This was our first bed and breakfast experience and it was lovely. We stayed in room 1. It was very clean, very homey, perfect for our weekend trip. Breakfast is one menu item every day, for us it was eggs benedict one morning and blueberry pancakes the next. The staff was very kind and helpful and the food was delicious. I would absolutely come back again and I would recommend this to everyone!

Weekend trip to the dunes

This was our first B& B  - we so enjoyed staying at Sylvan Inn Bed & Breakfast - we had a king bed - large room, tastefully decorated. The breakfasts were delicious, 
Our room was on the top floor & there is no elevator - so if you have issues with steps ask for a lower floor room . 

Great place to stay

Very simple … chill … and comfy … just exactly how we like it ! The inn is spotless and the innkeepers are so pleasant …. Just perfect !!! Breakfast is homemade and they were so kind as to deliver it right to our room !

I booked room #2 for a quick one-night getaway with my husband. I did very little research as this was the only opening I could find in the area for Saturday night on such short notice. But we were so happy with everything about the stay!

Communication (via email and text) was fabulous, contactless check-in was super easy, the room was great (skylight was a neat touch), and breakfast (classic eggs, bacon, toast, and fruit) was yummy! Loved the local tea selection too. The location is right on the main drag and walkable to any attractions in town. 

10/10 recommend for a relaxing and fuss-free stay. Wish we had more time to enjoy. Only recommendation is that we would have loved a fire pit :)

Great, no-hassle experience!

We stayed a couple nights in room #6. It was at the top “attic” room. It was perfect! It had plenty of room, private, our own bathroom, own air conditioner and deck. Everything was super clean, wonderful host and staff, delicious breakfast daily and great location to everything. I read all the positive, wonderful reviews and they were right on. I would definitely stay here again.

A perfect stay

I had no frame of reference for bed and breakfast inns, so I didn’t know what to expect and I’m very analytical in planning getaways with my fiancé.   In trying to keep our drive from home at 2-3 hours, I found comparable places to stay within proximity to wineries had permanently closed after the inability to rebound from Covid-related financial struggles.  So we made the 7-hour trek to the Sylvan Inn after reading the reviews and researching the area.
Unfortunately, between making our reservation for a long weekend and our actual stay, snow was forecasted for the area. By the time we arrived within 45 miles, it was an actual snowstorm.  But, that’s Michigan for you. Locals are accustomed to the harsh winters and we prepared by bringing appropriate clothing but our plans of driving 20-30 minutes away to award-winning wineries were thwarted.
That snowstorm really turned our getaway into a more stressful drive.  But, the owners of the Sylvan Inn were kind, the accommodations were perfectly in line with what I read about BnB, and what others have said about the charm of BnB’s.  The room we stayed in #6, Treetop suite, was very nice and comfortable.  There was ample space, lighting, ceiling fan, and the view from the balcony would be amazing during the regular season in the cute town. 
We were also walking distance to three wineries in town, just down the street which saved the trip from being a total wash.
Breakfast was tasty and just enough to not be too filling.  I wasn’t aware we could make requests so I would’ve put some thought into what I really wanted.  One of the owners prepared breakfast each morning we were there and asked if what he was going to serve okay.  We don’t like to make a fuss or create additional work for people who are trying to make us comfortable so we just went with the flow.  The owners were kind and gave us the information on the three wineries with their own personal review of them.  It was extremely helpful and appreciated. We were there during their off-season so it was very quiet at the inn.  The ice machine was not working and there was only a quarter roll left of the single existing roll of bath tissue was but we sent them a text and in less than 10 minutes, they brought tissue and some ice from their home. 
We enjoyed our stay at the Sylvan Inn.  We would definitely return during the warmer months of the year!

Perfect Inn for a getaway

Stayed here in August 2022. Wonderful BnB. Very quaint and peaceful. Had a full house the night we stayed but it was very quiet. Breakfast was great with good portions. Within walking distance of beach, restaurants, and shops. Highly recommended.

Great stay at the Sylvan

We stayed at the Inn for 2 nights as part of a group cycling trip. Our room on the first floor was clean and comfortable and although we were next to the dining room it was generally quiet, except for squeaky floors upstairs. The porch was a perfect place to eat breakfast and relax at the end of the day. Great location for walking to restaurants, shops, and the beach.  Breakfast was tasty, although portions were a bit small.  A nice alternative to chain hotels.

This BNB is in a good location in a very small town.  This place has quick access to Sleeping Bear Dunes, which was our main purpose for visiting. It is easy to find with adequate parking and a nice front porch. We were in room 15, upstairs (no elevator in these old homes) with a shared bathroom. There are 4 rooms upstairs and 2 bathrooms; it was really not a problem at all, and each room has a sink. It is decorated in typical BNB type decor. It was generally clean. Beds were old; soft. Weather was good, so we were comfy. There are floor unit type portable AC's in each room. The room lacked adequate outlets. Another guest upstairs was playing something very loudly, but it did quiet down by about 10pm. Wifi was good.  Everything is done via call or text with the owners. They were nice on the phone, but 100% absent during our stay, which I did not like...detracts from the the BNB experience. In the morning, a  cook offered us a choice of pancakes or french toast stating they were planning eggs for tomorrow but not today. The meal came with fruit, juice and coffee or tea. The coffee was horrid...as light as tea. The food was pretty good. We really enjoyed chatting with the other guests over breakfast. FYI, no Covid precautions were required or utilized. This was our highest priced room, in 11 days on the road. It was just fine for 1 night, but did not blow us away and did not live up to the price point.

Pros and Cons

Very nice bad and breakfast. The couple who own it are attentive to every need.
I had requests for heat, a warm blanket, tech support, and even the offer of super glue to repair an earring. 
It is a lovely, quiet and relaxing establishment.
I hope to return.
