The DOG friendly room was why we went there, It was a great location, the room was very clean, the grounds were well maintained. The towels and bedding were of good quality,  The Rusty Nail connection was a plus as well.

This hotel falls quite short on value.  For the amount of money you'll spend, you could fly to a nicer hotel in a nicer location, and be ON the beach, not just across the street from it.  There's no elevator here so move-in and move-out will be tedious.  Multiple items needed repair in our room when we arrived.  There's not enough parking for all the rooms they have, so expect to hand someone your keys and go find them again when you want to go somewhere.  I could not find one housekeeper who spoke English, and the hotel isn't staffed by anyone after 10pm.  That said, the Rusty Nail is nice to be close to just for the entertainment and atmosphere...but for $2K for three nights, there's better places to stay!

Little bang for buck...

Upgrades this year have been slow but I must say still the best place to stay within the Cape May area with the kiddos. The Beach Shack has been our annual go to for years when traveling with the family. I like to think someone thought of the families with little ones, when they made the pool kid friendly with 3 to 5 feet deep then  enclosed pool area. They also thought of the parents who need the rest with pool side service and soon a pool bar. This year they enclosed their picnic table porch are which is  great for privacy and keep those kids in one place. They also have great room space from rooms with bunk beds (you'll get points with the kids) to spaceous private bedroom and living space. All rooms are stylish and super clean. Ohhh and let's talk about the amazing beach service NO need to lug chairs and umbrellas. Beach service is how life should be lived. Just walk a few feet to the beach tell the beach guys your room/name and how many chairs you need they will gladly set your family up. For years they have made my family's getaway enjoyable and relaxing.

Tip: If you have children under 5 or multiple children ask for the first floor there are no elevators yet! This makes a huge difference when you have small kiddos or lugging a bunch of stuff while also watching that the kids dont take a tumble down the steps...Thank me later). 

Staff is extremely helpful and kind. We are excited for all the upgrades but would call to see when they will be done. We were there while under construction thou it was not noisy and the contractors actual help inflate the kids pool floats ; ) I know it matters to some just call then enjoy your stay. 

Such a GREAT family friendly place

4.5 stars! Booked for a last minute stay, and we had a great time. All staff we interacted with were super nice and friendly for check in and any questions. Comes with beach tags right across the street, and the pool area was so nice. We loved the complimentary towels for the chairs! 

Only reason we wouldn’t give it 5 stars is that the bathroom set up is a little odd; the shower glass/half door was awkward to navigate as far as adjusting the water temperature - even for an able bodied person; I’d imagine it would be even harder for someone needing more accessibility. The floor would get wet too..

Overall we enjoyed our stay! It was clean, comfortable, and accessible to the beach and area shops & restaurants. I just wish it had a night light or a clock in the room :) so if you’re planning on staying here you may want to pack that! There’s a nice seating area, with the Rusty Nail restaurant and some live music each night. It can get a little loud at time, but it was never anything bothersome. We’d recommend!

Quick beach trip

If you wondered where all the chain wearing guidos from wildwood went your search is ended. Inner city pools of the Bronx complete with boom boxes blaring like uncle dominics back yard, holding beer cans while lil frankie in his mullet swims. Top it all off with prices that rival the real resorts and you get the picture. A real tenement experience.

S.Philly meets Bergen

We have stayed here for several years because we love the location, the activites tied to Congress Hall and Cape Resorts, the chairs provided on the beach and the bunk rooms are great if you have kids. The cleaning staff did a great job on the rooms. 
But, they have put in a new pool that is mostly 3 feet deep, therefore excluding adults to feeling comfortable in deeper water. Our first day someone did a bowel movement in the pool which closed it. You would think once and done? No! It happened again! The same people! Besides that parents were allowing their children to pull their pants down and pee in the pool.  At one point a grandparent just turned the kid around to pee on the sidewalk and beach chair. For the amount of money you spend this shouldn't be happening. They should have a pool attendant or a lifeguard there to enforce the rules because it was a free for all.  Prior to the Pandemic there was a wait staff that served food and drinks, this is gone. On Monday there was a towel attendant and then none the rest of the week. Some of this could be avoided if there was an accessible bathroom near the pool. Even on the days you come in with check in at 4 pm there is nowhere to use the bathroom or change to swim. You must go to the restaurant and use theirs. 
Another serious problem is the lack of elevator. My parents who are 75 were put on the 3rd floor.  Also why a pool bath would be optimal, the walk up. My mom injured her back carrying up the suitcase this far. On top of that they were put next to unaccompanied teens that were loud every night. There was no one to complain to because the lobby closes at 7 pm. 
This is a big trip for us, we save and look forward to it all year. We cannot believe what we experienced and hope that Cape Resorts makes some major changes at The Beach Shack.

Very disappointed, will not return

We enjoyed our stay at the Beach Shack.  The location is directly across the street from the beach.  It was an easy walk with a 2 and 4 year old.  The friendly staff will set up chairs, lounge chairs, umbrellas and provide towels.  There is also food service.  The pool was heated and had drink, food, and towel service.  We spent much time at both.  The Rusty Nail located on the property was convenient for breakfast, lunch or dinner if we didn’t feel like going further.  Although there are plenty choices within walking distance.  We enjoyed the live music.  The housekeeping staff was efficient, each day we returned to a clean room with fresh towels.  All of the staff we encountered were helpful, welcoming, and friendly.   We feel like we found a hidden gem and can’t wait to return!

Great for families

We really enjoyed our stay here!  The room was fresh, clean and modern.  We stayed in the Bunk Shack.  The Bunk beds were such a cute touch and offered much more privacy than a typical 2 bed motel room.  We were traveling with our dog, my teenage son and his friend so the space was a little tight for us, but would be perfect for a family with two young  kids.  The beds were really comfortable and we loved the decor.  The staff was very attentive and we loved the beach service- the guys on the beach who set up the umbrellas and chairs were awesome!  It was so nice not having to lug our own chairs and umbrella!!  We booked the Paws Up Package and I loved the doggie amenities.  We ate at the Rusty Nail and it was really good and so convenient.   My dog loved her doggie meal!  My only complaint really is that I wish we could have had a room with a view, although I understand that dog friendly rooms are typically on the first floor, so I don't fault the hotel at all.  I am disappointed to learn that the hotel closes after Labor Day.  I would love to come back sometime in September!

Nice, clean, stylish beach hotel.  We loved the vibe and our dog loved the Paws Up Package!

We booked our room(s) last year & they were supposed to be next to each other.  When we checked in we were on separate floors. Also check in/check out was difficult because we had a gift card. (?)  The housekeeping was outstanding, & we loved the larger pool & deck area!

Enjoyed Our Stay

Why are your room rates so high in season and off season?! It's not like you're a high end resort. It's nice to have such a good view of the beach and ocean and be close to local shops and restaurants. However, $600+ for a night's stay in season? That is robbery and absolutely insane. It's a motel, with a bar in the front. What gives?!
