We walked by the John L. Stam house this morning and it looked closed/under renovation. The sign out  front is gone and the website is down. Chestertown has charm, but very few places to stay within the town.

Whereas, the former premises, being kaput...

My husband and I stayed at the John L Stam House for a wedding weekend and had such a lovely stay. The home and gardens are unique, beautiful, and impeccably cared for. Marta was so accommodating, kind, and interesting and we wish we could have stayed even longer!

Unique home and gracious host

Although the entire experience of staying here was great (3 nights), there were 2 things that made our stay INCREDIBLE:

1. Marta, who mostly runs the show,  She is so friendly, helpful, and enjoys pampering her guests (she also works her tail off!) If that wasn't enough.....she is an amazing chef.  Breakfast every morning was so delicious.  I'm usually a late sleeper who doesn't eat breakfast.  But hers were so good, the food motivated me out of bed at 830 am. And she made enough for us to have seconds on most items (which I partook in). When you are staying with Marta, it feels like you are home

2. The beds and pillows were more comfortable than most of the 5 star hotels I've stayed at (which is many).  I mean, this bed was so comfortable, if it hadn't been for her delicious breakfasts, it would have been very difficult to drag myself out of it!

If you are in Chestertown, I highly recommend staying here!

We enjoyed our recent stay at this beautifully decorated b&b. Our host and hostess, Mike and Marta, made us feel comfortable and at home. The breakfasts were delicious. The location was very good. We highly recommend this b&b to anyone looking to be pampered.

Wonderful stay

We reserved a two day stay for my in-laws who wanted to visit during Harry Potter Weekend, and we stayed locally, but my daughter napped there because it was more convenient, and we visited quite a bit!  First of all, the house is a historical gem, beautifully restored and appointed!  My parents stayed in the room with a private bathroom in the tower of the house, and the bath situated up a tiny staircase in the tower of the house and a view of the town, with light streaming in from all sides, could not be more romantic or picturesque!  The hosts are just the nicest people imaginable, and really went out of their way to make not just my parents, but also us, feel comfortable and welcome.  The gardens are a must-see, and the hospitality is unrivaled!!!!  Please stay here!  You will be so happy, and you will be supporting what is basically a living piece of history!  <3  I cannot recommend it enough!

This is hands- down the best experience I've ever had at a bed and breakfast!

The house is a beautiful Victorian home with period furniture, wonderful gardens, and warm and welcoming owners. The turret bathroom provides a wonderful view of the surrounding area and a unique place for an antique tub with shower. The waterfall in the garden provides a place to contemplate and relax.

It is a short walk to High street and the center of the town.

Marta greeted us with a tour of the house and property, including the lovely garden, and pressed us to accept special pampering. She brought coffee to our lovely room in the morning and prepared special breakfast entrees that set us up for the day. We felt like treasured guests.

John L Stam House is beautifully decorated, wonderfully comfortable, and historically interesting home on a lovely property.  Marta and Mike are gracious, and full of tips and information.  Plan for a relaxing and delicious breakfast when you awake.  You will be pampered at every turn!

Fantastic Inn

My wife and I stayed at the John L Stam House in Chestertown, MD during the Dickens of a Christmas weekend. Marta and Mike were our hosts and were absolutely delightful. Marta is an amazing cook and if you’re lucky, you might be able to try some of Mike’s home brew. The house itself was super comfortable and one can immediately tell how much passion and attention to detail Marta and Mike put into it over many years. It felt like we took a step back in time, with antique furniture every where you looked, often with its own unique story. The location of the house is also perfect, with all of the shops and restaurants only a short walk away. We really loved Chestertown and can’t wait to go back. We just have to check the availability calendar for the Stam House to make our plans. ;)



Magical Evening

This charming, historic B&B was for my husband and I our best B&B stay.  Marta is a pampering and gracious host , who has a lovely way of making all the guests feel relaxed and cared for. The breakfasts were delicious, and the evening conversations over a glass of sherry made for a special weekend. Our room was lovely and comfortable, and her flexibility in breakfast times allowed for either lingering over conversations or starting your day on your schedule. Marta has a gift  for gracious pampering, and her guests leave having had a unique experience.
