$$$FRAUDULENT CHARGE$$$
I had to file a report with this hotel because they took the amount of the deposit out of my account instead of placing it on hold like all other hotels do because it's not a purchase and I didn't agree to the charge I agreed to the deposit. But they took it out 2 times and after checkout they showed me that they put the amount back into my account but only showing 1 of them so it looked as if they followed through with the agreement.  After getting home from my trip ans looking further into the transaction they still had some if my money.  So I filled charges and had turned all this into my bank because it's stealing money from people and it should never come out of your bank it is a hold not a purchase deposit money is not purchase money. The owners are doing this illegally so clearly look at your bank statement and u would highly suggest just not staying here to begin with because if there doing this at the door as you walk in what else are they guilty of beyond that door. As for the other ratings on hotel the place is nasty with employees that have bad attitudes and management that could care less. As a business traveler all over I would not recommend this place to anyone. This hotel is turning customers onto victims so beware.

FRAUDULENT DEPOSIT MONEY IS JUST THAT A DEPOSIT AND IT SHOULD NEVER BE TAKEN AND POSTED AS A CHARGE IN YOUR ACCOUNT

First and foremost, the staff I interacted with were beyond helpful and kind. I thought they did the absolute best with what they had. That being said, the hotel desperately needs a remodel. The wall and floor in my room were separating, pipes showing, and just overall wear were blatant. The room worked for me as I was only there to sleep but I would not consider it again, especially if I had coworkers joining me on the next trip.

Good Staff-Very Bad Property

My wife and I had stayed there because of an advertisement on the billboard (hot tub rooms) Upon arrival the parking lot had trash throughout as if it hadn't been cleaned in a while, the garbage/cigarettes can was over full, we checked in around 1pm. The staff was friendly and checked us in quickly.  Our room was ok, looked clean but smelled odd. Laminate flooring was cold and not pleasant for a hotel. The bed was a king which seemed sunk in in the middle section, almost felt it was old. My wife and I came back after a night of sightseeing and decided to try the hot tub, which actually was a jacuzzi tub by the way which sat in the bed area. The tub filled and we turned on the jets which were very noisy and didn't seem to move any water after about 3-4 minutes the jets began to barely work which stayed that way for the remainder of the tub soak. We finally layed down to sleep and as I guessed the bed sank in the middle leaving us both in the center of the bed, I didn't mind it until the morning and awoke with a back ache. Morning came and I was hungry, breakfast of any kind was NOT offered, covid or not there is wrapped products that can be served especially when breakfast is advertised with the stay. We decided it was time to head home around 10am. As my wife was getting ready I sat at the desk and something caught my attention out of the corner of my eye, it was a dang roach. I freaked out and immediately told my wife. We shook every bit of our clothes out before packing them back in our bags and immediately left the hotel. I went to check out standing at the counter for over 5 minutes not seeing anyone, I was upset and felt discussing and decided just to leave asap. We got home and again checked all of our belongings of roaches, thankfully we didn't bring any home, hopefully. I D O NOT recommend staying here especially the price they ask for the room at $123 then charging a $55 charge for damage fee which were still waiting for that to be put back in our account, it's been 2 days. Very dissatisfied.

Unpleasant stay

My family stayed here one night on our way home. It was ok but definitely not the best. Area seemed fine. You can tell they are renovating. Floors were laminate but dirty. My feet ended up black which sucked bc we have a baby that wants to crawl & be mobile. The beds were comfortable but the blankets on top had cigarette burns in them. The room had a very odd smells. Not even sure what the smell was. Breakfast was anything great so we got McDonald’s which was next door. I probably wouldn’t choose to stay there again if I had a choice. 

Ok but would prefer elsewhere 

We stayed here 1 night. For the price, we thought we got our money’s worth. The room was clean, the continental breakfast was average and the area seemed safe. There is a McDonalds right next door. There was $20 charge to bring a cat into the room. The cat didn’t have any money, so I ended up paying her share. We were most pleased with the couple working the front desk. They were friendly and helpful. When they noticed we had 3 adults, they gave us some extra towels at check in. When I mentioned my 80 year old mother was with us, he switched our room from the second floor to the first so she wouldn’t have to take the stairs. It may have been a small gesture, but it meant a lot to us. 

Super Friendly 

After being an occasional guest over the years, I started staying more frequently a year or so ago. The front desk people were helpful and friendly, and honored any special requests I put in the reservation, such as preferred floor, acceptable distance from smoking rooms, etc. On my most recent arrival, I learned that there was new ownership and a sign on the counter advised that the property now charges a 3% service charge if you pay using a credit or debit card (no forewarning when reserving on Choice Hotels' website). I was advised at checkout that this is "common practice" at "many places," and was instated by the new owner. (I had been told earlier that it was because they had new credit card machines and that Choice Hotels had required the surcharge, which I highly doubt.) This has not been my experience (surcharge for using a card), not in the US anyway. Unfortunately, I think that this is a sign of things to come with this property - cash, please! I did not see any of the front desk people I had come to know, and who always recognized and greeted me. Not sure I'll be back.

New ownership, 3% surcharge for paying with credit or debit card

Stayed here before moving daughter into college. Greeted by a friendly and helpful desk clerk. She checked us in quickly. Room seemed ok. Was going to put a bottled water into the fridge but it was either not working or not turned on. The AC unit was finicky. It felt like the temp it showed was way off from actual, Constantly had to adjust it. The room, well, seemed clean but comforter had cigarette burn, The towel rod was coming lose from the wall, The hairdryer mount was laying on the coounter next6 to the sink, and the shower curtain had a little mold at the bottom.Breakfast was ok, standard hotel stuff. Rate was very good, but next time, we will try some place else.

Great Price, Facilities mixed opinion

I enjoyed my stay in the Econo Lodge in Cedar Rapids.  The staff is extremely friendly and helpful.  The rooms and lobby look to be freshly remodeled.  The room was large and well-maintained.  An excellent hotel and I would highly recommend it.
