Great location.  Walk to town and access to nearby beach.  Adam and Chris are great and provide a lot of information.   Conducive to meeting other guests on nice front porch and fire pit and afternoon complementary wine and cheese.  Had to cut our visit short because of a bicycle accident but can't wait to go back.

I stayed for one night only.  As a solo woman traveler, safety is a concern of mine. The room only had a simple push button door lock, no phone in the room either.  My room was accessed from the outside, up an outside staircase to the three rooms in a small hall.  I was immediately hit by the spray odor that cleaning people use to mask odors.  It was in the room too.  The fire escape was a ladder.  How is this safe? My feeling is the owners put  lipstick on a pig.  Paint could not hide very outdated features.  The bathroom sink was the smallest I’ve seen in years. I slept with the window open to air out the smell and didn’t use the portable A/C unit.  It wasn’t quaint as other reviews described; it is tired and needs updating .
The only plus said; the  location is wonderful and I enjoyed the quick walk to the beach.  The other houses on the street were Cape Cod lovely.  But not this one. 
I didn’t stay for breakfast so can’t comment on it. It was not worth the price, $250 for a night, which is on the lower end in Chatham.  I won’t stay there again.

Very disappointed

If you're seeking beach proximity and a walk to town, the location cannot be beat for the price.  It is an old structure, homey and beach-y, with everything you'd need for a beach visit provided:  wagons, chairs, umbrellas and towels.  A big front porch from which to enjoy "wine hour" fr 5-6 or continental breakfast.  And outdoor showers.  The service was very hop-to-it and responsive.  Big bang for buck in this otherwise outrageously expensive hamlet. Full of character and the big back yard with badminton lawn games is great for kids The one true luxurious thing about it:  paces to a gorgeous beach and a short walk to the village.

Luxury location for a bargain price

We were in town for a wedding.  The location is fantastic.  Easy walk to the beach or to town.  The live-in innkeeper was very nice.  Good wifi.  The room was clean, but very basic which was fine, because we only slept in it.  Some friendly suggestions to the owner of this quaint spot.   Lose the lobby computer desk and set up decent continental breakfast in the morning.  Granola bars and store-bought Danish is lame.  Second, the excuse of "it's an old building" is overused.  Upgrade the plumbing!  The shower was so weak, literally, it was a trickle.  



Quaint, but the old building excuse?

Just perfect. The inn is old and maintains the charm. Location is perfect. Steps from the beach and they provide everything you need. Staff is very kind and accommodating. It is not fancy and does not pretend to be. It is simple, charming, clean, and welcoming. Highly recommend. The rooms are very small and the bathrooms very very tiny. You aren’t here for the rooms your here for the peace and tranquility. It is an old inn which has been maintained beautifully. This isn’t the Hilton and I think it is delightful. It is also located away from the main area. Close enough to walk, and far enough to really slow down and enjoy you time.

Perfect tranquility

Nice location with good Chatham vibes! We based from here for 4 nights and we’re happy to find something affordable that was not near the main busy roads but rather nestled in and around beautiful homes plus across from the sea and a beach. There is a nearby path to cut across to the nice calm beach which I highly recommend visiting for an early morning secluded walk. We wished we had more time for staying here at the inn but stayed busy exploring day trips to Ptown and Nantucket. The drive to the National seashore is also easy. The inn is quaint and older but won our heart with clean rooms, comfortable beds, free wine and cheese happy hour and continental breakfast. We also truly appreciated the free use of beach chairs, beach towels and sun umbrella! We also used the chairs at a free fun Cape Cod baseball game that was in town one night. They have a nice front peaceful porch we landed on every night for pizza at the end to a busy day. These little things, walking distance to town and a beach, plus the very nice manager that lives on site are all reasons I recommend this place.

Chatham charm

Expect old world charm, wood floors, open windows, quirky layouts. Very clean and comfortable. Staff was very friendly . Loved our stay here. Very close to beach access. Small hotel where you get to know the other guests kinda place.

Classic small hotel

If you are looking for a simple establishment as a home base for your walks to the beach and into Chatham, this quaint Motor Inn will work beautifully. However, we were disappointed in the rooms. First, the walls are paper thin, so we heard every word from the TV and phone calls and conversations in the rooms beside and above us. We were kept up several nights by those with later bedtimes than us and woke up when the first guests took their showers. Our toilet tank leaked into the bowl, so we had to turn off the water to it at night to fall asleep since housekeeping was unable to fix it. We were exhausted in the morning. 

