Great place to experience Kona area. Family loved it. Rustic and not your hotel like experience. If you need AC and don't like a camping like experience it's not for you. Great hospitality and breakfast. Views couldn't be beat. Close to beautiful snorkeling area.

Great place!

Barbara took such great care of me as soon as we talked till the the last minutes I was able to spend on her beautiful land. This was truly a relaxing time. The view from the Illuminarium was amazing. You can see the ocean and the hillside from there while you walk the labyrinth. Oh and the biggest bamboo I’ve ever seen. Beautiful place

As peaceful and calm a place can be

We had the pleasure of staying at Dragonfly Ranch while on our first trip to Hawaii. We absolutely loved it. Barbara and her staff were very helpful and pleasant and truly cared about our stay. Our short visit refreshed our energy and souls. We are very grateful to have found such an amazing space. We read about it on their website so we knew we were staying at a luxuriously rustic B&B, they DID NOT disappoint. Our room was clean and comfortable with big open screened windows. Sleeping with the sounds of nature is so pure. The property is breathtaking and grounding. The animals that live there bring extra love to the experience. Our trip was business related. We stayed at 5-star hotels on two islands and Dragonfly Ranch during the last part of our trip. Dragonfly Ranch was our favorite. We highly recommend this B&B for anyone looking to enjoy nature at its finest with great people, lizards, spiders, dogs and cats. Your heart and soul will appreciate your stay.

Best way to recharge your soul!

We absolutely loved the Dragonfly Ranch and everyone that lives there are completely delightful and fun people who are super helpful and incredibly genuine and fun to be around.  I want to adopt these very special unique people as my chosen family.  It was super fun to stay here and I wish we could have stayed longer. 

The breakfasts were great. One day Camile (I hope I am spelling her name correctly) made the most delicious gluten free pancakes I have ever had! I found the selection of gluten free vegan cooked grains and toppings to be fabulous, nutritious and tasty. 

The orchestra  of coqui frogs at night led to amazing dreams. There are ear plugs for light sleepers but I prefer listening to the natural surroundings. There is no glass on the windows, and this is not a problem at all as it is very comfortable at night. There are huge windows with screens that keep insects from flying in. 

The room we stayed in (Lomi lomi suite) was perfect for our needs and was cheerfully decorated and had a marvelous bathtub-shower from the standing position we could see the coast over the magnificent trees. 
We looked past any cobwebs or ants that are next to impossible to keep out if there is anything sweet in the room. 

There is a large very cool, tiled community kitchen shared with one or two other units and it doubles as a cool place to hang out with very interesting people as they/you prepare food plus two very sweet cats and small dogs that will visit when one is eating or making food. Do not feed them! 

I would not label the Dragonfly ranch  place a resort type of hotel or a hotel at all. Do not expect a hotel! It’s more like an amazing place to think, do yoga, dream, read, write, play chess or other games with Barbara! and Explore  organic gardens and the beautiful property.  You have a private space but one can hear others if they are speaking loudly nearby because of the lack of windows. But this is not a problem since almost everyone is quiet by 9pm.  

Please only book once you realize it’s not for people who need everything to be spotless-especially in this environment! The bedding is very comfortable and clean as is the shower/bath. But the level of cleanliness will be unacceptable to those who do not understand how difficult it is to keep a place like this super clean. It is clean where it matters IMHO. The awesome people who work at the Dragonfly Ranch work very hard to make everything awesome for your stay. 

There are various beautiful spaces separate from one’s private suite  where one can see the ocean or exercise or do the labyrinth. It is very peaceful except for the gorgeous bird songs during the day and the coqui frogs at night. 

They have an extensive collection of snorkeling equipment and fins and the best snorkeling on the island is very close!  I recommend getting up super early if you want to see wild dolphins at Two Step which is super close by. 

I highly recommend this amazing special experience to those who like unique awesome different experiences! It was a joy filled time for us and I really look forward to visiting again and keeping in touch as I feel these people that run this place are super humans! I am grateful that we took the risk of staying somewhere so very different than any other place we have travelled.

Awesome unique and special place to stay and experience. Not a traditional hotel or resort. Gorgeous views!

A lovely place to stay if you want to get away from fancy, expensive resorts!  It's truly rustic and comfortable epitomizing the laid-back Big Island style, with a sweet sense of community and family.  We only stayed two nights but will send friends and family there.  The Dolphin Room was cozy, stuck with the theme, and we didn't mind the outdoor bathroom. Not for everyone, just those looking for a special experience!  Not always able to get on the internet but that's probably a good thing!

Sweet place to be for a few days of down-time!

