We stayed one night in the Rainbow Inn.  The outward appearance was such that we were tempted to drive on to Santa Rosa, but decided that we were too tired.  The room we were assigned was spotless; the beds were a bit lumpy and pretty soft.  The real problem with the room and the motel was the passage, most of the night, of trains.  I think we counted 5 and there may have been more.  No way to block out that rumbling sound.  The lights from the highways kept the room pretty light; the blinds did nothing to block those lights; needed curtains.  And, finally, there was the A/C.  Noisy is the only way to describe that unit.  The room did not come with breakfast.

Nice quarters in a tiny town

The building is old and there was definitely some wear and tear but the bathroom looked recently remodeled. The room was spacious and had a table and chairs. There is a mini fridge and microwave in the room. Overall great value for the price. The Four Winds Restaurant next door is fantastic, increasing the value of the hotel because am excellent dinner is across the parking lot

Good value for older property

The premises are well maintained inside and out.  The staff is courteous and helpful. My room was exceptionally clean. They even used Green products in the bathroom to be environmentally conscious.  Great place. Give it a try. 

Best deal for the money...!

We were not sure this was a place we wanted to stay at  but too tired to keep driving.  The room was large clean well equipped.  Parking right in front.  I would recommend this hotel its not fancy but sure a nice surprise.

Nice suprise.

Upon arrival, sign on the door to go across the street and check in at other hotel.  Should have been my first clue.  Quite a few vehicles at that motel, none at Rainbow.  The guy in the office was friendly.
The room itself was passable for just a place to sleep.  The bathroom was in dire need of updating.  Overall, I don't think I will plan a trip with a stop-over in Carrizozo.

Won't do that again

We were in Carrizozo two nights to celebrate the opening exhibit for the New Mexico Magazine photo contest at the Tularosa Basin Gallery of Photography. The owner of the gallery suggested we try the Rainbow Inn, in part because we were traveling with our pups, which they accept for a small additional fee. To be truthful, there isn't a big selection of places to stay in Carrizozo so we figured we would have to put up with whatever we found.

Thus we were pleasantly surprised by the comfort, cleanliness, and nice amenities of the room, at a very affordable rate. We asked for a quiet room and got it, plus found the beds to be good, with well-made linens, and a new carpet on the floor.

Everything is within walking distance in 'Zozo, and it is an endearing town, with some decent cafes and restaurants, and best of all, friendly people who love their little town.

Surprising sweet and clean

After 450 miles, we were ready for a decent room for the night.  The host (sorry, I do not know her name) was so very friendly and gregarious, and she appeared to care about us.  She runs the Rainbow Inn and the Carrizozo Inn across the street.  We asked to see the room first and she was most willing.  (The room diagonally across the intersection at the Four Winds had a less than pleasant odor.) The Rainbow room was more than adequate, large enough, satisfactory bathroom, WiFi, some TV stations, convenient parking and a restaurant within a very short walk.  The Inn sits at a fairly busy intersection and there is a convenience store also nearby.  For $57, who could decline?  The only problem was that the AC was very, very noisy.  My wife turned it off in order to sleep but I awoke during the night and thought we really needed some cool air.  The restaurant was really okay, food was plentiful and tasty.  Just not very busy the evening we were there - see photo.
