This was the worst and most nastiest hotel I’ve ever been in. The room had no TV no linen no towels or pillows or a blanket. The room was in need of a massive renovation because it was totally nasty. From the looks of things it looks like a flophouse for meth heads.

Worse motel I ever stayed at

Oh god. I'm not a picky person but this is truly awful. When we arrived, the beds weren't made, there were no trash cans, and no soap or shampoo. The carpet was stained and dirty, the walls were poorly painted, and the bathroom door was broken. On top of that the water didn't look clean. I'd rate 0 stars if I could.

Rather sleep outside

Do not mind the negative reviews, with the new management the hotel is getting better and better by the day! I stayed 3 nights, and my room was clean, water was hot in shower, breakfast was great, tv works great, wifi is fast, definitely recommend this hotel to people going through Charles City!

Loved my stay!

We booked 2 rooms at the Hartwood Inn on arrival the receptionist advised they could not find our booking that we did on hotels.com.  She took about 30 mins to troubleshoot and advised us we could just book the rooms directly,  Once she booked the room  we went to the rooms to find that they were very dirty and were not cleaned after the last guests.  In addition, the rooms had a heavy smoke smell. I would not recommend this hotel.

Dirty and disorganized

We we’re riding our motorcycles from South Dakota back to New York and had planned on stopping somewhere in Iowa for our first night.  We ended up getting caught in a torrential downpour and stopped at the hotel because it was the first decent looking motel we ran into in Charles City.  As it turns out, had we ridden another mile or two, we would have hit some more “mainstream” hotels.

Anyways, although this place looked a bit run down, we figured we would give it a try.  We got two rooms and stayed for the night.  The rooms were obviously dated, but seemed clean.  And the bed was comfortable.  I didn’t have any trouble sleeping after riding 600 miles.  The AC worked fine and the shower was hot.  So as far as the basics go, there was no issue.  It was no frills, but I didn’t need anything fancy to crash for the night.

Not a bad place to stay if you are in the area for a night or two.  It was cheap and clean.  I wouldn’t plan any extended stays.

Coming in out of the rain

First of all, do not be concerned with the composite review score.  This facility is under new management and they have made great strides in turning this motel around.  New carpet, great mattresses. AC works fine, Sheets were terrific, good breakfast provided. No smoking rooms.  
The place was full. "No Vacancies".  This was a Tuesday night.  They must be doing something right.
My only concern was the pillows were a bit thin and the blankets were old.  My guess, upon my next visit, those issues will be resolved too.
For an older property, it was a great value.

Clean Clean Clean.  Good price

Went to my nephew wedding started at Hartwood Inn for one night the first room air conditioner didn't work was moved to another room carpet had bleached stains what looked like blood stains. Shower curtains had mode, blood stains and water pressure wasn't good. Rooms needs to be upgraded. Mattresses hard and uncomfortable. Appliances outdated.  Wouldn't stay at this Inn and doesn't recommend this Inn to anyone. 😡🤬👎👎

Nephew wedding

If you are traveling through Charles City, Iowa, Hartwood Inn is a great place to stay!! Free wifi, free breakfast, room service, friendly staff, clean rooms, A/C, fridge, microwave, etc. A quiet place along the Cedar River. Nothing fancy but perfect for my 3 day and 4 night stay! I would definitely stay again if the need arose!!
