Very clean and nice with a table and two chairs, beautiful wood paneling. BUT, this motel is very recently under new ownership.  The management/owner was very disinterested and not helpful at all.  I don't think the place will stay so nice based on their attitude.  For instance, our curtain was stuck on the pole and wouldn't open properly, nor close on the side enough to prevent people from seeing in.  It had been jerry-rigged somehow.   Room is cooled with a swamp cooler, which is ok but don't expect AC, though we didn't need it. There's a very good heater in the room.  It's a simple room, but the price is very fair accordingly.   However, because of the new owner's attitude, I don't expect the place will have the same quality in a year or so.

Nice for Now...

The motel is quiet, cozy, clean with a friendly environment. We appreciated the owners reaching out to us on the day of check-in by email to tell us that both restaurants in town were closed that night. The rooms are small but well appointed and the motel seems lovingly cared for

A gem in the eastern Sierra

Quaint, cozy, clean room with friendly knowledgeable staff.   Our room was like a cool 1950s cabin with wifi, coffee maker, and microwave.  Great value and interesting court yard.  Their motto is Come as strangers and leave as friends.  Dinner down the road at Coachwhip was lovely.  I recommend  the fried Cauliflower  and there are lots of meat choices.

Toiyabe Motel is lovely.

We stayed here for one night on a 2 week road trip.  The room was a bit small, but other then that had everything we needed.  Small fridge, coffee maker, shower with good water flow.  The bed was quite comfortable and the wifi worked well.  The location is lovely with hills behind the property and open meadows across the road.  The property is on a fairly busy road, 395, but there is room to walk on the shoulder to a few places to eat close by.  There is a local market that is very well stocked and serves as a hardware store 5 minute walk from the property.  The grounds of the motel are nice, with a central court yard with tables and chairs to sit out and picnic.  The staff was very friendly.  Hard to describe what it is that makes this older, creeky place so special, but basically it has a lot of character and charm that is kept clean and has everything you will need for an enjoyable stay

Older, Classic Motel with Charm

We spent 2 nights here on Aug. 6 + 7th while we were in the area & couldn't have been happier with our stay here, it is a small motel ran by a very nice couple, the room was great, had a small refrigerator & microwave with plenty of room.  It was very hot while we were there & unlike the previous review our swamp cooler(air conditioner) worked great, we left for the day & forgot we had it turned up to high & it was freezing in the room when we got back, we would DEFINITELY stay here again if we are in the area!

We LOVED it!

Older property that is clean and offers a lot for the price.  Microwave, refigerator, toiletries, coffee maker, and chairs for enjoying the view out your window while surrounded by an old-timey wood paneling that darkens the room. The owner and staff were incredibly hospitable and kind. Payment is charged when you arrive.

But I would never stay here during the summer again. The daytime high temps for July 7 and 8, 2021 were in the low 90s which is typical for Walker, CA. While the motel advertises A/C, I think it may have been a swamp cooler. Regardless of the actual type of cooling unit in the room, it was noisy, had to be run all night and never cooled the room. I barely slept and stuck to the sheets. When the 6.0 quake struck on the afternoon of July 8 and the shaking continued on and on, the message was clear: it was time to go even while forfeiting the last night's reservation.

Great value and management, but would not stay here during the summer again.

We loved our stay at the Toiyabe Motel. The proprietors clearly care deeply for this motel and keep it beautiful. The setting is very nice and the room was great with all the amenities one could hope for plus it was really a comfortable and attractive room. The price was very reasonable. The outside seating area is, as another reviewer wrote, "delightful". After a long day of driving this place really was a welcome stop. We shall return!

EVERY MOTEL WISHES THEY WERE LIKE THE TOIYABE MOTEL!

Spent first night on a cross-country trip here, after a nice soak in Grover Hot Springs. Charming room, full wood paneling, spotless. Room is small with 2 beds in it. There is some wind/road noise if that bothers you, didn't me. There's a nice setup for guests traveling in a group to BBQ outside with a full outdoor sink. This is a great find if you miss the classic independent motels. Very fairly priced. BBQ place across the street was great.

Family-owned gem in beautiful country

The amenities in this motel are top notch. There is a refrigerator, microwave, bathtub, large screen tv, nightstands, tissues, table and chairs. There is a delightful outdoor seating area. Parking is directly in front of your room which is very convenient. It was a wonderful stay on a long road trip.

Well appointed small motel

This is a very nice budget motel with accents of a boutique motel added in. Standard modern features in the room such as flat screen TV, wi-fi, mini-fridge and microwave. Room is standard size for motels. Bed and room are modern in decor and comfortable. Very good choice to stay and there is a local hamburger place right across the street for meals. I highly recommend you try out this motel when in need of a place to stay in the area.