If you love community, nature, yoga and a relaxed vibe, dragonfly is for you.  the house sits on a hillside surrounded w beautiful trees and has views of the ocean.  we stayed in the penthouse/treehouse rooms and loved all the light and comfy beds.  Barbara and the team of volunteers were super friendly and helpful. Collin was leading yoga and sound baths when we were there — he’s a fantastic teacher and i learned a lot.  The ranch is 10 mins away from Two Step snorkeling beach, Manini Park and the Pu'uhonua O Honaunau National Historical Park.  I’ll 10/10 stay here again.

Unique Nature & Health Experience 

So good things out of the way first, the view is gorgeous. Lots of beautiful plant life and very serene. Unfortunately that's about all I can say to recommend it. All the rooms were absolutely filthy. Ants, spiders, and other bugs were everywhere, toilets and showers were barely cleaned, all soaps and cleaning products were organic and you could tell as they barely did anything. Towels and linens smelled musty. Shower water gets lukewarm at best. Breakfast was fruit, plain quinoa, toast, avocado spread, and Kona coffee. The interns who work there all seemed very nice but the owner immediately gave me scam artist vibes. Within 5 minutes of meeting her she tried to sell me a 10 day fasting juice cleanse and the interns did all the labor around the ranch. All in all, unless you are firmly committed to the type of lifestyle they live there, do not go

Unless you're the crunchiest of hippies, do not go

Located just over a mile off the main route, and clearly marked with signage, Dragonfly Ranch is by far the most unique, bed and breakfast located in Kona's Captain Cook area.  Easily park at the base of the bed and breakfast and walk up to the most beautiful overlook of the unobsured SW view of the ocean and lush tropical forest.  Smells of native flowers swirl around you and the feeling of peace and tranquility take over.  The eclectic establishment has several private spaces to stay in, some larger than others with kitchens and private living space, others closer to the main kitchen and common space overlook, perfect for single travelers and families alike.  All rooms are equipped with everything you may need including ionized water,  stored lovingly in large gallon size glass pitchers, along with organic soap and shampoo/conditioner.  This is a sacred place to unwind and reflect and there are many different spots on the property to enjoy the tranquility of Hawaii.   Read books from the guest's library, lay in the hammock and feel the soft breeze, practice yoga on the incredible rainbow deck above, walk around the grounds and check out all the amazing sculptures and gardens spread throughout; Dragonfly Ranch is just filled with love and you can see it in every way.  The owner Barbara, always creates time to get to know each guest and is welcoming and so knowledgeable about the area, flower essences and many other topics. She has lived in Hawaii for over 35 years and she has many suggestions for day trips or where to eat organic dinner and treats every guest as they are each special and important.  Well rounded and kind staff are always on-site and can accommodate your needs and also have local suggestions.   This is a very unique experience as you will find bright colors, lots of art, and peace and quiet and it is unlike any other place you will ever stay in.  It's very easy to have privacy in your own space but also easy to find a space where others congregate and share laughter and organic coffee together.   The Dragonfly Ranch is blessed with such privacy and lush gardens,  you may never want to leave!  Unplug, unwind, empty your worries away and fill your time on Big Island with happiness.  I suggest staying 3 nights at least and using Dragonfly Ranch as a space to come back to after a day's travel because it is so peaceful and lush.  An organic breakfast is included so it will fuel you up for day journeys around the area and it is wonderful to come back and sleep the night through away from the hustle and bustle of touristy spots.



Beautiful Bed and Breakfast in Magestic Captain Cook Hawaii

Words can hardly capture the magic that is Dragonfly ranch.

From the moment you arrive you feel that this place is full of soul and is infused with love. Our room, the Lomi Lomi suite, was nothing short of breathtaking. It featured a bathtub strategically positioned to offer a captivating view of the lush jungle garden. The room's open design seamlessly connected us with the surrounding nature, and the sunset views were nothing short of mesmerizing.

we only booked two nights and regretted not reserving more..! This tucked in sanctuary is the perfect place to rest your head in a “live amidst nature” setting. Surrounded by lush greenery and the sounds of nature, anyone will find á profound sense of calm. 

Barbara and her team create an atmosphere of genuine warmth and hospitality, and some of our most cherished moments were spent conversing with Barbara in the kitchen. 

She is a remarkable, kind-hearted, and free-spirited individual with 78 years of wisdom to impart, so make sure to set aside some time to connect with her during your stay. :)

This eclectic, artsy B&B has a peaceful ambiance with calming nature walks, a waterfall, a perfect sunset ocean view, and plenty of plants, birds, frogs, geckos, and dragonflies! The location is great for beach hopping, snorkeling, scenic drives, and many other adventures! The healthy breakfasts and community are lovely too.
