hazard to one’s toes.

Would be good for some

The outside looks pretty run down, but once inside the room, it was heaven.  Everything was brand new and sparkling clean.  The only downside was there wasn't much room for our luggage and there was no place to hang out jackets.  The Wi-Fi was spotty at best.  Overall I would definitely stay here again.  The price was great.

Hidden Gem.  Don't let the outside fool you.

We chose the West Walker Motel due to it's location and pricepoint to other options around Bridgepoint/Lee Vining/Mono Lake. We didn't need much, we just needed a place to sleep as we were visiting parks all day. Check-In was very quick and the women was very polite and told us about dinner options. Normally, there is a BBQ joint across the street that they recommend, but it was closed the day we were there. But they recommended a burger joint that was walking distance. The town is very small, so eating options were limited, and things seem to close around 8PM. Our room was very cute, and was decked out in the theme of AUSTRALIA (i think room #6), which was ironic, as I was born there! It was meant to be! Also at check in, they give you some fresh locally made soap, which was nice & unique. Everything met our standard, the AC worked great, the fridge and microwave met our needs, the shower was warm and had great pressure. Outlet use is limited. But again, we know that booking older mom & pop motels, and we always travel with a 3-outlet belkin travel charger and we make due just fine. There is no ice machine on the premise, but the woman at the front desk was nice enough to give me ziploc bag of ice for some beverages, which is all we needed. It was very quiet, most, if not all the rooms were booked by the amount of cars, but we never really heard anyone. We slept great, and left around 6AM without issue.

Amazingly cute, comfortable, and amazing price!

We stayed at the West Walker Motel during a recent visit to the ghost town of Bodie.  The owners, Pam and Chris, were extremely nice and helpful. Both told us about interesting things to see and do in the area and even loaned us the use of the lawn chair for our evening in Bodie.  The rooms were nice, clean and comfortable and reminded me of stays with my parents at mom and pop motels in the 1960's.  There is no continental breakfast available, so bring in your own snacks or breakfast bars.  There is a nice (but expensive) BBQ restaurant across the street for lunch or dinner.  I would highly recommend a stay at the West Walker Motel and hope to be back again next year for Bodie Nights!  If so, I'll be sure to contact this motel for availability!  It's not as close to Bodie as Bridgeport but, well worth the extra few minutes drive.

Nice older motel

We stayed overnight in this small motel where the owner did everything  possible to make us feel comfortable. However our room was heated by a gas fire which made us nervous about the fumes given off during the night. We turned the heating off and woke up to temperatures of 40degrees. Some modernization would make this a lovely place to stay.

Nice private motel,but....

My cozy Route 66 themed room was spotlessly clean.  I was exhausted and slept so well at the West Walker motel.  It was nice to have the outdoor space to relax and enjoy a cup of coffee.  Great BBQ across the street as well.  I'd come back any time.

A perfect blast from the past

We were pleasantly surprised with how nice our room was. We opted for a room with a kitchenette. It was small, but it had everything we needed. It was clean and comfortable. Checking in was easy. We really enjoyed our stay.

Nice Clean and Cozy

Spent a night in their suite on Labor day weekend in US-395. This is not far away from Mono lake, Mammoth lake, other several quaint lakes/hikes, Ghost town, Yosemite, Lake Tahoe, Reno (all should be anywhere between 30 mins to 90 mins of driving time) .The suite has a nice small kitchen/sitting area apart from bedroom and bathroom so was spacious, the feel is bit 1980s and retro but very clean and loaded rooms with 2 Air conditioners and 2 heaters, a small sitting area outside as well so was happy with the suite. Yes this is not Fairmont resort but only a motel but felt homely , it is next to Hwy 395 but did not heard any road noise at least in our rooms. The owner and staff were very approachable and helpful. There is a barbecue bar/burger place/BF place/grocery walkable from this hotel along with constant Highway patrol in Hwy 395 so speeders beware !  No negatives in this place except you cannot take a long hot water bath as after a bit of time, it fizzles out to cold water but nothing to worry for a normal bath. Overall, a very good place to stay

Recommended place to stay in  US-395

I’m on a three week road trip, trying to keep it affordable every night, but sometimes the older motels are just too scary to take a chance. This place is one of many wonderful exceptions. It’s old, it’s quirky, but clean and friendly and comfortable. One of the best nights I’ve had so far.

A perfect little place

We stopped here for one night on route from Tahoe to Bodie/Mono. As long as your expectations aren’t enormous it’s perfectly fine and the rooms are a good size. It’s really useful to have kitchen facilities and the little store down the road is an experience in itself. Checking was friendly and helpful, and having air con is a big plus. It wasn’t dirty at all, but our room could just have done with a bit of freshening up. I’d stay again and it’s on the better end of average.
