I have always wondered what it would be like to live in one of those classic Charleston houses.   20 South Battery gave me that opportunity and more.  From the warm greeting upon arrival to the fine service you receive at breakfast and at the wine and cheese hour, one gets a glimpse of the best Charleston has to offer.

We had the most romantic getaway ever!  The comfort and luxury of the 20 South Battery Inn was the foundation to our memorable, enjoyable getaway!  The staff were the friendliest ever.  We were catered to and pampered with wine and cheese in the evening and a delicious breakfast in the morning.  We even asked for snacks to explore Charleston with and they generously obliged.  An amazing view from the 4th floor.  We felt like authentic Charlestonians.
  A must stay for a romantic getaway!  The staff loved helping with reservations as well.

The Romantic Getaway! A Genuine Delight!

Elegant, peaceful, beautifully located — great for cooling breezes from the water. I traveled alone and the kind staff couldn’t have been more accommodating.  Lovely room in carriage house with good bed, super shower, great lighting, well placed hooks, good desk and comfortable seating. I liked the continental breakfast and a little bonus was the wine and cheese hour at 17:00—perfect after a long day of touring. Most charming and truly would come back to enjoy this lovely place in this most interesting city.

Heaven on earth

My wife and I stayed here for our 10-year Anniversary in May. We come to Charleston every five years (we love the city). WHAT A GEM! We stayed in the Devereux Suite (formal wine cellar). It was such a comfortable and elegant suite, and we will stay in that exact suite when we return (not if we return, when we return. Must emphasize that!). We wished we had more time to just stay around the mansion (we only stayed 3 nights). The wine and cheese hour is simply amazing, and we highly recommend you plan on attending that the whole hour during your stay. The staff was as friendly and helpful as you could ever wish for when you visit a place like this. If I could rate this more than 5-stars, I would. This is where you want to stay if you're visiting the amazing city of Charleston!

If you love Charleston, this is a must!

We chose this because it was close to water and the pictures looked beautiful.  The gardens were pretty and hotel was quiet and private if you chose to desire privacy.  The breakfast was good, not a lot of choice but more like continental than a full breakfast.  The bed was comfortable and room was cool as it’s hot there this time of year.  The only issues were the lack of thorough cleaning of room, floors are very old therefore there can be bugs that come out at night etc.  also would be nice if the baseboards were cleaned and behind furniture.  Bathroom was clean with tile instead of the old wood floors, was pretty small though but that’s due to keeping with the style and date of home.  I did enjoy our stay but would o probably choose something a little newer or at least restored more thoroughly.