Secondly, there are several easy things that could be done for better safety around the property such as hotel locks on the doors (they had a simple twist lock), locked doors to the hallways, pavers to the back stairs, etc. Other thoughtful things, such as an email confirmation the day before with front desk hours or a note that there are no closets or hairdryers, could have set our expectations better. What was helpful were signs such as ‘don’t run the AC at the same time as the hairdryer’. Other things, like paint splattered on the bathroom art, reminded us of our low budget choice. 

The linens and room were clean. The breakfast was advertised: coffee, store bought bagels and danishes, apples. We walked in to town and brought our own breakfast back to eat on their lovely porch. Their extras — beach supplies (wagons, umbrellas, chairs) and wine/cheese/fire pit — are adequate.

As a last minute getaway, we are grateful for the central location Surfside offered. We definitely took advantage of its proximity to the beach and town. Set your expectations appropriately and this place should work out.

Perfect location but temper expectations

A last minute stay for one night; first time here. Stayed in a mini room on the 3 rd floor. Nice to view the ocean from the room window and the bathroom window. Narrow stairs and hall to the 3rd floor in a historic looking (but nicely updates) building. I like that. If you have a lot of bags (or have extra girth), the 3rd floor may not be for you. 

The beach is a short walk. Nice and relaxing the second day, but I got on the beach later in the afternoon the first day and not long after alot of nats flying around (that were pinching here and there) suddenly appeared. People started to leave. I left right away. Heard someone saying that they stayed there all week and this is the first time these bugs were there. Oh well. But the next day, late morning to early afternoon, the bugs were gone completely.  On both days (in mid-Aug) the water was too cold for me to really swim in. Like almost ice cold. The sand was mostly clear with just a little seaweed and I guess the occasion jelly fish that some people said is out there but I didn't see any as I walked in the water calf-high for a little bit a few times (did pick up a large snail in his shell - that was cool; then put it back). So, the second day on the beach was far less windy than the first. I stayed there for hours even though I didn't swim, just walked a little into the water about calf-high. (Again, it was very cold.) 

But the beach also let me catch up on some sleep that I did not get during the one night at the Surfside Motor Inn (that is what the sign says at the entrance, "Motor"). A group of either late teens or 20-somethings, from a wedding, were out drinking on the lawn at the fire pit and chairs there (ignoring the sign that says to stay quiet from 10pm to 7AM) posted in several places outside). They were out there until around 1AM or longer. Then the loud (not whispering) talking, etc, carried on inside. OMG. I tried to put on sleep sounds to distract me so I could sleep. Woken up again at 3:30AM-ish by them. Then about 45 minutes later also. 
The doors are expanded and they slam shut and can't shut them quietly even if you tried. But the office guy did say new doors are coming after this season. That is great!
The room had cute decor. Seemed clean to me. I like the optional floor fan if someone wants to use it instead of the AC unit. I used neither during my stay. 

FYI...There was no USB ports on the nightstand to charge my phone. An outlet was nearby, however, but I forgot to bring my outlet plug and a long charging cord. So, basically, either I had to use my battery pack until it died, or go sit in the car if needed. Luckily, my battery pack carried me through. 

The bathroom was very small (included a small shower - probably not good for a wider person) and I didn't mind it for a short stay. 

There was no small fridge in this mini room. However, there was a community large fridge just at the entrance leading up and convenient. I didn't need to use it so I can't comment on how it looked inside. I expect they disinfect inside and outside the handle and door often if this is the case. But it looked clean and neat from the outside. 

The porch area was comfy and cute. I sat outside a little at night and no bugs were there then. 

I may be back next year and see how the sound improvement will be after the new doors. It was an interesting experience in my lower budget, which this place topped as it is because it's located in Chatham.

A neat stay, near the beach. A few issues only. Professional and nice office man.

The Surfsde Inn provided the ideal venue for our family to gather under one roof for a long awaited family wedding . The Originally planned buyout for all 23 rooms was for the summer of 2020 and Adam stayed in contact and accommodated the change to August , 2021.  

Adam and his staff exceeded our expectations! 

Our guests were thrilled to be provided with comfortable accommodation and amenities that fit every need ranging from 2 years of age to 93 including easy , hassle free access to the best beach in Chatham  with wagons  to carry  umbrellas ,chairs, toys , coolers and ice. 
They could also walk and bike to downtown without concern of parking . The inn provided a perfect gathering spot both inside and out for complimentary breakfast as well as wine  and  cheese supplemented by Adam’s knowledgeable suggestions for entrees . 
Thank you Adam, Mark and staff for making our dreams come true . All our guests say that they would return to the Surfside and Chatham again.
 We plan to as well .
