The problem with the rooms are there no air conditioners & the rooms had only one operable window so, there was no way to get a cross breeze into the room. Even the window in the bathroom was sealed closed & it was  like a steam sauna! I would never recommend the Forest Lodge to anyone. Shame on the owners for serving such a poor quality environment.

Miserably 🥵 Hot in Rooms!!

Good value in an expensive town. Not luxurious but adequate and clean. Bed was comfortable and there is a huge living room. Tiny bedroom but okay because door closes if someone wants to read while partner sleeps. The grounds are pretty. I don’t have the heart to give them a one star but I should. My experience was probably a one off. The fireplace wasn’t working but I could live with that. The guy who checked me in assured me there was heat. There was NOT. I’m from FL and N CA is cold. I put on the two extra blankets but had to sleep in my puffy jacket to stay warm. The guy didn’t mention breakfast until I asked and there is a property downtown where you can go for a continental breakfast. It’s a sister property so I spoke to the woman at the desk about the heat. She said she was sorry but that doesn’t make it right. She should’ve called a manager who I think should offer a discount or credit for a future stay. Maybe in Carmel a second class lodging can get away with this. In a less popular place they’d already be out of business.

Good value in an expensive town but flawed

We spent 2 nights in the 'Garden Room' of the Forest Inn this past weekend. We normally stay in their sister property the Lamplighter but that was booked out and this was the last room available at the Forest. We were pretty shocked upon entering the room, to say it was dated is a vast understatement. It also smelled pretty musty. The carpets look like they have been there for over 50 years and really grossed me out. Beds/pillows very uncomfortable and overall, it was just a terribly depressing room that was so overpriced. To say it needs updating is a big understatement. Perhaps other rooms are better but avoid this one. Right by the office and it felt like the walls were made of paper, zero insulation, you hear everything in dolby stereo. Disappointed for price paid. Will never stay at that particular location again.

Avoid the 'Garden Room'...

I made the horrible mistake of making reservations for three nights here.  I had not expectations of grandeur mind you, but basing my expectations off the phots it looked like a cozy and charming, bright room.  I was utterly devastated when I walked into the room, so much so I almost burst into tears.  It was disgusting and so bloody small. 
 The so-called Garden Room should be advertised as a closet.  Do NOT waste your time and money!  If you go by the wide angle lens they use to display this room one would be tempted to assume it was a suitable size.  NOT SO!!!! The only 'social seating area' + wet bar was the size of a small closet, two adults were tripping over each other.  The queen size room one could hardly get around the bed which was VERY uncomfortable and the twin bed area, no place to put your clothes, and the bed again was uncomfortable.  The carpeting was indoor/outdoor and worn out around the seams.  It was also very cold. The refrigerator leaked water and all they could do was give me towels to soak it up.  All in all it was THE most horrible experience in my life in respect to hotels and I have traveled the world.  Who or whatever company owes this so-called boutique (new name for old, musty and outdated) should be ashamed to promote it.

The cramped damp and TINY so called Garden Room

The Forest Lodge is an AWESOME spot! First, it's a small establishment w/ individual cottages available. ( no one above/below/ on the side of you) Each room has its own designated parking space, which I appreciated. It's nearby lots of restaurants, shops, markets & the beach is a 5 min drive away. ( beach has free parking too, and it is STUNNING! )  I had the EINSTEIN COTTAGE. Harwood floors, fireplace, fridge, microwave, separate bedroom from the living room. Shower gets HOT! I really enjoyed my stay this summer. It felt like home away from home. I highly recommend this place if you're going to Carmel. A little pricey, but totally worth it 😊 #CaliforniaVibes

A WONDERFUL, COZY SPOT IN LOVELY CARMEL!

Forest Lodge is perfectly situated, a block from downtown Carmel, but quiet with plenty of personal space. And a designated parking spot. We are staying in the Garrett Loft, which is the only upstairs unit. It is very spacious, full of light. The bed is super comfy. 

But it would not be a good choice for mobility impaired individuals, about 20 steps up. The grounds are lovely with spaces to sit out and enjoy the fresh air.

The staff couldn’t be nicer. Breakfast is delivered to your room or you can walk to the Lamplighter to eat. Cereal, bread, fruit, yogurt, hard boiled eggs. Not a full breakfast, but certainly adequate. 

If we return to Carmel again, Forest Lodge would be our first choice!

Absolutely perfect

The Einstien Cottage was quaint. But the queen sized bed is pushed in the corner. Not ideal for couples. You have to climb out of the foot of the bed to enter and exit it. Not good on the back. The staff was very nice and accomadating. The grounds are meticulously groomed. The location is great!

Einstien Cottage

After much research, I booked the Einstein Cottage but upon arrival discovered that the bedroom is about 20 yards from busy Ocean Ave (one cannot know this from their website). So, liking my quiet, I asked to be moved if possible. I was offered the "Weston House", a downstairs unit. Uh-oh, I said. Will I hear people walking over my head? "I don't know" said the young man in the office. I was tired and It was getting dark so I took it, When the upstairs guests arrived at 1 a.m. It sounded as if they were wearing wooden clogs on a wooden floor with no insulation. The noise kept me up until about 2:30. It was horrible. Now we know.) OH and I was so looking forward to a fireplace but was informed the Weston doesn't have one, fyi, despite Google maps describing this as an "Eco-Chic B&B with gas fireplaces". Hmph. Not all have. OH and they're not serving breakfast other than a cold continental. On the positive side, the staff were nice and the rooms beautiful but overall my stay was restless and disappointing. If you can snag a cottage/room that is off the main drag and has a fireplace, it would be nice, but I'd BYOBreakfast :)

Beautiful, but... (!)

We had the pleasure of staying at Forest Lodge with our family and could not have asked for a more wonderful stay in one of our most favorite places in the world, Carmel. Due to Covid, we hadn’t seen family in 2 years, so we all had our own little cabin/space and could be together safely. It was such a gift! Each room had its own special charm and we really appreciated the cleanliness. The little touches like breakfast, a fridge in each room, and even water were so helpful- especially when traveling with kids! The staff was also so sweet and accommodating to my questions (thanks Melyssa!).  Everything was lovely and cozy- it really did make us all feel at home. Thank you for that! We look forward to returning next year- if not sooner:)

The perfect getaway for our family

Located right at the top of Ocean Avenue, this is a perfect spot for your trip to Carmel. Park the car and forget about it (each room has a designated parking spot which is not the case for every lodging establishment). Garrett Loft is the only second floor accommodation. Being 6'2" I was a bit apprehensive based on the how the photos portrayed the sloped ceiling but the room is very spacious and the the peak of the ceiling is probably 12'. Twin bed in alcove is basically only accessible by crawling on your hands and knees ... unless you are a small child. In reading other reviews, some people mention the traffic. This is located at the intersection but it seems maybe the Ocean Ave room hears it the most.
