,,,We had a great stay and lots of fun at Snug Harbor. Cottages are super clean , well maintained and have everything we needed during our stay. Perfect location like no other on the island. Beautiful view from our cottage. We could see the ponies straight from our deck the first morning we woke up❣️ So relaxing and peaceful. That was a wonderful  and unforgettable experience!  We will most definitely be back🩵

Perfect for the weekend getaway and not only that; there is so much to do there like kayaking, hiking bicycling, fishing -you name it they have it ! The Island has so much to offer :) 
The place is wonderful and the owners are the best -nice , helpful and very profesional! Excellent customer service :) 
The cottage was perfect!
The kitchen is a plus with the huge fridge that will fit all your food and drinks! The rooms are spacious and you can’t ask for more comfortable beds!  
The patio is a great place to sit with your morning coffee -really really nice! And the horses ! Loved it !! 
Definitely will be back :)


Girls trip  

We liked the cabins because of the LOCATION.  It's quiet and the view is great.  There was a sunset Cruise right from the marina dock, and we loved it.  We saw the ponies up close and some dolphins playing.  The cabins were dated but clean, and had a kitchen that we could use to make soup and sandwiches.  No microwave and the AC had a bit of trouble cooling the room, but the breeze cooled the cabin after sunset.   

With my teens, I might have stayed on the other side of Chincoteague, where you can walk for food and night life - but that side is noisier and busier.  

I had a slight feeling of sketchiness from the personnel, like maybe they weren't being honest - it reminded me of the Caribbean, where every answer was calculated to make them look the best or get a tip.  But overall I still give it a 4 star review.

Perfect Location for Couples

This place is magical. I'd never been to Chincoteague and wanted to go there for our wedding anniversary. The moment I pulled into the parking lot, I was overcome by its location, atmosphere, and the AMAZING owners. They were so welcoming that we felt like part of their family. The serenity and vibe are unbelievable, and the place is very well kept. It was truly a soul cleansing experience. Very relaxing, and I LOVED hearing Bob Marley playing as I sat out on the dock.

They also have kayak rentals, eco tours, boat rentals, and even a water taxi that takes you to a private beach. We did their sunset cruise, which was phenomenal and is a MUST. The owner, John, told us amazing stories about growing up in the area and the history. It is an experience I will NEVER FORGET.

If you're looking to replenish your soul and chill, you need to stay here. Thank you, John and Basha, for our wonderful weekend. You certainly made our anniversary very special, and we will be back VERY SOON!!!

The PERFECT anniversary getaway 

This place is excellent for folks who want an escape from the craziness of city life and yearn for a peaceful relaxing vacation away from it all. It's truly all about what you are looking for. Is it the Ritz-New York? Well, no. But in many ways, it is much, much better. S/H provides a quiet respite, on a quiet road, on the water, with ample fishing and boating, a place to grill, and have your children run around and play. You can crab... you can see bald eagles and the ponies across the channel... and enjoy an incredible sunrise daily.  Everything in town is quite literally 5-8 minutes away; Assateague Beach (which is a full-fledged, white sandy beach with lifeguards) is 10 minutes away.  The island is 25 mph throughout and so quaint! But back to S/H.  Basia and John are the consummate and personable hosts, along with Ms. Maria, who is your friendly housekeeper. All of them are everywhere and nowhere at the same time. They are non-intrusive, but ready and waiting to take care of whatever you might need upon request.  The cottages are 1 and 2 BR. We had a 2BR (1200 sq ft) that was spotless upon our arrival. The pictures are the best description of the cottage. But I will highlight the breakfast nook with windows facing the water and the porch directly outside from the nook with two sturdy adironack chairs.. So beautiful!  I also note the window AC cooled the cottage well, even in the warmest of temperatures.

We rented a canoe and kayak for the week. Having them available at our disposal, to put in whenever we wanted was such a delight. No check-in and check-out of the watercraft -- just use them.  You will get a little messy at S/H -- you have to put in and take out your watercraft. Your feet will get wet! You will have to bait your own hooks and catch and clean your own fish, too.  You will likely track some sand into your cottage which you will actually have to sweep up yourself. I laugh at the reviews who can't believe they actually had to lift a finger themselves here at some point. As I said, it is not the Ritz. I've stayed at a number of them as well. But as a fan of My Cousin Vinny, I will leave you with this.... what Snug Harbor provides is "every bit as sophisticated a system of hospitality and graciousness" as they provide at the Ritz - but with instant water access, a beautiful view, superb craftsmanship, on-site owners/hosts with southern hospitality and charm! If you are looking at Chincoteague -- then look no further than Snug Harbor!  

