Janis and Peter are consummate hosts.  The inn is deliciously warm and comfortable.  Breakfast was outstanding, starting with the coffee and continuing through the homemade coffeecake, eggs poached in cream, and patiently cooked bacon.  Great stay!

Great stay!

We had a remarkable first stay (of many, hopefully!) at the Camden Maine Stay Inn. Peter and Janis are truly wonderful innkeepers: from their help making dinner reservations when we were running late for check-in to their thoughtful recommendations for seeing the town to their great storytelling over coffee, they were top tier hosts.

As a same-sex couple in our twenties, we don't fall into a very common bed & breakfast demographic, which can be intimidating at times. We never felt that way here, where Peter and Janis made us feel right at home. Be sure to say hi to their friendly dog, Paddy! He is the envy of Camden!

We stayed in the Smith room, and it was lovely all around. The decor was seamless and charming. I look forward to returning to the Smith room and also to trying another room in future.

How have I not mentioned it already--the FOOD! Breakfast was beyond our wildest dreams. We knew from other reviews that we could expect great things, but both mornings of our stay surpassed even our high expectations. A hearty breakfast--that at the same time was not too heavy--was the perfect start to each day of adventure in Camden.

I look forward to returning to the Camden Maine Stay Inn soon, perhaps in another season to see all Maine has to offer. I have no doubt Peter and Janis will make it a warm return.

First class innkeepers--lovely stay

This is a wonderful place;  friendly and beautifully maintained.  It was like being in a living museum filled with beautiful things but not stuffy or pretentious.
The breakfast was lovely, too. I’ve not much more to add except to say, “We’ll be back.”

Wonderful place

My husband and I stayed at this bed-and-breakfast as part of our 25th wedding anniversary trip. We are pretty particular, and I did lots of research before we selected this one. From the curb appeal to the condition of this over 200 year old home, everything was charming and beautiful. Janis and Peter really know what they’re doing and have everything running like clockwork. Numerous cozy and inviting common areas, lots of books to read and places to play games or do puzzles if you so choose, etc. Being that it was winter, and there was actually a lot of snow at the time, we couldn’t really appreciate their beautiful grounds but on the last day of our stay, the greenery was revealed, and it’s really charming and well kept.  We stayed in their Latanza suite on the second floor, our bed was made each day and clean towels as well. I requested a fan which they readily provided. The bed was comfy and had great pillows! Lots of plugs and places to charge things. Fresh cookies in the afternoon courtesy of Peter, coffee and tea are also at your disposal, and the breakfast is just spectacular! Table perfectly set and every attention to detail you could think of. Janis prepares something fresh each morning… starting with fruit, and we had perfectly poached eggs with a homemade cheese sauce the first day, Belgian waffles the next, baked omelette the next, it was amazing.  I told her it was edible art! Which it was. Even the breads were baked fresh, maple syrup local and even the sweet ricotta for atop the waffles made in her kitchen. Location is also very central to downtown and totally walkable. A first class experience all around, we were not disappointed :)

Wonderful in every way!

Jan and Peter are remarkable hosts. Upon arrival, Jan gave us a tour of the common areas -- yes plural. There were a number of such rooms on the first floor, each with an unique history. Our room on the second floor, while small by our choice, had everything we needed, from a comfortable bed, to a good-sized shower, to excellent lighting. After unpacking and moving back to the first floor, we met with Peter who provided us with the needed information on downtown Camden as well as nearby hiking. The breakfast served the following morning was excellent -- featuring French toast with a tasty peach infusion and, of course, the requisite locally-sourced maple syrup. The coffee was perfect. The glassed-in dining room was a beautiful place to dine. 
Unfortunately our time budget limited us to that one-night's stay. Since we had planned a rather long hike after breakfast, and the trailhead was within walking distance, Peter generously let us know we could remain parked at the Inn for as long as we needed -- well after morning checkout. Upon returning to our car that afternoon, still parked at the Inn, Peter greeted us outside and invited us back into the Inn for refreshment.
We regret that we could only stay that one night, due to our time constraints, but are looking forward to another, longer visit during which we hope to day-trip to the some of the nearby coastal islands.

Remarkable Hosts/Wish We Could Have Stayed Longer

We spent 3 great nights at Camden Maine Stay Inn in February in the Huse suite (third floor).  It was very private  with a nice sitting room in addition to the bedroom, a newly remodeled walk in shower and an additional room with a single bed.
Janis and Peter went out of their way to provide us with the history of the inn, local things to do and fabulous breakfasts.  We look forward to returning next winter.

Fabulous Inn and innkeepers!!

The Camden Maine Stay Inn was our first B&B experience, and certainly won’t be our last. Janis and Peter were the ideal Innkeepers; gracious and accommodating at every step. The historic Inn was decorated beautifully and cozy by the fireplace even on the coldest day of the year (ever??). We will be back and suggest you make a visit as well. The ideal B&B experience

Camden Mainstay was perfect for me as a single traveler visiting family in the Camden area. I had a spacious room on the first floor (Dogwood) and I appreciated the ease of grabbing tea from the kitchen whenever I desired...and easy access to the parking lot. Also, with the comfy chairs n my room it was very comfortable to stay in.

Despite the cold winter temps outside, both Peter and Janis were warm and excellent hosts. They are kind, friendly, and easy to converse with - and given that I was the only inn guest for 2 nights - I was made to feel very welcome and at ease. The local information handouts were full of great places to visit, restaurants to try, etc.

Breakfast was just enough - featuring savory and sweet dishes.

I will use this inn again as a home vase in the future!

Excellent gracious inn

We had an aMAINEzing experience at The Maine Stay Inn. Janis and Peter went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and comfortable from the moment we first walked in the door - Their hospitality was absolutely incredible. The inn itself is cute, well maintained, meticulously clean, and within walking distance of charming downtown Camden. Janis served delicious homemade breakfasts each morning and Peter made sure to have hot tea & homemade cookies out waiting for us when we got home each evening. 

We enjoyed great conversations and enjoyed sharing some laughs with Janis & Peter and can’t wait to stay there again in the future! Cannot say enough positive things about our experience at Maine Stay Inn.

My absolute favorite inn in Camden! The rooms are charming and super clean with comfy beds and linens. The breakfasts are scrumptious.  The location is perfect...a short stroll into town yet slightly removed from the hustle and bustle. Beautifully and meticulously maintained gardens to enjoy the mid Coast Maine fresh air. The hosts are really what make this inn so special - charming, accommodating with wonderful ideas to make your Maine vacation a memorable experience. Not to be missed! I will be back