Bliss!

We stayed at Snug Harbor for 5 nights last July during the Pony Swim week. The location was unbeatable! You could just literally get to the Swim within 5 minutes walking, we decided to join their kayak tour though which was taking  off straight from the property. It was the best thing we did. The guide took us and the group right in front of the swimming ponies, it was just once in a lifetime experience! It was maybe a little pricey but so worth it. We also did a boat tour around  the islands with Capitan John ( also takes off straight from Snug Harbor), it was fantastic! Lots of fun stories, wildlife, beautiful scenery, and all that on a beautiful, new, luxurious boat. Oh and the cottage was very comfortable and had everything we needed. Right by the water where you can see the lighthouse and boats passing by, very relaxing and low pace. The hosts were sweet and very accommodating, they helped us to arrange activities, recommended great places to eat and answered a million questions we had :)  I am writing this review wishing we were there now...but I just  booked another stay at Snug Harbor this summer:) We can't wait to come back!

The best location on the island! Especially for the Pony Swim!

Captain John and his pontoon boat tour of the channel were the best experience ever and the greatest way to see Chincotegue Island.  The ponies, sea birds, bald eagle, pelicans and tons of dolphins made this an outstanding and memorable trip!  Check it out at Snug Harbor Marina.  You will be happy you did!!!

BOAT TOUR ON ASSATEGUE CHANNEL

Stumbled on Snug Harbor on our journey home to NJ from Florida ahead of Hurricane Ian.  We make the trip frequently and try to get off the beaten track whenever possible.

 Very clean, well appointed waterfront cottages.  Comfortable beds.  Perfect spot to relax & enjoy nature.

Sadly, we could only stay one night, but we plan to return.

A Little Slice of Paradise

We thought for the price it would be a great place to stay. Think again a/c was noisy and not reliable. Room, bed and shower were tiny. Nothing included, $20 for a few sticks of wood to burn, expensive rentals for everything and expensive boat tour. No coffee or anything in the room. It’s bring your own for everything.  Check in 4 pm check out 10 am.

Birthday flop

Nestled on the shore of Chincoteague Island, Snug Harbor offers visitors a slice of paradise. Desiring to check an item off our bucket list, my friend and I ventured here to watch the pony swim.  Since we had never been to Chincoteague before, I scoured the internet to find a place to stay.  I am so thankful I stumbled across Snug Harbor.  The cottages are reminiscent of a bygone era, but were updated with modern conveniences to make our stay comfortable.  It is advertised as a hotel, but our cottage included a full-size refrigerator, stove/oven and even granite counter tops.  Not many hotels can claim that!  My friend slept in the bedroom and said the bed was comfortable.  I used the futon, which was high quality, without pulling it out to make a bed and slept peacefully each night.  It felt like a bed more than a futon. 

     Congenially the owners and staff welcomed us and made us feel immediately at home.  The observation decks, the sea-side sitting areas, the breeze gently blowing, the view of Assateague Lighthouse, ALL of it creates such a serene ambience!  There were numerous kayaks, paddle boards, etc. for renting, and while we didn’t take advantage of those opportunities, I did observe folks returning from some guided kayak tours.  They all seemed happy with their experience, and from what I witnessed, the guide was engaging, friendly and knowledgeable. 

     During our stay we did take a sunset boat ride with Captain John. He first guided us to Assateague Island to get up close to the wild ponies. His stories were entertaining and informative. He created a warm and friendly atmosphere while welcoming our many questions. He then navigated to the other side of the island where we viewed the sunset.  It was breathtaking!  Chincoteague has some of the most gorgeous sunsets!

     After exploring the island all week, I am thankful that we landed at Snug Harbor.  There isn’t another place on the island that boasts a waterfront beach area for viewing across the Assateague Channel to Assateague Island and Lighthouse.  Most other waterfront properties face the Chincoteague Channel which is the opposite side of the island. And the other waterfront properties on the Assateague Channel don’t have the cottage feel and outdoor areas for relaxing that Snug Harbor possesses.  When I return to Chincoteague (and I will return!), we will definitely make Snug Harbor our home for the duration of our stay!
